I knew the right had sunk it's tendrels into virtually every aspect of the media (including NPR), but somehow I thought the NYT was immune from this garbage. Too bad. Apparently all one's need to get an op-ed piece these days is an opinion and a title.

Aaaahhhh, I love a good slogan. When I hear John McCain speak I feel inflamed, I tell you, inflamed. It reminds me of what a "maverick" he is, and how he will be so much better than Obama because he's fought in a war and knows how to give us straight talk.

Funny how the whole "war hero" thing only applies to the small amount of republicans who actually served in the military. I was watching McCain being interviewed on Fox, and even with having beach balls lobbed at him by Sean Hannity, McCain was still bumbling and stumbling, demontrating an almost astounding inability to think on his feet. Hannity even had to bail him out couple of times with leading questions.

I would like to propose we lay the whole "maverick" label to rest. It seems to me this is used by way of explaining that McCain is occasionally willing to think for himself and not tow the party line every hundreth vote or so. Calling McCain a maverick at this point is old and vaccuous, and gives this completely out-of-touch poltician a free pass from having to prove himself. There's only one way he can win this election--So will somebody please investigate those &%#$&%$^*^ voting machines?!!! Nacny? Harry? Anybody? posted 05/12/2008 at 15:32:38

Well put, my friend. They did indeed volunteer, because lord knows if there were actually a draft we would have been out of Iraq at least 3 years ago and you all would have either lost your re-election or been impeached. It's why the anti-war movement is so...quiet. We have all these young kids in college that don't ever have to think about the war (if they so choose) because their number will never pop-up to force them to ship out. In some ways, this war is a class war. Wealthy, white men (by-and-large), very few of whom who ever served a day of military time in their lives, using minorities, the poor, the undereducated, the gullible, as fodder for thier dark intentions. Oh go away already, James. What Richardson's endorsement really means is that he has good sense. I really think the Clinton camp has lost it. They're even choosing the republican (who is dead-set on continuing Bush policies) over their opponent. I've never seen the like. Until a month or so ago it as a toss-up. Now?
