Blogging at The Almost Daily Binx

Many years ago, single - residing in NYC and traveling more than half of the time I would enjoy being fussed over by my part-time housekeeper Nora. Originally from Ecuador, she spoke with a very heavy accent. I gave her unrestricted access to my apartment and my fine cigars etc... Often she and her husband would enjoy NYC from my apartment for a holiday weekend when I traveled. I was delighted to offer and the evidence of this highly beneficial quid pro quo included fine meals cached in my refrigerator when I returned from trips, as well as a spotless and tidy environment.

When I wasn't home ... although the telephone had a machine ... she would often answer the phone and forward messages to my service.

On one occasion, Howard, my London colleague was unable to find me in London where he had been expecting me. He tried but there was no answer at my flat there either. Shortly before cell phones were prominent he called my home in NYC to leave me a message, figuring eventually I would get it. Nora answered. He asked for me. "Binx101" was her answer. Bewildered at the response he requested she repeat her answer many times ... he finally understood he was getting nowhere.

Shortly thereafter, I contacted my frazzled colleague and we met. After explaining my delay and apologizing profusely he simply said that I was off the hook if I could simply translate what Nora had told him. Then he stated speaking with his best replication of what he heard her say. "Binx101"

Now, I could understand Nora's accent without hesitation. In fact, in a previous life, the linguistics and phonetics of foreign accents was my field of expertise- so even on a terrible phone line I could understand the heaviest of accents from any origin. However, I couldn't for the life of me imagine what Howard was telling me as his ineptitude at language was compounded further with his intolerable adoption of a cartoon character's voice in his performance which only succeeded further annoying me, as it was an attempt to besmirch my dear Nora. There was only one thing left to do. I called New York and asked Nora what she had told Howard when he asked for me. After reassuring her that there was no trouble but her accuracy was important, she told me, as Howard listened on the speaker. He shouted with glee in the final performance of his demented falsetto "See !! Binx101 !!!" I thanked Nora, again reassured her that nothing was wrong and apologized for bothering her at home. Then I turned to Howard and told him that what he heard, understandably, as Binx101 was simply - "Vince went away."

Over the next week, all of my professional contacts began calling me Binx101, and so it remains.

This seemed much more fun than - attended here, served there ... awarded this and that ... and dumb as a post. (no pun)

How do you know they didn't water-board McCain to get this information out of him ???

This is the most infuriating 'hero' in history.
A military expert I hear, as well.
But he doesn't sound very thoughtful
Or very smart as I can tell

He's touting his years as prisoner of war
Credentials meant to impress us
But I want the guy that didn't get shot down
Good pilot would be the consensus

So why do we deal with this crazy old coot
Even the Czechs think he is nuts
Lindsay, Joe and Phil in a row
It's terribly easy to hate all their guts

First he pretended to understand money
Then he confessed all his 'don't knows'
Then he recanted and claimed expertise
Now he's Obama's Tokyo Rose posted 07/18/2008 at 18:01:35

Four Years Under The Influence: Netroots Nation Panel Examines The Growth Of The Political Internet

We talked about some of this today - how the media has bridged the information gap by using anything they can to keep their market vital. In the case of corporate media - the outcome is irrelevant though, as long as they get the lion's share of the money the candidates have raised. That's what they're looking at and that's why they go easy on McCain.

If they hammer him, their market-share shrinks. In other words, if they report in a more transparent accurate manner - they'll make significantly less money.

I feel comfortable to translate - sounds like one of MY clients :)

Everyone is entitled
to their own opinion
You certainly have yours,
Obama, his own dominion

But he is very thoughtful
and cunning in the clutch
He knows what he is doing
So thank you very much

So sorry, very sad
No invite for hero Max
However also absent
Will be McCain attacks

And just for a wild guess
I think its fair to say
You're surely from the GOP
And came here just to play

The Post-Social Contract Generation

I'm afraid I have to take issue with the argument you have posited here. Out of box you assert that Gen Y is collectively the most pessimistic generation ever. You may have good reason to believe that but this is purely opinion and shouldn't be hoisted so cavalierly. How Gen 'D' perceiving things ... you know Generation 'Depression' and how about Generation WWII.

You seem to have nonchalantly discounted the potential for historically competing pessimists (with justification) But that isn't actually the premiere point.

This 30 and under crowd may be accustomed to or fighting with sensory overload - granted - and their language and expression is different, by my observation, to a greater extent from its parent generation than the last few generations. While this may be my dementia and not measurable at all - I don't profess to be expounding as though it were measurable data - which I fear you did.

Lastly, this Generation Y has this middle aged man, very enthusiastic because of their commitment to the planet, our politics and quite often their neighbors. They may very well yield the best days of our lives because of what they learned and watched during the worst days of our lives - and I surely mean the coup of the American National Government by neocon operatives and bootleggers..

Pessimistic, I don't agree. Realistic, energetic and breathtaking with their embracing the challenges ahead to correct the mistakes of its predecessors. Us.

Obama Calls Criticism Of Wife 'Infuriating'

The line - "Michelle Obama came under fire in February when she said she was proud of her country for the first time in her adult life. She later clarified her remark, saying she has always been proud of her country and was particularly proud to see so many people involved in the political process."

This type of statement has been issued by many many people. One had to go looking for this to be significant and require clarification. She learned well, because they're stalking her ... and nothing Zip, zilch - skiberk - nada.

No doubt she'll be a first class first lady.

Get Real

Seriously, commended ??? Why do we have to use this conciliatory language? Don't get me wrong - I know what you meant but this man McCain is the Republican Party stooge - and I say that with all due respect. He's the stooge. It could have been Mike Huckabee he has the same unending delusion that he's born to be president - but McCain actually has some money behind him and the President that pummeled him wanted a chance to prop him up.

So this nice language about him maneuvering politically is getting me annoyed.

John McCain is worse than a consummate politician - he's a poser. He's not very bright. Granted, next to Bush, Larry the cable guy appears to be insightful - but that's not a standard.

McCain is truly a liar. He will say anything at anytime if he feels it will help him get elected.
McCain is not a scholar. He was bottom of his class all his life.
McCain is not a Maverick. He wanted that nick-name to stick but now it's not helpful.
McCain is not a military expert. He knew he wasn't going to reach Flag rank despite his lineage.
McCain is not a good-guy. He's for hire.

McCain is dumb. He proves it with regularity.

Phil Gramm May Be Gone, But His Porn Lives On

As a Republican you should be frightened. You're a person without a party. The Republican Party was hijacked by Newt Gingrich and never returned despite the feeble pleas and ploys of the party's ultra conservative hold-outs. Phil Gramm, just another addict ... power addict with no soul.

But in reality, this (current Republican party) is the abandoned hull of the religious right's tug-toy and the oil oligarchy that has plagued our country since Ronald Reagan sung for his supper in California by kissing their butts for the promise of the presidency and then holding the door open of them when he got to the White House.

George er ... John McCain is not one of them. He's their joke - the decoy - eventually the scapegoat. That's why a Phil Gramm exists in his world. No actual Republican has a very high opinion of Gramm. He's a disgrace. Wanna see real pornography - listen to any McCain Town Hall. Pure profanity. Listen to McCain as he speaks Gramm's words.

David Remnick On That New Yorker Cover: It's Satire, Meant To Target "Distortions And Misconceptions And Prejudices" About Obama

The New Yorker's choice was unfortunate - trash - no? journalism - probably.

But .. that being said ... why would they think the irony would be so evident in a country that sat stoically by while the USSC appointed their President - then they reelected him. How could they believe that a country that puts John McCain on the top of the GOP ticket for President is conscious enough to understand the irony.

I'm afraid they have a lot of the country just seeing the picture and missing the ... artistic expression. It seems that the New Yorker is living in the same kind of glass bubble that the White House has been living in if they thought this was going to play like Warhol's Campbell's Soup Can.

Your Japanese business analogy is spot on and completely recognizable as 'Toyota Way'. Jeffery K. Liker's book 'The Toyota Way - 14 Management Principles from the World's Greatest Manufacturer' chronicles the 'operating system' in a very digestible form.

Obama's style is a dramatic break from what has become a national addiction to being a marketing demographic - and feeling unloved if our politicians don't brazenly lie to our faces - and really annoyed if our Press isn't 24/7 playing lethal 'gotcha.' If we don't have a Stooges smack-down surrounding us all the time we seem to go into sensory deprivation. Oh my GOD !!!!!! Not that !!!! No !!! No !!! No!!!! Not thinking !!!!! Ah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These 14 principles include a majority aimed directly at resolving conflict respectfully. It is a less is more approach. Having had personal experience in working with the auto giant, I can simply state - these principles aren't optional, and, they work. It is a manual for teamsmanship. The motto 'Yes We Can' seems to lead with the precepts, in stark contrast to rivals, who have routinely tried to force Obama into the fighting cage.

Great article.

You are as old school as Jessie Jackson. You ignore progress. This reminds me of the Italian American anti-defamation league. It was a blind for the mob, not for Italians, whose circumstances and socialization had changed dramatically.

So you want to load up Obama's shoulders with 400 years of injustice and invalidate him because he's not able to go in the 'way-back' machine and undo history.

Personally - I think he's doing just fine making history. A few years ago - he was an obscure politician that did some fine work. He just completed leading and winning a battle against the most deeply rooted Democratic Dinosaur machine in political history, has to lead the unification after the battle while beginning a battle with the Darkest regime in American history - and you are whining and threatening.

Your commentary is immature and unrealistic, albeit, it's your right - your argument is that he mentioned the elephant in the room.

We invaded a country that is believed to have 20% of the World's oil. In our name - government officials have been cooking up deals to steal their oil and give them an allowance.

Oh .. you mean these gains.

1. Triple the gasoline prices in the US
2. Estimates of over 1 million human beings dead -including American military lives
3. An estimated 4.5 million Iraqi's displaced
4. Regular extermination of Iraqi Catholics
5. National debt that underwritten by foreign governments
6. The destruction of the American military to the such an extent that the only way the US could protect itself against foreign threat is by launching a nuclear attack

Read number 6 very carefully - this is the undertone of everything that your pals have been praying for when they have BBQ's at Perl's or Krystoll's summer house. This is why they don't give a rat's butt about veterans or active military for that matter.

Obama On Late Abortion: Mental Distress Doesn't Justify It

Personally, I have never had any misgivings about abortion ... while those in favor of it chose the most innocuous words to describe it - the opposition uses the most horrific and inaccurate words to describe it. It is the denial of life. There may be some very good reasons to consider it. Those opposed to it, may also be very persuasive. But we should not deny that this is the ultimate denial of life. At least then ... we would be not be speaking in platitudes. What makes many consider this course is how we, as a nation presume all these rights for a fetus ... but when it is a living breathing child ... we don't seem to care very much unless it suits us.

Democrats fall on both sides of this issue ... it's okay to change one's mind ... if all living things are either growing or dying ... sticking to one's gun's is tantamount to dying. Someday this conversation about abortion, the responsibility in presiding over death and life, denial of death and life may actually occur. Meanwhile - it has been nothing but a war of slogans and we certainly haven't accomplished much - not for human rights, women's rights or equal rights on this particular subject because it is owned by the ideologues on both sides, irrespective of the fact that they only shout at each other.

McCain Flips At Legit Question

This is all political theater.

The entire Republican presidential campaign is about John McCain (or Mike Huckabee) being the Party Stooge and the scapegoat. There are only a handful of politicians that actually believe this is a legitimate candidate or they wouldn't be so desperate in everything they say or do. Have you listened to Lyndsay Graham lately. Chances are this will be his last term in the Senate so he's going for broke. Same with Lieberman.

John McCain - possibly the most deluded human on the planet. The accidental hero. Sorry, I respect his service and the ordeal he went through. He was tortured. That is no excuse for unleashing his disconnected - disjointed, hardly resolvable circular logic on the American public. Shame on AZ for electing this fraud in the first place.

Obama and Clinton Reunite In Unity, NH

It's really time to retire the old primary contest warfare tools and engage in a presidential election. Even Unified - the Democratic party is a big troublesome tent - because it's the nature of liberalism to say "no" as a last resort.

Here's a chance to prove that the Democratic party can sustain the change it needs, turn over the reigns from the creepy dinosaurs to the youth movement that is largely responsible for Obama's success - and - prove that we're mature enough to stop attacking those on our own side. I was not a Hillary for president fan, but there sure are a lot of Hillary supporters that were asked to swallow hard and support Obama. For the most part - they mostly have.

I'm going put away my baggage and pitch in. I'm going to cheer her on and not expend anymore energy hammering someone that has been asked to help, or further stiff arm Democrats that formerly supported Hillary, whose engagement is very important. There's only one way to put a Democratic candidate in the White House and that is going to be by conserving our collective fight to combat the Republican National Committee and it's friends. There's nothing to be accomplished by wasting energy on fight that's over.

It's really time to play follow the leader - and the leader said - "Hillary, I'm campaigning with you"

It would seem that HRC's greatest contribution will be whipping up the excitement and convincingly organize fence sitting supporters of their duty, if the Republican / neo-con coup of our government is to be eradicated. Period.

The statistics that drove the news months ago, are now no longer important. Hillary Clinton has much to gain by throwing in and assisting in change. Obama won't stand for another Democrat, particularly Hillary Clinton, being a victim of Democratic success. The healing has been well underway, and the Democratic dinosaurs of power that supported Clinton, want to be wooed. Obama-Carter Comparisons Dubious

John McCain is not a smart man. He didn't attract public service talent in his desperate attempt at another presidential run - rather - he attracted more of the operatives that have made their collective livings by feeding furiously on the back of Americans and made millions by creating access for a list of dubious corporations - to the US Treasury. This may be rooted in the fact that McCain has really never been on anyone else's payroll other than the US public. While he is a popular point of access to corporatists - he's never really worked in the private sector.

His attacks on Obama via Carter are as disdainful as his smearing Muslims and Semitic people all over the world. If McCain had a fraction of Carter's reasoning power or heart - he would have already retired to a library where he could spend the remainder of his years learning what he professes to know.

Naive? You are deluding yourself. This is dignified.

Personally, I believe you are conflating naiveté with mature. What anyone does regarding Cindy McCain's abuses of her media availability has nothing to do with acting in a dignified manner.

Clearly, the Obama campaign disagrees with your point of view, for they have not wallowed in the muck that you suggest. Certainly I don't mean to offend you, but gut checks and all the hooey is for the Neanderthal crowd.

If we do as you suggest, then everything that the Obama campaign has done thus far should have been ineffective. I respectfully disagree. This is the entire basis of the discussion regarding torture of prisoners captured by the US. Using your argument ... we should do anything we want to, regardless of the Constitution we claim to preserve. I respectfully disagree with your sentiment. As I read it the second time I wanted to start inserting notes of the high points of Mr. Pollack's words with (like Obama does) Clearly, this is the larger point of the Obama campaign ... engaging in politics with less blood-lust and more substance.

Mrs. McCain's personal behavior and or lenient treatment is certainly on the table ... but to what end? That's the question - and I can only applaud the tenor of this article and agree, restraint in the easy cheap shots at Cindy McCain is merely a way of striking back at her and retaliating ... but does it strengthen the actual argument for the greater good?

Discussing it? Certainly. It's on the table because she's put herself on the table. Cheap shots? I haven't seen the Obama campaign engage in them, while there has been abundant opportunity, they have always exercised restraint. Do you realize how they propose to move that oil? They move it by pipeline. A single round from a rifle can disable the entire supply.

Addiction to foreign oil. Americans, plain old Americans could crush the oil companies and make them reassess their protracted fiction and lower prices immediately by reducing our consumption - by 20%. We could do that in a week - if we lowered the National speed limit to 50. Then we could address where to go from there ... when we are holding a more powerful hand, the hand of the market that spends the money. We've made it a sellers market. Why would we be so stupid?

But, the biggest problem with this ... we Americans. We would rather complain and bicker with each other over politics than pull together with some argument, agreement and execution. We don't like to be inconvenienced and we're even more selfish about holding on to our opinions - long after they're of any use.

While today's speech was, overall, a positive, one didn't have to be a 'profiler' in order to grasp the conflict and the emotion being suppressed by the speaker. The corporate media appeared to be in exultation of the event.

Fact is, my take, is that there is a profound sadness from the former candidate and clearly, there was an expression from her that she had been unfairly encouraged to get out of the way, particularly biting, since her team, right up until her introduction in the last bewildering speech, seemed as though they were encouraged by something in an alternate reality. The sound bites are abundant..

I also firmly believe - that the delay this morning was further editing of the speech, in which her own staff were incapable of scrubbing their own vitriol, and required editing assistance after its preview in confidence was rejected by Party elders concerned with unity.

Iran May Have Used Pentagon Officials To Feed Bogus Intel To Bush Administration

What a shock !!!

Further, considering the BS that has come from the White House and its complicit cohorts in the corporate media - wouldn't it be reasonable to postulate that just like the phony Niger reports - the White House knew that the intelligence data was a scam, but used it to shill for a war they had planned before Bush was sworn in to office?

Did you every read one of Hillary Clinton's articles?? If you haven't, let me suggest you go examine a few. She's no writer, in fact, she may have some great qualities, but I have never understood them.

McCain Vs. Obama: Where Candidates Stand On Environment And Energy

Having hosted an environmental panel in Northern California recently, we discovered many interesting issues during the Q&A. There is a hostility that bubbles just beneath the surface. A contempt for those that will make money and create successful businesses in reaching the goals of a Greener world.

I've found it confounding and baffling to deal with purists and non-believers alike. Not surprisingly, it runs along the same divide as Liberals and Conservatives. This leads me to believe it has more to do with essential political propaganda than it does with any actual facts.

The line is moving because the neocon obstructionists, very well funded in petro-dollars, are losing way to reason. Many former supporters have glanced at their reflection, fist pumping furiously in support of political leadership that through deficient governance, has left them essentially cheering for people who have been picking their pockets and poisoning their planet.

Quite the wake-up call.

But don't expect them all to change - we have many Americans that aren't smarter than a 5th Grader - and we have to turn that trend around. It could, though actually be fun and exciting. Learning is always rewarding.

What was your purpose?

Did you forget to supply a rationale for your statement?

I'm curious as to what made you write this comment, when we've just witnessed one of the most fierce and well mannered campaigns, under the most incomprehensible circumstances from the clearly an organization that was built from the ground up in a remarkably short time.

What was your motivation.

Are you an Obama supporter, a Hillary Supporter or a Republican?
What was your point.?

I'm seriously asking because I'm bewildered.

America's 40 Years War at an End

Terrific article, although I hated the way you began it with the reference to RFK.
This is, in my opinion, an allegory better left unsaid for the next 50 years - particularly after Hillary's recent attempt. However, from an historical point of view, I understand why the analogy is irresistible and irrefutable.

Your article supported your opening assertion, but I'm still uneasy about it. Your fine article has evoked a screaming match in my Gemini head. (No stop being afraid - I can't, these people are nuts - Grow UP !!!)

The article is outstanding.

Daily Show's Stewart 'Quietly Visiting' Ailing Iraq Soldiers

Funny ... I thought the underlying article was about Soldiers honoring Stewart.

Goodness, wait until General James Cartwright realizes what he's done !!! posted 03/28/2008 at 20:12:30
