I am from California and live in Tennessee. I prefer the words 'liberal' and 'radical' to 'progressive' and I consider myself a rational empiricist. I believe in the importance of moral conviction in politics, but I believe our national debate has become about ideaologies instead of ideas. I believe the kind of gradualism in which the Democratic Party has engaged for years is not enough, and I am frequently disappointed by the political and moral cowardice of the liberal political, media, and intellectual establishment. I believe that if liberals want the Democratic Party to be a liberal party then they must vote for liberal rather than moderate candidates in party primaries. I believe that liberalism needs to adopt a more radical approach to national problem solving and that we need to educate the political center in our direction rather than merely attack the right. I believe we are more often more responsible for our own failures than conservatives, because we fail to truly embrace a genuine, all inclusive liberalism in favor of our own identity politics and fear failure too much to fight for success.
