I used to be a health care finance workaholic nut. I quit my job as a hospital CFO when my teen son Danny relapsed with leukemia in 2000. That is when I took up painting. I am learning how to be an artist and slow down my life.
This is a pretty big life change, accounting to art. There is also a huge ego adjustment in going from the affirmation of the corporate workplace to a self-imposed structure at home. Don't get me wrong--I really like my dress code! But I have to set my own goals as well as pat myself on the back from time to time. When I get too bogged down in my fears and insecurities, I try to reflect on lessons I learned from Danny and other children who died from cancer. One of them is to live in the present moment. And that is SO much of what art is all about.
You can meet Danny at dannyklancher.com or see my art at BarbaraReid.org. Both compliments of my immensely talented computer-guru son, Stephen Klancher.
I am a Democrat campaigning for Barack Obama. Favorite blogger: Andrew Sullivan. I listen to NPR every day. I cope with what is going on in the world by religiously watching the Daily Show, Stephen Colbert and Real Time. Humor helps! I can't wait until Bush is history. A sad history, I know.
