Scalia's 2nd Amendment Punt

That's how to do it, put up a specious argument, nukes, and kick the snot out of it. Bearing arms has meant small arms ever since the 2nd was written. Small arms are more than sufficient to create the cold war MAD (mutually assured destruction) with a "tyrannical" government. You conveniently ignore the machine gun tax act which places certain restrictions on full automatic weapons without banning them. In fact, you beat a dead horse, enthusiastically. Odd arguments for an accomplished lawyer, unless simple "winning" is the only objective. posted 07/07/2008 at 22:12:00

Scalia's Choice: More Deaths to Defend the Constitution

There is something really wrong with this collective right argument that just doesn't seem to matter to its proponents as a historical fact, the SC has never ruled on it until now. The government has had countless opportunities to bring forward such a proposal, it has not. Machine guns are not banned, they are regulated, strongly, but not banned. The government had such an opportunity with public feeling strongly against machine guns when they were subjected to the tax act and the government's response was a regulation that could be complied with in a reasonable manner to avoid infringement.

This collect right assertion is nonsense and the historical record clearly shows it. posted 06/29/2008 at 20:08:11

False Obama Muslim Rumor Spread Quickly And Widely Throughout The Internet

In fact atheism is the belief or faith that there is no god, agnoticism is essentially it is unprovable and therefor unimportant. posted 06/28/2008 at 18:26:50

After Heller, The Gun Lobby's "Slippery Slope" Is Gone; Reasonable Regulations Ahead

Miller decision ruled that a sawed off shot gun was not applicable as a militia weapon, no membership was implied, collective versus individual application was never mentioned posted 06/29/2008 at 00:20:29

I'll Trade You the 2nd Amendment for the 4th

Pah,
This isn't about left or right, it is about authoritarianism. I may be left of Cenk and I find this ruling flawed in fact if not in result. Many of my activist Democratic friends are gun owners and supporters of the 2nd as an individual right. I am, personally, about the expansion of liberties rather than their narrowing, and the 4th is high on my list. Conservatives applaud and liberals cry? Not so. Thanks for reinforcing a stereotype that costs us votes and credibility. posted 06/28/2008 at 18:10:58

McCain: World War III Would Justify Draft

Oddly enough Reuters chose a 6/7 article of mine for Blogburst blogs to go with this article, War and John McCain. The article has to do with the experience of warfare. posted 06/25/2008 at 15:42:15

Giving the "Daughter Test" to Mainstream Media

If you just found out that political campaigning isn't fair you've lived in a cave. The media is not your friend, male or female and the gaffe will be relentlessly played and analysed. If the Hillary campaign taught your daughter anything it should be that a woman can run a stinking campaign and lose. You want excuses, sorry. I like the lesson you seem to want to teach your daughter, that incompetence is trumped by excuses if you're female, that losing isn't losing if you're a woman it must be cheating.

You claim the right to come out and play in a rough game and then don't like the fact that it is rough? It is a rough game and you'd better bring nerves of steel and a strong game face to play with. If you want to stake out territory on issues like experience you'd better be able to back it, if you want to claim judgement your record better reflect it. Whining is damned unattractive. posted 06/17/2008 at 05:25:05

I'm Not a Cry-Baby, I'm Not

Better angels?
If you follow her actual record back though Whitewater (not the (R) made up stuff) you find a continuous thread through the Primary of short term thinking and actions for short term gain. There is an actual concrete record available to anyone. That has been my one problem with Sen Clinton.

You have made something out of a politician that she was not, you have made her a reflection of yourself. Some people do exactly the same thing with the politician named Obama and they are just as wrong as you, Mr Gerard. There is nothing new in this phenomenon, and everytime it doesn't work out the "victims" swear never again - and it still goes on.

Like any institution that deals with power or money, American politics is a flawed system, these people have thrived sufficiently in a flawed system to be able to run for President - and you believe what about them? Both have some very admirable qualities and that's what you have and policies and you get along with it. posted 06/08/2008 at 22:21:08

Hillary Loses Again

Tears? This is an endorsement not a funeral for a hero. If you have such a personal stake in a candidate you've missed something in your political education. I might be able work up a liking for a candidate and I have and will work my tail off for them in elections, but what is this identification thing? These are politicians auditioning for a job, not messiahs.

I got tears in my eyes from Obama's "victory" speech, that a black man could be a major Party nominee, I'm assuming that I'd have had tears that a women could be a major Party nominee. This was going to be a historic nomination one way or the other, but that certainly doesn't mean it is the death of women's ... anything.

These tears you write of betray something about your thinking, something I find unattractive. If you were a close personal friend of Hillary's with real stake in her feelings I could understand this. Your tears make this about more than politics, this enters an entirely strange arena, this makes the loss about you in some form. Maybe you need to ask yourself some questions about this personal indentification with a politician. posted 06/07/2008 at 18:53:08

Hillary and Bill Behaving Badly

There are an astonishing number of arguements for why Hillary will not try to mess up the 08 election. There is just one for why she would - she is an egomaniac. No candidate is not egotistical, they do propose to lead.

There is nothing but poitical suicide for Hillary in an attempt to jam up the works of the Democratic Party and she and all those around her know that. posted 06/04/2008 at 15:35:28
