The Bush Cheney cabal knew full well that Al Queda were not in Iraq. They went in for the oil and to settle an old score (Sadam trying to assasinate Bush I). The point here is that torture is inhumae and when you allow yourself to rationalize it because you are afraid (in this case of terrorists) then you become as bad as the terrorists. Personally when I hear about a government condoning S&M as an approved tactic I can't help but think of The Nazi's and concentration camps.
