McCain Cracks Another Joke About Killing Iranians (VIDEO)

The joke about McCain running for Bush's third term is less a joke these days and more an accurate comparison. It's the same ignorance and high school bully mindset that brought us hits like "Bring 'em On". No wonder the Republican base doesn't believe in evolution. Of any kind. If they don't evolve, why would apes and fish?

When you see it from their point of view...you kind of begin to understand. posted 07/08/2008 at 22:57:36

Memo to Obama: Moving to the Middle is for Losers

I'm with you on that. My vote will not be taken for granted by the Democratic party. They will have to earn it by being more than slightly less bad than the Republican party. They will really have to demonstrate conviction and difference. posted 06/30/2008 at 22:40:03
Your argument isn't persuasive to me, and here's why: Being flexible when you are running for election on your convictions is not appropriate, even as you are running to be President of the entire left, right and center (wherever that is). A leader has to lead with their convictions and hope they inspire people to come to their way of thinking, or at least prefer it to the other candidates. If they get enough votes to win the election, they give it their best shot, and start finding ways to work with Congress and the courts. That is the time for more flexibility and looking for ways to find enough concensus to give your programs legs.

Like someone else said in here, what people really detest is a waffler. posted 06/30/2008 at 21:19:55
Arianna,

Pinpoint perfect, Arianna. What Obama's tactic is doing IF he is pretending toward the middle, is alienating me, someone who would otherwise vote for him. I'm not going to let the two major parties play good cop bad cop with with me anymore. I'll vote for either, if they have the goods, or I'll vote for neither. Not until the national Democratic party stops being pushed around by the Republicans, and shying away from their convictions and the convictions of their constituents. How pathetic is it that I can't say that the Democrats are the anti-war party, or the anti-NAFTA party...when it counts: when bills are put on the floor and votes tallied.

For the first time in my voting life I'm going to tell friends I may not be voting this election. And I'm proud of it.

But I'm done with this nonsense. posted 06/30/2008 at 21:02:24

Right On, General Clark. Do Not Back Down.

Of course he was telling it like it is....phony controversies are the name of the game now. Well summarized, Mr. Soltz, and kudo's to MajorKong for an even more succinct summary: " I can think of a large number of military pilots, myself included, that are not qualified to be President."

Seymour Hersh Exposes New US Covert Operations In Iran (VIDEO)

Inexcusable. The Democrats, that is. I expect Bush Republicans to behave ignorantly and with malice. I don't expect the Democrats to look the other way. They must be pressured to stop yet another historical blunder (this is why Republicans hate intellectuals..i.e. people who study history and learn from it). They like to act without listening to good advice. Bush and Cheney feel in their guts this is the right course, and our Democratic leadership, well, I have no excuse for them. Their party doesn't want this, that much I know.

Side note: Seymour Hersch continues as one of the true great journalists. posted 06/29/2008 at 16:13:01

George Carlin Remembered By Jerry Seinfeld, Joan Rivers, Ben Stiller And More

Goddam I'll miss him. What a genius, in comedy and in truthful observation of the human species.
Ironically, though, his impression of a crab is the visual of him I will take to my grave... Be well, George, and thank you. posted 06/24/2008 at 13:32:40

George Carlin

I've been a life-long fan of George Carlin. I am sad by his death, but heartened by all of the laughs and insights I've gained from years of listening to him. A truly smart, funny, and seemingly decent man. He will be missed by millions, I've no doubt.

And one thing I realized from years of listening to him is the we -his subject- are the real comedians. He was simply verbalizing the absurdity of so much of what we do. Case in point...I will never, ever say "I'm fine" when someone asks me how I'm doing. That stand-up bit killed the temptation to ever again utter such a meaningless reply.

Rest in peace George posted 06/23/2008 at 10:44:01

Unearthed: News of the Week the Mainstream Media Forgot to Report

Michael Reagan is a wing nut. And like most blowhard wingnuts, his position is typical: he'll 'pay for the bullets'....he just won't pull the trigger.

But advocating violence should be the end of an FCC license. That is the line in the sand. posted 06/21/2008 at 08:59:22

O'Reilly Attends Easter Services At Church Led by Ex-Nazi

Wonderful as usual. But I'll be the first to admit that there doesn't seem to be an honest way to engage loudmouths like O'Reilly. It's about taking anything, twisting it like a Gitmo detainee, and presenting it as a gift to a very angry, incurious base of mostly selfish white men. A sacrifice to the goons of ignorance.

I heard Vicki Iseman is a weapons inspector in Iran now, fyi. posted 03/30/2008 at 12:42:55

Top 10 Most Useless Items of Crapola

Maybe for a business. But the point is we have all this crap in our homes and convince ourselves we need it. By buying it, we promote the wasteful creation of more crap. As a consequence, we are fatter, lazier, and more reliant on gizmo's that burn oil, pollute, all for something terribly inconsequential like some leaves. We don't even get the peace of mind and energy that comes from doing physical chores. But perhaps we're so lazy and removed from life now that we don't even know what we're missing, and in that world a personal leaf blower makes sense. posted 03/26/2008 at 18:11:37
I'll vote for less smart and more Indulgent. I know of no baby, including ours, who has aversions to diaper changes from wipes that aren't warmed just so. posted 03/26/2008 at 18:07:00
