You Broke It, You Own It -- Obama Style

The numbers are in an the conclusions are very clear. Hillary only wins in Appalachia. A map of counties where she took 60 pct or more matches Appalachia almost exactly. Remember Appalachia extends from Southern New York all the way to Northern Alabama.

We know Appalachian voters, when presented with the choice of of a black man and a white woman will pick the white woman. The 64 dollar question is will they choose a white woman over a white man who was a war hero to boot. That's a risk I don't want to take.

Barak Obama has shown he can bring in large numbers of new voters and do very well in places (the South, the West) where the Clintonistas have bee scared to compete . Moreover Obama has done well with both whites and blacks. Hillary, who had a majority of the black vote last November, has lost it all which has reduced her support by 35pct.

Its very clear. In terms of voter demographics Hillary is the risky choice. When you factor in her chaotic campaign, financial troubles and all the skeletons Bill has collected in the past 8 years (Kazakhstan anyone?), Hillary is the real risk. This is a no-brainer. Obama all the way. posted 05/15/2008 at 11:35:40

Race Is All the Clintons Have Left

Hillary is not going to be president because she voted for the Iraq War resolution, not because she listened to Mark Penn. She betrayed us at the most basic level a leader can betray their supporters. She has not come clean about it and continues to lie about her real motivations.

People know this and that's why no one trusts her.

There are no other explanations. Jeff Garin's efforts to humanize Hillary just made her look silly and provided a lot of extra footage for your cable channel. Terry McCauliffe and Howard Wolfsohn's increasingly fantastic spin just make that campaign look like it emerged from the twilight zone. posted 05/07/2008 at 17:47:17

Obama On O'Reilly: "Looking Forward" To Going On The Factor

Don't do it....Dont' be stupid.....Obama has nothing to gain and everything to lose if he puts himself at Bill O's mercy.

Bill's show is a video version of a shooting gallery, guests have no control and the only result is that Obama will look stupid and those clips will haunt him for the rest of the election.

Hasn't the Obama campaign realized that the Hillary interview was scripted and that is why she did so well? Hasn't the Obama campaign realized that FOX and the right wing have a vested interest in building Hillary up and tearing him down?

The Chris Wallace interview was relatively benign and allows Obama to say he did Fox. He doesn't need to do more. The Fox viewers will never vote for him. Best just to stay away. posted 05/05/2008 at 12:15:41

Elizabeth Edwards Denies Endorsement Rumors

Edwards is only proving he is a bitter, egotistical prima-donna. If he is not the center of attention then forget it. People don't remember 2004, Edwards did very little in that race except to fight for camera space with Kerry. He was almost invisible and contributed very little, very much like now.

Yes, he can speak well when he wants to, and he had some good ideas particularly around health care. But he is a lacking a certain generosity of spirit and that came across as angry and petulant in this race. His focus on poverty as opposed to the general condition of the economy, felt like a lot of finger wagging and didn't generate the votes he needed.

Unfortunately his vote for Iraq and general corporatist voting record in the Senate did not help him. posted 04/28/2008 at 23:29:07

Probing a Political Paradox: Why the Discredited Right Still Sets the Agenda and Dominates the Debate

People need to understand that when the Media talks about centrism, they are not talking about the mid-point on a line between left and right. They are not even talking about the mid-point of American politics which is way to the right on that original line. What they are talking about is the optimal combination of positioning and spin that gets you invited the largest number of cocktail parties.
The main-stream media look at their jobs not as truth-tellers, but as party-goers. Since news is now ubiquitous and essentially free, the Main Stream media is reduced to promoting its packaging ie. "our reporters have lunch with more famous people than your reporters." Without access, they have nothing to sell so they are at the mercy of their subjects. this results in the "on one hand and on the other hand" approach. It isn't about news its about sucking up to the largest number of people in order to keep your dance card full. posted 04/29/2008 at 09:09:41

MoveOn: Obama Got Outfoxed

Dear Mr. Green:

You have completely missed the point of Obama's visit to Fox. It wasn't for your entertainment or to validate your opinions about Fox just being a propoganda network. It was for Obama to introduce himself to a new group of voters who only know about him through the attacks from Hillary and Fox.

The goal of the interview was to come accross as reasonable, calm and likable to people who insist on thinking about him as an angry black man. By going to Fox and showing them respect, he is showing respect to those voters that he now needs to close this deal.

I think he succeeded brilliantly. I saw the followup to the interview, and except for Bill Kristol (who is just a political operative and will piss on Obama no matter what) everyone else was respectful. It blunts the attacks on his weakest flank.

What we don't understand is that Obama's politics are truely revolutionary. He is dealing with this poison on the right not by fighting it, but by gathering so much support from all sides, that he will just wash it away like a huge wave. We have never seen anything like this, and we don't know how to deal with it. posted 04/29/2008 at 12:18:00

Arianna Discusses The Right Wing's "Lunatic Fringe" On ABC's 20/20

Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics. When they show you a chart you gotta get the details behind the numbers. Sure poor people's incomes grew by 3% over the past 8 years but inflation grew by what 10%, 12%? Household expenses have risen by 40%. in the past 3 years alone.

Reminds me of the joke about the 3 unemployed guys sitting in a bar. Bill Gates walks in and the average income in the bar shoots up to 250 million a year.

What economists have shown is that people earning less that the 60th percentile have lost ground. between 60 and 70 % they gained 3pct. The 99th percentile gained 100 pct and the 99.5 and above gained 1,500%. The only welfare reform that has been successful has been the corporate welfare that Bush and Co have given companies like Haliburton. posted 04/26/2008 at 09:13:16

Howard Kurtz's Take on Self-Loathing Liberal Media: Naïve, Disingenuous, or Willfully Ignorant?

It always amazes me that people can't tell the difference between a pundit with an point of view and a political operative. Sure there are conservative thinkers and, yes they are trying to promote a point of view and they should have a forum.

Political operatives like Rove, Snow and Kristol are not their to inform they are there to promote the specific interests of their party in what ever way they can.

A good example was Bill Kristol's hawkish position on Iran last fall. Because he was pretending to be a pundit he made it sound reasonable and necessary. In fact, we know now after the NY Times broke the NIE story, that the Republicans were deliberately ramping up the tension on Iraq to give their candidates more traction in November.

The NY Times, Newsweek and CNN have have turned over some of the most prestigious media platforms to party operatives who will use them to do the dirty work of their organizations.

ps. Howie: CNN canned Carville and Begala when they found they were doing Hillary's work rather than the network's. The same should hold true for Republicans. posted 04/26/2008 at 18:42:14

Defining Obama

Everyone hoped that we could avoid the unspoken terror of this election; race. But that hasn't happened. The monster is loose and like a foul cloud is poisoning our discourse and destroying any chance of us coming together.

So Obama, what are you going to do about it? I know its Hillary's fault. I know that as a black man you can't attack a white woman; even as she attacks you.

So what are you going to do? What are we going to do? If we sit back and let this unravel to the inevitable sordid conclusion, what will we have left? What will our country look like? Will George Bush be the best we deserve?

As Thomas Paine wrote so many years ago: "These are the times that try men's souls." So as your supporter I challenge you, and as my candidate I hope you challenge me. Greatness is still possible but not in the direction we are currently headed. posted 04/25/2008 at 12:04:09

Media Jump Ship From Obama To Clinton

If anyone had any doubts that the MSM has its own agenda in this election, and that agenda is hostile to the American voter, those doubts should be put to rest now.

The MSM is not reporting this election, its a participant. They want either Hillary or John McCain who will continue the corporate friendly, media consolidation policies of the past. Obama is way too populist and makes the nervous. More importantly his ability to raise money directly from the people means he can't be bought. Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean May Intervene In Dem Primary

Much as I dislike Hillary and look forward to an Obama presidency, Harry Reid meddling in this process is a realy bad idea. Let the process go where it needs to go. Its necessary if we are going to move forward and take this country back. If you stop it, you will permanently piss off one side or the other and the only benificiaries will be the Republicans.

Don't worry, Hillary will inevitably betray the supporters who are hanging on so tight to her now; just as she has betrayed everyone else who has trusted and supported her over the years.

The Democratic leadership needs to have a little more faith in its members and it needs to stop being so gutless; though given Harry Reid's record as a leader that is probably too much to hope for. posted 04/24/2008 at 20:12:59

Long Primary Damaging Democrats

Will everyone please lighten up. This is the worst case of manufactured paranoia I have ever seen and I have lived through 8 years of Bush Jr.

Don't you get it? All these "issues" are made up by the press and pundits to keep this thing going to sell newspapers, get ratings and to keep themselves in the limelight.

All this speculation about super-delegates is just made up. This "do or die" "dead-heat" framing is completely bogus. This race hasn't been close since Super Tuesday.

Fact: The race has been over since the potomac primaries. Jonathan Alter crunched the numbers then and figured out Hillary could not catch Obama in either popular vote or pledged delegates.

Fact: If Hillary knew she had a chance for the super-delegates she would be running a very different race; much more positive

Fact: If Obama knew he didn't have the Super Delegates the party leaders would be leaning on him very hard to drop out with the understanding that his turn would come later.

Fact: Pennsylvania was the most likely state for Hillary in the entire country. She was 20 points ahead 4 weeks ago. She just won it by 9+ points. How is that a victory?

The next time some speculates on Super-Delegates ask yourself whether you believe that person has even talked with a super-delegate.

Wake up people! You are being played like a $2 fiddle. Don't let them do this to you. posted 04/23/2008 at 17:21:43

Thoughts on Pennsylvania, Clinton and Obama from a "Realisticrat"

The reality is that main-stream democrats don't know how to defeat Republicans. Its only when Dems ignore the conventional wisdom (e.g. you can't run against the Iraq war) that they do well.

All the arguments mentioned in your post qualify as conventional wisdom and as such should be ignored at all costs.

The biggest argument you have is that Hillary will do better against the Republican attach machine because she is tougher and has been vetted. This is nonsense. Hillary whines and blames others when she is down; that's not toughness. More importantly the press and the right wing have essentially left her and Bill alone in the 8 years since leaving the White House. You haven't begun to scratch the surface of all of Bill's deals. Hillary's brother selling pardons and the fund raising sleaze of Bills' library. Oh did I mention Bill's girl friends? The Republicans will have a field day. That's why they are working so hard to get her nominated. posted 04/22/2008 at 22:20:45

The very fact that so many people in both camps are so angry with ABC indicated that the format was a surprise and not the reason they tuned in.

Why This Is The End For The Clintons

"Thugocrat?" That's good! Gosh, I actually feel dangerous...Mom would be so proud!

Anyway. I agree both books were very successful, but 100 million worth? Try 10 or 20 million, that's what a Grisham or a Daniella Steele makes per book.

The issue here is that there are lots of stories floating around about Bill getting "pay to play" money. The New York Times did a shocking story about Bill introducing a Canadian Mining guy to the president of Khazakstan. The mining company got a 100 million contract, Bill got a 15 million donation. The whole thing stinks.

Whether Bill keeps it himself, or its dumped into a foundation that pays him or his friends its still bad and its a landmine waiting to blow Hillary up in the general election.

Finally, the source of the money still doesn't refute the basic premise of the post; that this money has put the Clintons out of touch with the people they want to represent. posted 04/06/2008 at 08:48:32

1. That we attacked a country that was no threat to us with justifications that were complete lies.
2. That our war based on lies has killed 4000 americans and at least 300,000 Iraqis. 2 million Iraqis are refugees.
3. That we now torture people, and are proud of it.
4. That our constitution has been shredded, we have lost rights that have been with us since the Magna Carta and that we are now living in a tyranny.
5. That the president says he is above the law.
6. That the president has the right to declare anyone an enemy, arrest them without charge, torture them and kill them.
7. That the elites of this country: congress, the media, and the academy are not just silent but are actually aiding and abbetting the destruction of this great experiment call America.

I should be more polite? Civil?......... Hell no!!! My ancestor when faced with this kind of Tyranny picked up a gun and stood at Bunker Hill. Also, unlike any other candidate, she has a large stable of people who have been with her for years and have nothing else in their lives except her run for the presidency. The comments about loving America are there to remind people of Wright's "God damn America" quote. They have nothing to do with patriotism.

The reference to "other stuff that intrudes into our politics" is a code phrase for " He's Black*, He's Black, did I mention he's Black"

I never bought into the spin that Bill Clinton was the first black president, but at least he had a sense of fairness and justice when he was president. Watching him descend to Republican levels of bigotry and sleaze is really depressing. Doesn't he realize how pitiful it makes both of them look?
