And in most cases, the time spent will be more efficient with city center to city center train travel. First off... condolences to Tim Russert's family and friends. He was definitely a good guy and a good interviewer. I just wonder whose idea it was to put Luke Russert on three days after his father's untimely death. The kid agreed to do it, so... But that's the point, he's still a kid, really. Not to be overly cynical, but you know at least one news/infotainment/marketing fuck at NBC saw Russert's death as a sad but fortuitous tie-in with "A Very Special" Father's Day.

All of this almost gleefully elegiac coverage (definitely a creation of contemporary media) with its sickening, precious emotionalism just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. How many other super-wonderful people died on Friday? Darfur doesn't get coverage anymore (never really did), but the entire nation is subjected to 72 hours of NBC's broadcasting of its internal sympathy card. Gross. posted 06/16/2008 at 15:35:37
