Six months ago, I favored Hillary. Not because she was a woman, but because I respected how Bill had turned the economy around. Bill did it by choosing intelligent, if a little too conservative, people who knew what they were doing. I assumed she had served an apprenticeship that would serve her well.
Then I heard Bill begin to say stupid, pointed and childish crap. He was indignat that Democrats were attacking Hillary's 'entitlement' to the presidency. Then, I heard Hillary's supporters, especially the more intellectually disabled Feminists, saying they would vote for McCain if Hillary lost the nomination.
By the time the smoke cleared, it was obvious that Hillary was McCain in Menopause. She offers nothing but, as we say out West, Bullshit.. If feminists want to vote for McCain, you will have to deal with what the Supreme Court will do to your gains with his new appointments.

Iwo Jima Vets Slam Time Cover, Dismiss Global Warming As "A Joke"
The first picture, the one you DONT usually see, although Clint Eastwood and the History Channel both have, was taken by the company photographer. It was the 'unit flag' on top of a piece of electrical conduit. My neighbor, whose brother was in the company photograph, died within a week of the photo.
The neighbor and I have speculated what would have happened if his brother were the Indian instead of Ira Hayes. Could he have survived what Hayes hated about being paraded around like a pet Indian?
WWll veterans got what they earned: parades and heroes welcome, free college, low interest housing, respect, free medical care forever.
Yet, they still bitch about everything because... that's what grumpy old men do!!! I have relatives still bitching about the loss of the nickel ice cream cone!

First of all....were any of the complaining Marines on Mt Suribachi that day? My neighbor's brother was. He was killed three days later. He helped raise the original flag on several feet of electrical conduit. That flag was the company flag, I believe. But....I guess he and the original guys who actually fought their way to the top were not photogenic enough and the commander of the operation wanted the actual flag so....there is Rosenthal's iconic image.

Actually, I agree with Randi on this one. Both McCain and Clinton attacks on Obama are very, very close in style and wording. (I believe that McCain sold out when he was told the post POTUS benefits.) Since the FCC was trashed by Reagan, the opportunities to present contrary points of view has been, more or less, eliminated.
To think that a school named after 'Justice Brandeis' we deny people the right to speak out is just, oh I dont know...ironic?
Free Speech as presented in the Bill of RIghts only existed for about five years in the late sixties to early seventies. It was the reason the war ended, the reason the civil rights acts passed, the reason that Martin Luther King was so adored. But, it was eliminated because the truth is just soooo troublesome...Its good in theory, but not in practice. (see the pens at the NYC GOP convention...free speech, my ass.).
The adminstration has muzzled NOAA, NASA , science, and even the Park Service (dont tell anyone how old the Grand Canyon really is. It might offend some of the president's flat earth society people.)

Complaints About Airlines on the Rise
Carter appointee, FAA official, Alfred ':Lard Ass' Kahn, decided that regulating uniforms on stews was just too much work. He campaigned to deregulate the entire airline industry and he started a boom of deregulation. (I wont even get into the banking disasters.)
The problems were obvious from the beginning that the airline industry needed regulation, needed guidance.. What happened was that a few devious big money guys gutted several good airlines...Continental, Frontier, Western, etc, and escaped with millions...much like the aftermath of the S and L debacle. Remember that some new airlines, including current Southwest, had to cut corners without ticket protection. Jet Blue and others wound up cutting maintenance and safety without anyone being able to watch over their shoulder. Maintenance contractors installed used parts as new.
The Airline industry has been subsidized since the 1920's and when you get free money from someone, it is only logical that you play by their rules. Who would have thought that Eastern, Pan Am, TWA would ever go out of business? Who would have thought flying would be less comfortable than Greyhound?
Deregulation produced bad customer service, no food, no luxuries in peasant class, poor on time performance, crappy service...etc, etc, etc... Now, America has some of the world's worst air service. The Destructive Rise of Big Finance
Kevin, either I am getting more conservative or you are getting more 'reasonable.' I despised you when you were a big Reagan fan, but then, a lot of people I respected followed that bus off the cliff.
Most of what has happened today should have been avoided by studying the S and L disaster. But, the pull of 'deregulation' was too great for our political process to withstand. The Grover Norquists and others who talk about unleashing capitalism and getting out from under the stifling bonds of oversight are now seeing that the Bullshit about taxes, regulation and unrestrained greed is piling up outside their doors.
Why you are not the voice of the GOP regarding economics is beyond me. I only hope the next president takes cues from your books.
