Courtney Hazlett, MSNBC Talking Head, Calls Spike Lee "Uppity"

Even if we ignore the historical connotation the word brings - the gossip reporter's use of it in this context did not make sense. What made Mr. Lee "uppity" in challenging the absence of Black solders from two movies that were about war? I think she did not know what the actual meaning of the word was and she heard it somewhere and wanted to use it. posted 06/06/2008 at 22:55:06

Obama Plays Nice In Pennsylvania

Ms. Fowler, your piece is the type of campaign road reporting I was looking for. Thank you for a genuinly informative and fresh reporting. I really enjoyed it. When I heard about the "bus tour", I wanted to hear about Obama's intraction with people. I wanted to hear genuine stories about real people in small towns; so thank you! posted 03/31/2008 at 18:06:38

Chris Matthews Really Plays Hardball, Demands New Guest Name Sources For Obama Claim

By saying "does Barack Obama have issues with Jewish people, does his campaign." she made an irresponsible statement and he was right to challenge her. I hope he does that more often. I also wonder why media figures like him let people get away with absurd statements in their shows. Sometimes they surrender all responsibility simply because they have a panel that can yell at each other.

The other night I was watching Campbell Brown"s show at CNN (first and last time) and she had a panel consisting of blogers and one female bloger with a whinny voice made an absurd comment about Barack Obama"s 2004 Democratic Convention speech, Ms. Brown instead of challenging her just waited for the other Bloger to respond. I find that irresponsible. People cannot make misleading statements in your show without challenging them or asking them to prove their assertion.

Finally, I do not get why someone criticising Israel is anti-Jewish or anti-Semitic. Does criticising China, make someone anti-Chinese or expressing disapproval of Saudi Arabia"s despotic regime make someone anti-Arab. It is absurd. It"s aim is to critics and to muddy any argument, so that no one dares to question Israel"s policies and occupation of Palestinian lands. posted 03/29/2008 at 11:46:13

Joe Wilson Drinks the Napalm

Thank you Chip for this great post, it echoes my sentiments.
I too was astonished by Ambassador Wilson's rage and wonton attach on Obama. It is perfectly admirable to be a passionate advocate for your candidate but I do not understand the apparent loathing Ambassador Wilson has for Obama and the unfair innuendoes he puts forward. He is becoming in league with people like Taylor Marsh. I had the greatest sympathy for him and his wife but I am losing all my respect for him. Not because I support Obama but because his posts show me that he is resentful that Obama has such support. It speaks to the sense of entitlement that camp Clinton has. posted 03/27/2008 at 13:55:53

Curb Your Enthusiasm Meets Barack Obama

Stop with the misleading information. He never said that, he said that he did not hear those particular sermons. Unless you and your partners in misinformation proof otherwise you cannot say "he lied to us".

On a positive note, I would like to thank Michael for this thoughtful post. It is a great take and it brings home the relevance of Obama's message. It resonated with this nominally Muslim, half African, half White Canadian, who is married to a white Christian man, whose mother is always reminding me about their Mayflower heritage- which reminds me, I need to do some reading about that. I always thought Mayflower had to do with some sex scandal but not according to my mother in law.

But I digress, thanks Michael for being open minded. posted 03/25/2008 at 13:59:32

The Public Self-Destruction of Bill Clinton

I think people misread Toni Morrison"s statement about Bill Clinton being the "firs black president", in fact she said: "Clinton displays almost every trope of blackness: single-parent household, born poor, working-class, saxophone-playing, McDonald's-and-junk-food-loving boy from Arkansas." She was not saying he was good for blacks but merely drawing a comparison between Clinton and the stereotypical black person. posted 03/24/2008 at 23:44:16

How Will Hillary's Bosnia "Whopper" Play in the Media?

Mr. Eskow, in addition to the opportunistic media that is becoming nothing more than tabloid, we need to look at the North American right wing"s determination to keep Clinton as a spoiler. From the offices of the very secretive Canadian Prime Minster Harper, we had the leaked memo that cost Obama votes in Ohio, as well as the talking heads in right who are slandering Obama or openly campaigning for Clinton (Rush Limbaugh, Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough to name a few). posted 03/21/2008 at 23:38:08

Another Bill Clinton Moment On The Campaign Trail

In reading this I am reminded of the English poet and essayist, Samuel Johnson"s indictment of false patriotism when he said: "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." posted 03/22/2008 at 00:53:10
