Hooray for Barney Frank! He is so smart and brave--and I always consider his opinion on a given subject before formulating my own. As a "straight" and senior woman, whose life has been devoted to the study of human behavior, I am confident that within the next few years, sufficient evidence will have accumulated to prove that homosexuality has a genetic basis, and is simply one component of the many that contribute variety to the human race. One should no more be castigated or discriminated against for this than for, say, having red hair, being well coordinated or tall or short. It's unfortunate that Religion (which backs off ever so resentfully as Science slowly zaps one tenet after another) has a horrid time letting go of its myths-- causing misery, feelings of inferiority ( even murders and suicides) to an innocent population. For Justice Scalia, I'm afraid that, his religion has pervaded his fat cells. He, like so many who do not have his elevated status and power, cannot jump over himself to render a fair decision in cases which involve religiously forbidden fruit. I hope a time will come when the scales of justice are not weighted down by the burden of religious mythology.
