Bio
I am a 57 year old caucasian who lives in suburban Dallas-Fort Worth, who is a self-employed white collar professional. I am the father or step-father of six children, ages 16 through 34. I am a grandfather as well.
My college major was Political Science, so I am no stranger to the political process. I grew up in a staunchly pro-DFL family in Minnesota. I was active in Young DFL starting in the Johnson campaign in 1964. In 1968 I volunteered locally first for Gene McCarthy and then for Bobby Kennedy.
The disappointment that followed the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, with the nation bitterly divided over the war, and the really horrible Nixon years that followed effectively killed whatever idealism I and millions of others had. The strange thing is, though, forty years down the road Barack Obama kindles that same kind of idealism and inspiring fire within me. Perhaps even more importantly, he inspires that same kind of hope and passion in all six of my children. For that reason, I have decided to do everything I can to insure that the hopes of this generation are not dashed as ours were forty years ago.
Not this time. We can't let the opportunity slip away this time.
My renewed interest in progressive politics is a homecoming of sorts. In recent decades I have been influenced much more by the political right. I am an evangelical Christian, and for example, a PromiseKeeper and leader. I understand that there are those who would like to paint all evangelicals with the same broad brush, but the truth is that Christ-followers have a much broader range of perspectives than the popular press would have you believe.
I believe that this election is crucial, that we are at a crossroads in our history, that our individual American freedoms as well as the planet God has given into our care are in peril. I believe with all my heart that four more years of the kind of direction we've seen these past eight years would be tragic for the lives of my children and grandchildren.
