Ben Lyons & Ben Mankiewicz Take Over "At The Movies" From Ebert & Roeper

Thank God, we finally have two white guys talking about movies. You just don't see enough of that on television. How "edgy." The best movie show on these days is Sunday Morning Shootout on AMC. The thing that made Siskel and Ebert great (it wasn't as good without them both) was that a) they professionally didn't like each other and b) they had contrasting tastes in films so that a movie that was given a two thumbs up, actually meant something.
Too often these days, critics overpraise "little films" to hype them and inflate their own importance. When Roeper said Forgetting Sarah Marshal was an "all-time comedy," he completely lost me. posted 07/22/2008 at 16:50:16

The next convention: who should keynote at DNC? Hillary? Ted Kennedy? An up-n-comer? Answer in comments.

Sebelius or Ted Kennedy. posted 07/18/2008 at 17:42:32

Obama, Stay the Course!

Mr. Sutherland,
I too have been disappointed by Obama since he clinched the election. He was leading McCain at that point, so I really don't understand why he needs or needed to move to the center. We like Obama because he's not like other pols. I really hope he isn't trying to woo Hillary supporters by adopting her two-faced style of politicking.
On another point, how you haven't been nominated for an Oscar is a crime. Love your work. posted 07/07/2008 at 16:15:39

Brinkley Trial Day 2: Christie Sobs On Stand

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't she cheat on Billy Joel when they had a kid? The husband is a sleaze no doubt, but I really wonder why this is being dragged through court unless someone wants the publicity. posted 07/03/2008 at 15:08:45

Hugh Hefner Biography: Family Foursomes And A Gay Tryst

I know a lot of people have a problem with his lifestyle, but I've never heard of anyone who knew him say bad things about the guy. Even his many, many, many, many exes. And he's been a generous benefactor of dozens of liberal causes. posted 06/23/2008 at 14:36:01

News Flash: Anchor Stands Against "Unfair" Campaign Spending

I really liked Charlie Gibson, but Charles Gibson seems to be the reincarnation of William F. Buckley. The guy seems out of touch. But I understand where he's coming from. Journalists are used to covering politics with the template of the GOP being big-money, hardball campaigners, while the Dems are underfunded, party of "the people" who would rather sing Kumbaya than run an attack ad. posted 06/24/2008 at 15:10:04

Why Reality TV Will Soon Die a Healthy Death

The funny thing is that as reality shows continue to overproduce their subjects to the point of lameness, they are making viewers realize if they want to see some fake drama, they might as well get good fake drama. posted 06/23/2008 at 14:45:07

When McCain Drops Out

While interesting in theory, it won't happen because nobody else will be able to beat Obama. If they could have, they would have won the GOP nomination.
Even Colin Powell would struggle getting in this late. There is nobody who could satisfy all of the fractured elements of the GOP. posted 06/16/2008 at 18:14:27

Keith Olbermann Backlash Fueled By Declaration Of Katie Couric As "Worst Person In The World"

Olbermann is great and a needed voice on the air, maybe the best writer with a TV show. That said, I have a fear that KO will have a Tom Cruise moment ala Jerry McGuire, and write himself out of his gig. He's got a track record of burning hot, fast and then poof.
Anyone who has seen A Face In The Crowd with Andy Griffith, knows what I'm talking about. posted 06/15/2008 at 14:45:33

Katherine Heigl Rejects Emmy Possibility, Slams "Grey's" Material

Memo to Ms. Heigl, you can withdraw from Oscar consideration for 27 Dresses as well. I like Heigl, but throwing the people who have made you a bankable actress (Shonda Rhimes and Judd Apatow) under the proverbial bus, won't likely encourage others to want to work with you.
My guess? She'll be on a FOX sitcom in two years. posted 06/12/2008 at 16:38:28

Jon Favreau Makes Plea About "Iron Man 2"

I was really happy to see Favreau score big with Iron Man. I've always figured when they make these big budget special effects movies they plot it for at least a trilogy. Don't they have a number of comic books to base a story on? And they still need to give Ghostface Killah something to do. My only surprise is that Favreau is surprised, he's been around Hollywood long enough to realize what doofs they are.
And if Favreau is reading this, I'm available to write the script. I'll give him a good rate and get it turned around by September. posted 06/10/2008 at 16:30:43
