Grew up in northern Illinois -- along wetlands outside of Aurora. Graduated Oberlin College (sociology, cum laude '63) Attended Chicago Theological Seminary, majoring in social ethics and involved in civil rights, community organizing, draft resistance, early opposition to Vietnam War, and part of Harold Washington's mayoral campaign.
Worked for American Friends Service Committee, and later joined Quakers; active in Illinois Yearly Meeting, 57th St. Meeting, and Columbia (MO) Friends. Living in central Missouri since 1996. Elder care/advocacy for late father and inlaws. Former chair of city's Human Rights Commission. Organized saving historic Arrow Rock from intrusion by massive factory hog farm (www.preserveparks.org).
