And War Crimes for All....

They did not repudiate the Geneva Conventions which, as ratified treaties, remain the the law by which we are bound in our dealings with citizens of foreign countries. Geo. Bush et al will have an extremely hard time traveling freely without risking arrest in most civilized countries. posted 06/18/2008 at 10:25:07

McCain's Secret, Questionable Record

Children born in foreign to U.S. citizens living abroad are "natural born" citizens. I was born in Cuba in the early '50's but since my mother was a U.S. citizen I am considered a "natural born" citizen and have papers from the State Department to prove it. How about you? posted 06/17/2008 at 10:57:50

When McCain Drops Out

Article 2, Section, Paragraph 5 of the Constitution:

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

Jindal is 37 therefore, assuming the proper citizenship status, eligible. posted 06/16/2008 at 15:14:50

Sometimes Honor Is Wrong -- The Problem With John McCain

Both WWI and WWII were fought by Democratic "lefty" administrations. As was most of the Korean War. The first two ended in less than four years and are generally considered high points of U.S. influence on world affairs. The wars left to Republican administrations never seem to end, or at least to end well.

Viet Nam was, after January 1968, strictly a war against the Army of North Viet Nam for control of the south. The vast majority of troops were out by 1973 and the South Vietnamese army was unable to hold the country even with U.S. air support and weapons. It was a contest between two clearly defined governmental ideas with conventional armies.

Iraq is far more complicated and far less "winnable" in any reasonable sense of the word. Who will ultimately surrender to whom in Iraq? The nationalistic Al-Sadr whom we oppose or the pro-Iranian "government " who we support? The Sunni's in Al-Anbar who welcomed the foreign Al Qaeda fighters and who can't participate in the government because they were Baathists?

What exactly does American conventional military force offer to the resolution of this situation? John McCain's answer is that we must win. How subtle and insightful. There is no honor involved here just more sacrifice and waste. posted 04/02/2008 at 15:02:54

Hillary Clinton Deluged With Calls For Her Withdrawal

OK let me get this straight if you have to win the big states to win the general election and John McCain has already won the big states by very large margins in the Republican primary then he going to win in the general election too. So BOTH Hillary and McCain are going to be president, right? posted 03/30/2008 at 23:23:58

AP: Why Wasn't The Truth Good Enough For Hillary?

Unfortunately he wasn't closed out on Super Tuesday and the Clinton campaign turned to the worst of recent general election tactics.Rather than building a coherent front against Republican abuses and failures they forced an unwarranted polarization within the party. Their current meme of praise for McCain makes it apparent that they are no longer members of the party, but merely use it to maintain their station among the political elite.

This needs to end so it can be forgotten in the depression of a summer of rising prices and foregone vacations that should bring eight years of Republican malfeasance into very sharp focus.

The superdelegates need to weigh in now. Howard Dean where are you? posted 03/26/2008 at 10:43:24

The Tide Is Turning

Perhaps you should take some time and listen to the 1500 sermons that Rev. Wright has given over the years since finished his service in the U.S. Marine Corps instead if thirty seconds snipped out of one without context. Just a suggestion. posted 03/27/2008 at 13:51:57
Could it be that you are heavily invested in your current point of view and will be until it becomes moot? At that point will you still be a Democrat or will you vote to continue the current stalemate by voting for a man who has promised to continue the war and has stated that he's not really up to speed on tricky economic issues? You can make the polls wrong. Support your candidate but take a hard look at the options if she doesn't prevail. posted 03/27/2008 at 13:48:05

Reid: "Things Are Being Done" To End Dem Primary Before Convention

Are they Democrats or not? If they get to vote in choosing the Democratic Party nominee you would think they would support the winner in the general. Other wise we should just have two elections, put all the candidates of all the parties in one primary the top three get to run in the general election two months later. If no one gets a plurality then the top two compete in a runoff one week later. Whole thing lasts six months tops.

We could even do a ranking system so that a guy who is nobody's first choice but everybody's second choice might actually win. In any event I'm tired of fighting with my neighbors over the acceptability of people neither of us really know. It's only fun for so long and that period has passed. posted 03/26/2008 at 11:04:39

Have you read transcripts of Rev. Wright's 1500 sermons over the last 30 years? Have you attended his church and have first hand knowledge of what said on a weekly basis? Have you heard the multiple anecdotes from visitors to his church, both black and white, who never heard anything hateful from his pulpit? posted 03/24/2008 at 15:26:54
Oh Please! Self righteousness is so intensely annoying. Remember Hitler was ELECTED chancellor long before the final solution was put in motion. And 85% of the Americans who fought them had to be drafted. Not having yet jumped off a building over any issue I will go out a limb and state unequivocally that you're blowing smoke. posted 03/24/2008 at 15:16:37

Catholic-Bashing

The root of atheism is, in fact, -theism. I reiterate my point most of the self proclaimed atheists I know talk about God,at least for public consumption, more than the vast majority of those that are nominal believers. One would think that there wouldn't be much to say about something that didn't exist. Most educational systems don't give people the tools to sort through the flood of information thrown at us daily. A large number of people still believe that Iraq was involved in 9/11 despite everyone including Geo. Bush stating that they weren't. This is not the rational capability required to overcome a lifetime of indoctrination nor come to grips with a nuanced idea of ethics, morals and existence. Hence people killing Commies for Christ. Peace from one indoctrinated Catholic to another. Rejoice He is Risen! Happy Easter. posted 03/23/2008 at 00:12:48
I was right with you up to . . ."Religion is after all entirely a choice, unlike race or sexuality or gender."
Its only a choice if you don't grow up in one. Most people either embrace or reject the religion of their parents and extended family, but their understanding of religious ideas arises in that religion. I personally don't understand the concept of atheism since it is a negative variant of theism, without which it wouldn't exist. I also find it odd that atheist spend a lot more time talking about God than most supposed believers I know. My point here is that most people acquire their beliefs in the same way they learn which side of the plate the fork goes on, because they were told so. posted 03/22/2008 at 18:47:13
