Obama's Faux Flip-Flop: He Hasn't Shifted On Iraq (At Least Not Yet)

Why doesn't the mainstream media cover the Concerned Local Citizens groups - CLCs - the U.S. created in Iraq. Starting in May of 2007 the U.S. government began paying 70,000 Iraqi insurgents $10 per person per day to quit shooting at our soldiers and to become our paid temporary allies. Doesn't that coincide with when the surge started working? So is the surge working or is bribery working. This includes former members of al-Qaida in Iraq. What happens if someone else offers them more money?

Barack Obama Quietly Visits Wounded War Veterans

Obama's visiting veterans?

McCain is a veteran himself. Even though he and his wife make over $6 million per year, McCain receives $58,358 in tax-free military disability pension at a rate of 100%. But that's okay because he earned that and he wants our current troops and veterans to receive good benefits too.

No, wait. He opposed the Webb GI Bill because he thought it would harm retention. And God knows we can't have our American soldiers leaving the military to get educations just because they survived dodging bullets for a few years - not when we need boots on the ground.

Let's look at some of McCain's other votes regarding troops and veterans: http://www.StopThinkVote.com/votes.html

Hmm. Not so good. Maybe McCain is the one who should be heading to Walter Reed this weekend so he can tell our troops why he chooses not to support them.

But that's okay, the military is only a small segment of society. It's not like we're going to reinstate the draft or anything:

Here's McCain's problem: because he's been around so long, the mainstream media doesn't appear to be interested in re-vetting him for newer voters. How many people even know what the Keating 5 Scandal, his first wife, his recent questionable land deals, his graduation from the bottom 1% of his class from Annapolis or that he lost 5 military aircraft?

They aren't aware either of his voting record showing a dismal lack of support for our troops and veterans, though millionaire McCain has no problem accepting nearly $60,000 a year, tax free, in military disability pension at a rate of 100%. He has every right to that, even if he doesn't need the money, but our troops and veterans today certainly deserve the same.

Are we winning or is it the fact that the U.S. government is paying 70,000 Iraqi insurgents - including Al-Qaeda in Iraq - $10 per person per day to stop shooting at our troops? Implemented in May 2007, the military now calls those "deals" the Concerned Local Citizens program or simply, CLCs. It's a somewhat abstract euphemism. The CLC program turns groups of former insurgents, including fighters for al-Qaida in Iraq, into paid, temporary allies of the U.S. military.

2: Number of times McCain has been married. He left his first wife for Cindy.

100: The percentage McCain has voted with Bush as of May 15, 2008.
1,173: The number of pages in McCain's medical history for just 8 years (2000-2008).
12: The number of U.S. Army captions that served in Iraq and advised the White House in October last year that we will have to reinstate the draft in America to succeed in Iraq.
95: The percentage McCain voted with Bush in 2007.
85,060: The number of Iraqi CIVILIANS killed in Iraq since we went to war.

Veteran suicides are rising steeply and a U.S. health official says suicides may end up outnumbering combat deaths. The military keeps lowering standards for recruits just to meet recruiting goals. Beginning in 2005 Army officials were told to not get rid of recruits just because of little things like drug abuse, alcohol. poor fitness and pregnancy.

As for lower quality men and women, the military is already accepting them. They have repeatedly had to lower their standards to meet recruiting goals. Their previous goal was that 90% of enlistees have high school diplomas. For the third year in a row, that has dropped.

He CANNOT have them to try to establish democracies in countries that have had the same way of life for thousands of years and do not want America cramming our ideology down their throats and expecting them to establish democracies in a matter of years. Their are more effective ways to help countries achieve democracy than military force.

There are numerous signs that our country is heading toward reinstating the draft - but many people are so concerned with bickering over the candidates they are missing them.

Military and elected officials are calling more and more for reinstating the draft and yet many will be shocked and outraged when this finally happens. Arm yourself with the facts:

"My friends, I will have an energy policy which will eliminate our dependence on oil from Middle East that will then prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East." John McCain

I will not allow my sons to risk their lives because Americans would prefer to be energy hogs rather than making the sacrifices necessary to quit our addiction to foreign oil.

There are just wars and unjust wars.

Our recent actions in the middle east have made us less safe and more of a target of terrorist attacks.

Your mentality of "If your country calls you, go" without regard for reasons of war is exactly why the Nazis were so successful. posted 06/17/2008 at 15:39:30

McCain's Secret, Questionable Record

You make my point for me - that's exactly why they fought. And perhaps you can't read, but I clearly stated I support the troops as a whole. My grandfathers both fought in WWII, a justifiable war. I also support and have respect for the majority of troops sent off to senseless wars like Iraq. Thouugh episodes like Abu Ghraib clearly shows that not all of them are above reproach.

Some of us are capable of viewing issues in more shades than black and white.

And as the mother of two young sons, I use my spine to question my government's errors.

But I'm sure to someone like you, it is impossible to find one's nation less than perfect and still love and respect it. You sound just like those who call anyone who questions our government anti-American. posted 06/19/2008 at 14:18:20
That is the most ignorant bunch of BS I've read recently. So unless we're served in the military or been POWs, we can't discuss those issues? Brilliant. Following that logic anyone who hasn't attended medical school or worked as a physician shouldn't discuss health care. Those who haven't attended law school or practiced as attorney shouldn't discuss the law.

And serving in the military and having POW status do not automatically render sainthood upon McCain, nor qualify him to be president.

And "shut your mouths until you have anything logical or pro-American to say"? Ironic, as logic is obviously beyond you. The last time I looked, the U.S. Constitution still allows freedom of speech, despite the Republican efforts over the last 8 years to shred that document.

Intelligent people are quite able to love this country and still see it flaws and work for change. We are also capable of supporting our troops while seeing and discussing the current problems in the military.

You're right. The average person in America knows more about Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears than our nation. It is best to speak in sound bites.

You are right! John McCain served in the military and was a POW for 5 years. We, the people, have NO RIGHT to question anything about this man's character, judgement, service, votes, records at all. His service and former POW status make him a vaulted saint and automatically qualify him to lead our nation. You people should all be ashamed of yourselves and shut up now!

The admiral story seems a little suspect. I know his father and grandfather were admirals, but McCain graduated 894 out of 899 cadets at Annapolis and is a reverse ace - he lost five planes. He was a regular member of Annapolis' Century Club regularly having over 100 demerits for misconduct and admits to spending more time in strip clubs and bars than studying flight manuals.

Obama Hires Solis Doyle: A Bad Omen For VP Hillary

I believe it was the Clintons that said she was incompentent. It wouldn't be surprising if she was merely a scapegoat. Those initial losses had to be somebody's fault. posted 06/17/2008 at 00:04:40

Usually there is a presumptive nominee much sooner than this. McCain is already getting his team together. Obama may have some catching up to do in this respect. Plus it lets the Clinton supporters know that the VP spot is not likely for Hillary and gives them time time to get used to that idea. posted 06/16/2008 at 22:41:46
I have to disagree. Why wait longer and allow ardent Hillary supporters to hold out hope for VP only to be upset again later. Rip that band-aid off! posted 06/16/2008 at 22:39:29
