Punished for the Truth

"elitist" is the new "liberal". It's just another distracting smear word. You can race through a small, devastated town in your limo cavalcade, or fly over in your private jet - and you're "one of us" as long as you mumble the apropriate buzz words: "jobs, god, hard work". But the moment you display one iota of intelligence or insight or deeper understanding about any situation, you're an "elitist snob". Talk about condescending! posted 04/12/2008 at 13:29:38
Yeah, right on! C'mon guys, just keep telling us what we want to hear as you ship our jobs oversees! Just keep telling us we're good little Americans. We're apropriately patriotic because we got our yellow sticker on our SUV's! Because people like Maryland have made it perfectly clear. We CAN'T handle the truth. posted 04/12/2008 at 13:24:03

WELL MEANING MY ASS

This is not to diminish what happens to black Americans every day in this country, but I am a young-ish white female, and I have been harassed numerous times by cops, when I was doing nothing wrong. I befriended a girl at work - a year or two older than me, but also white female who has had even worse experiences with cops. Neither of us are like gorgeous types, so we don't think we were being harassed because the cops were looking for dates, or anything like that, and my worst experiences have been with female cops. I don't know why we were treated like we were, except to say it must be institutional. Once they get that uniform and all the goodies that go along like a gun and a taser - they become powermad monsters, just looking for an opportunity to intimidate and abuse. Or maybe the profession just attracts these people who already have these traits. Either way, I don't see that anything will ever be done about it, so we will go about our suffering - never being helped by cops, but always cowering and trembling - while innocent - when they are around. posted 04/12/2008 at 14:57:10

Pushing Clinton: CNN's Push Poll on Obama's Remarks

Clinton's excuse for the job loss and her unablility to fulfill her campaign promise? Oh, well, she was expecting a Democratic president! So, basically, Clinton the "fighter" was unable to accomplish her goals in the face of opposition who wouldn't roll over for her, and was unable to work with the opposition to achieve for her state. Ooops. Failed again. posted 04/12/2008 at 14:05:48
inelegantly worded, but beautifully said. Thanks.

I will support the truth. It may be ugly at times, or painful, but I support the truth.

If the truth of Obama loses to the lies and spin and propaganda and hypocrisy of Clinton or McCain, sobeit. In that case, we are so far gone, what is left of the country to save, anyway? posted 04/12/2008 at 13:56:20
YOU are a troll, and therefore nobody takes what you have to say seriously. However, if the TRUTH loses in this election because the people are too ignorant or too brainwashed or too beaten down by the lies and the spin of the Right and their propaganda arm the MSM, sobeit. I will accept that the truth no longer stands for anything and that this country is over. And by the way, if you're not bitter and if you're not angry, then you haven't been paying attention. And that brings me back to my first point. posted 04/12/2008 at 13:51:24
Okay, America, what's it gonna be? Are we gonna wake up here and take serious stock of the damage done to our lives and our economy and our country in the last two decades? Can we REALLY handle the truth? Or are we, once again, going to submit to the talking points, and swallow the pablum served up on a spun silver platter by the MSM as "news" while they emphatically tell each and every one of us exactly how WE feel about it?

I'm outraged! I know I'm outraged, because Lou Dobbs tells me I am outraged.

Are we still the land of the free and the home of the brave? Are we brave enough to confront these painful truths - which seemed as natural and obvious to me as my own breath when I heard Obama speak them? Or are we going to shrink from the light because we're afraid of being called "elitist" and other silly words by people whose job it is to poll and pidgeon hole us to death? posted 04/12/2008 at 13:45:16

There's nothing ironic in calling a duck a duck. It's on record now, honey. The Administration told us almost a thousand lies to get us into this illegal and immoral occupation. Are you trying to say that every single American troop in this war is completely innocent? Have there been NO innocent Iraqis harmed by our bombs and our non-Arabic speaking raids? Okay, what about innocent American troops harmed by this war? How about American troops who rape and abuse their FELLOW female American troops? Are those soldiers blameless too? Why American Airlines' Big Public Sad Meltdown is Good

What, exactly, makes you think there will be better service when this debacle is done? Sure, there will be fewer companies, and fewer options and a more expensive ticket. But without regulation and without accountability - the airlines will still run late, treat you crappy, charge you a ton, stripsearch you, and call the cops to taser you when you get the least bit snippy at the counter. Why shouldn't they? Who will hold them accountable? Customer service and treating the customer with respect have gone the way of the dinosaur. The only thing left is how to squeeze more productivity from less workers - to claim that end of the year bonus to buy another private jet. After all, flying commercial is just so horrible these days. posted 04/11/2008 at 18:38:28

Clintons' Squabbles: Not Funny

Puh leeze. Some of us - regardless of what Clinton supporters always "suggest" - are intelligent enough to examine the evidence and the previous facts, and extrapolate and infer based on the record.

For instance: We KNOW both Clintons were always in favor of NAFTA. Bill Clinton actively campaigned for it as President, and Hillary actively campaigned for it as First Lady. We have her meeting schedule and several quotes on record to prove it. Fact.

We KNOW that Hillary Clinton has recently claimed she was NEVER in favor of NAFTA. Based on the evidence, we also KNOW that this claim is a LIE. So. What we've got is a Hillary Clinton who favors large free trade deals, but claims otherwise to our faces.

We KNOW Mark Penn has run her entire campaign, and is still playing a large part in the campaign and his JOB was to promote and pass CAFTA. He got paid a lot of money to do that job. And apparently Clinton thinks he's pretty good at what he does - and she's counting on him to ultimately be successful at what he does, right?

I think we could reasonably assume based on the facts we have that Clinton -despite what she claims now about NAFTA and CAFTA is in favor of both of these trade deals - and we have every reason based on the evidence not to trust what she's saying to our faces to get elected. posted 04/11/2008 at 17:52:56

What We Can Learn From Eight Florida Teens

Nobody is to blame except the parents. Music doesn't make kids violent. Neither do video games. Abusive and neglectful parents do. The parents should be held just as accountable as their kids. Society is not to blame - the delinquents these kids are raised to be contribute to the deterioration of the society (it is the symptom, not the disease) but society does not cause them to be delinquent.

There have always been bullies - even before youtube. So kids are now bullying in the public sphere. So what? They were still just as violent when the only witness was the victim.

Youtube and myspace, etc are NOT the problem. Irresponsible parents and a system that leaves kids behind and doesn't watch out for them is the problem.

Watch ONE episode of Super Nanny to see what I mean. Kids with improper parenting can become monsters - literally. All it takes is the correct parenting with apropriate limits, discipline, incentive, positive reinforcement, encouragement and love to turn kids from monsters into caring human beings.

This behavior is not the failure of the schools or of society in general. It is the failure of the parents and the parents' lack of knowledge of how to raise a child. Period. posted 04/11/2008 at 18:09:49

Even if they were simply misguided, and were only trying to make me "safer". This is not a war. There is no opposing army that we are fighting. This is an occupation. There is no win or lose. There is only continue to occupy or cease to occupy.

The Iraqis live in Iraq. They will live there forever and they will never forgive us and will never stop fighting us as long as we occupy their homes and their lands. Grievances are handed down from generation to generation - we will never be able to make it right, and we will never be able to make them forget what we have done to their homes and their loved ones. That's just the way it is - it's human nature and it can not be changed by wishes or the best of intentions or the most sincerest of apologies.

We can flatten the entire region and kill them ALL - so there will be nobody left to teach their grandchildren what America did to them and to teach them to hate us for it.

Iraqi Bloggers Consider McCain

Wow. Some great perspective here. It's interesting that outsiders - foreigners at that - can see the truth of our "leaders" better than we can. Well, predictable actually. The statement that we have replaced Hussein with a thousand Sadaams who have free ruthless reign of the country is stark - and all of America should hear this. We should all learn the truth of what we have loosed in Iraq.

I believe it's true that all America knows at this time in the world is "muscles". I fervently hope that Obama is elected and his reasoned wisdom and cool head can begin to convince the rest of the world that despite our recent warmonger leaders we prefer to live in peace as opposed to the flexing of muscles. I'm sure they feel that way too. Most of all of our leaders are the powermad warmongers. The rest of us normal folk just want to eek out a life for ourselves and find what pleasure and love we can. It's Time to Challenge General Petraeus

One other question, if you don't mind. There was a lot of bluster and talk (especially from good ole Joe Lieberman) about Iran training and equipping the "insurgents".

Well, we KNOW that many Iraqis were extensively trained and well equipped by US because they promised to fight alongside us, in the Iraqi army (or whoever is supposed to be the "good guys"). Then we KNOW that after they were equipped and given the best military training by the best of the military (US), many Iraqis took those weapons and that training and funding, and went back to fighting with the "bad guys" against us.

So, does Patraeus know what the percentage is of US-trained and equipped "bad guys" vs. Iran-trained and equipped "bad guys"? It would be interesting to know. It would be interesting to know if they even know. posted 04/09/2008 at 08:50:38

The Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Crocker Hearings and What the Surge in Fact Proves

All very good points. Don't forget that ethnic cleansing and mass exodus also has a lot to do with reduced violence. So many have fled or have already been killed. When there are less fish in the barrel, it's only natural that you will start to catch fewer and fewer of them, no? Our troops are indeed brave for following the suicidal orders they've been given. But I have no doubt that if the Iraqis wanted to (and we hadn't bought them off), they could have kept the violence at the same level as pre-surge - as it seems to be returning to now. posted 04/09/2008 at 05:26:51

Historian Sean Wilentz And The Latest Nutty Scenario From Clinton Supporters

Did Senator Clinton not have enough time to study the rules of the Democratic nominating process, and design a campaign accordingly? Did she not get enough exposure to the way the Democrats run things during her husband's two runs for president? I thought she had all this experience! Well, I guess even with all of that experience, with two successful runs under her belt - she still can't get it together enough to win without cheating.

That does not give me confidence in her ability to run a country - who's to say she won't just start changing the rules of the country when she's president and they don't suit her tastes? Kinda like the president we have now. Oh, look. Another way in which she's just like the Republicans - go figure.

She had the name recognition. She had the connections. She had the head start. She had her husband's political machine already in full swing. And she still lost. And ran a dirty, nasty campaign to boot. posted 04/08/2008 at 07:06:47

Standing Sexual Politics on Its Head

Sorry, but you're throwing out a straw man argument. NOBODY on Obama's side has any problem whatsoever with a fair revote. What we object to is exactly what Clinton has been calling for - for the delegates to be seated as-is. There is NO way anyone could possibly claim the MI vote was fair or representative, since Obama supporters were unable to vote for their candidate of choice. NO Obama supporter has ever been against a fair re-vote. But we are realistic that the states have neither the will nor the money to pull it off. Even Obama has been working toward a fair resolution and compromise. But Clinton wants those delegates as-is, and I don't see her saying she's willing to negotiate. Her way or the highway - as usual. Yes, he survived torture. The human survival instinct is very strong and will kick in for any human, regardless of their "hero" status or bravery. The only other option was suicide, and I doubt his captors would have allowed that. The men currently in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo are surviving torture too. Does that make them brave war heroes that we should all be proud of? posted 04/04/2008 at 07:12:24

Clinton Adviser Mark Penn Meets To Discuss Free-Trade Pact That Hillary Opposes

Can you imagine if it had been Obama whose chief campaign advisor - who was also a lobbyist - was meeting with Columbia and talking up CAFTA? It would be NAFTA-gate all over again! She'd be screaming "SHAME on you Barack Obama!" to the rafters for weeks! Chalk up one more for Clinton in the hypocrisy column.

Mark Penn is the democratic equivalent of Karl Rove - they look the same, they give off the same creepy vibe, they use the same campaign tactics and they're both corporatists. Keep this man as far away from the White House as possible, please! posted 04/04/2008 at 06:46:29

Bullying Billy Wolfe - Part I

My heart breaks for this kid. I firmly believe we ought to have REAL school "counselors" in all schools and all grades. REAL counselors - like psychologists, who can call in the kids and the parents, and get to the root cause of bullying and other destructive behaviors. Most bullies act out because they are either mimicking behavior learned at home (dad bullies son) or because they feel inadequate in some way themselves. If we could have honest early intervention, we just might be able to help the bullied AND the bully. Also, there should be NO tolerance for violent behavior as well. ONE beating should get a kid at least a night in a holding cell - there's no reason they should be treated any differently from any other criminal, and they should learn that this society does NOT tolerate violent behavior, no matter the age. Parents need to be held accountable - and possibly be given counseling as well. We need to take this issue WAY more seriously than we are - for those poor kids and for our kids who may become innocent casualties one day. Is there a way to contact this kid to give him some show of support - to try to get the message to him that some of us have been there and share his pain - and to hang in there because this unfortunate and ruthless time WILL pass? posted 04/03/2008 at 19:46:13

It's Not Over 'Til the 40-lbs Overweight, Smart Lady Sings

I started early as well. Even though I was a champion athlete (swimmer - which meant I was always in a bathingsuit) at a very early age, my memories are FULL of friends and strangers alike always calling me fat. I look back at pictures of myself then - I was SO not fat! What I would give to look like that now! But 30 years of yo-yo dieting, deprivation, low self esteem, never feeling adequate has made me really, truly fat. The first time I went to the doctor pleading for help (highschool), he told me I should lose weight the way he did - by using the treadmill all day and eating only pickles and rice cakes. Other than that advice, he refused to help me. I left the doctor's office in tears - and though I've recently lost 60 lbs (15 years later), I'm constantly struggling and still always negative about myself, and every single damn day of my life is a struggle. It's depressing and exhausting, and I wish I could be happy with myself the way I am now, the way I was yesterday, and the way I will be tomorrow. I wish. posted 04/03/2008 at 19:56:36

What's Clinton's Story?

It's not the story per se. It's the pattern into which the story falls. One of over-hyping credentials, lying and hypocrisy, plus stubbornness. The story is but one more example to hilight her pattern of being disingenuous. posted 04/02/2008 at 08:45:07
This has allowed the negative narratives -- the ambitious, enabling, heartless woman who will do anything for power -- to dominate and as such, her motivates are almost always questioned, her positions seen as the product of convenience rather than principle and personal moments interpreted as calculating.

Huh. What makes you think this is NOT her story? Just because it's a negative narrative, doesn't mean it's false. I used to support Clinton. But that was before this race. Before I knew her better, and I believe she HAS shown her true self. And my personal opinion that has formed while watching her campaign is that I don't like it one bit. posted 04/02/2008 at 08:40:10

See, this kind of tripe is just as annoying as the constantly repeated themes of : McCain is a straight talker and a maverick, or McCain knows what he's talking about when it comes to foreign policy.

WHAT problems has Clinton solved? HOW did that "methodical" approach to problem solving work out for her during the BIGGEST test and problem that was given to her (healthcare) to solve? Oh yeah. She FAILED. She SCREWED the pooch and the people! She FAILED MISERABLY!

100 Years in a Country That Had Nothing to Do with 9/11...

If you're looking for differences, how about this: One candidate calls John McCain out for the ignorant warmonger fool that he is. The other candidate praises him constantly and assures us he's passed the "CINC threshold". One candidate had the judgement and foresight to oppose this war - and accurately predicted everything that would happen as a result of this war. The other candidate voted in lockstep for this war, and even after all the lies came out, and everything that's happened - voted to enable Bush to do it again to Iran.

How's that for some differences? posted 04/01/2008 at 07:05:20

Considering they take turns attacking and smearing Obama & Clinton on alternate days, while consistently talking up McCain, praising McCain, excusing McCain's blunders, and ignoring McCain's hypocrisy - I'm afraid no matter what happens, we'll be stuck w/ another Republican in office. It's gotten to the point now where I'm just trying to decide: Do I want Clinton to lose to McCain, so I can say "I told you so" or do I want Obama to lose to McCain and have to deal with all the "I told you so"s directed at me?

Campaign To Beat McCain

Oh, from your mouth to Obama's, Clinton's, and Dean's ears!!!

It would be especially effective, because McCain would have to try to hit back at both of them. This would take energy and money to campaign against a two pronged tag-team attack at once!

Obama could take the kitchen sink, Clinton could get the master bath sink AND the guest bath sink, and they could start hurling them straight at McCain's head. I'm a feminist, and like you I decry any and all talk that is sexist OR racist, and wish to make my candidate choice based on facts and policy and the issues. But I gotta say that hypocrisy is a BIG issue for me, as we've had so much of that in the last 7 years. And I've seen a whole lot of hypocrisy coming from the Clinton campaign and their supporters. The whole article smacked of a hit piece. After all, once again we were fed the talking point that it has been the Obama campaign on the attack. Hillary Clinton has repeatedly LIED about Obama and his record in this campaign. Period. The latest lie came as an attack on Obama saying he was a professor. She claimed he wasn't - and attacked him for it.

But he was.

Gee, if someone lied about me, I think I'd be justified in calling them a liar. So per the article: Clinton spreads lies about Obama, Obama calls her on it - and HE is the one on the attack. Right.
And I just don't believe that Edwards or Richardson would be so petty as to insist on a cabinet position for an endorsement. So we are to believe that both Edwards and Richardson were begging to support Clinton and begging to work in her Administration - then in a jealous fit of rage and rejection they flipped over to Obama? Right.

And when it comes to snipergate it's HARD to blame them? Interesting idea, it could work. However, who has been telling the pundits that voters are outraged that their votes won't count? Or could it be it's the pundits telling the voters they are outraged? Because I'm a Florida Democrat - and I'm not particularly outraged that my vote didn't count (I did not vote for Obama, but I would in a revote). And I know so many people who didn't even bother to vote, because they were following the "votes won't count" rules. So they don't particularly care about the delegates either.
Not a single Democrat I know has told me they won't vote Democratic in the general if the delegates aren't seated. In fact, they're MORE energized and excited to get out the Democratic vote in November, to make up for not being counted this time. WE know who stole the vote from us. It was the Republican controlled FL legislature, and we're itchin' for some payback.
So WHO is outraged? Well, my guess is it's ONLY the press telling us that, and some Clinton supporters (because they're desperate).

Which leads me to believe that if Obama did make this move - the MSM would indeed go wild. They'd go wild and start attacking him for BREAKING THE RULES! Democrats just can't play by the rules! And I'm sure they'd manage to work Reverend Wright into the story somehow too.

MSM, Republicans and Clintons want conflict and infighting. They will create it if they have to. posted 03/29/2008 at 13:49:33

Why Have A Union?

Capitalism is Supply and demand - the company can charge you more for the supply if your demand is higher. HOWEVER, capitalism works both ways. Meaning, the consumer AND the worker can bargain too. The consumer can take their demand elsewhere (as they should) if they can find a better quality product somewhere else (toyota, anyone?), or the SAME quality product for less (honda, anyone?). Also, the worker should be able to bargain with the employer based on their production and value to the company, since there would be NO production and NO profit at all without the workers!
This is NOT the way it works without unions. My dad works for the post office, and they have a union - which can barely keep up to make sure my dad is treated with a modicum of respect. The company takes terrible advantage of him even with the union doing what little they can to make sure he is treated fairly. The management sit on their asses all day dreaming up ways to squeeze more productivity out of the harried workers for the same pay. They find all sorts of ways to pad their bottom line and snag their bonuses at the expense of the workers. This is NOT RIGHT! These practices are destroying America! But my dad has a union. So it could be worse: he could be buried alive at the bottom of a mine shaft, right Mr. profit-at-all-costs? posted 03/29/2008 at 00:23:42

Disappointed, yes. To see such a great opportunity for change and to restore power to the People where it belongs, sure. But scared? Not so much. After all - the way Clinton has split the party and worked to promote and elevate McCain over Obama and promote and foster so many lies and distortions about him - I've sort of become resigned. Possibly Clinton will win the nomination. Possibly she'll win the general (though I still believe Obama is the only one who stands a chance against McCain). Possibly McCain will win. Most people in this country know more about the color of Britney Spears's underwear (when she wears it) and Paris's dog than they know about the difference between Sunni and Shia. Even John McCain!

TV is good for only three things: 1. watching people cook / make clothes / model
2. Awesome history programs and lessons on the cosmos and our own planet
3. Fiction. (this includes 24-hr "news" though it's the most poorly written fiction on TV).

Hillary's Bosnia Boast -- Not a Big Deal

So again, Clinton should get a pass for bald faced lying. Again. But three weeks in and we're still smearing and bashing Obama for 30 seconds of angry speech out of a 30 year religious and social career by a guy that's not even Obama.

Translation: Clinton gets a pass for what comes out of her own mouth, which also happened to be a LIE. Obama gets crucified for what comes out of someone else's mouth, most of which also happened to be the truth.

And they say I'M the one drinking the kool aide. Whatever. posted 03/28/2008 at 07:45:22
