Polygamist Ranch Women Give Today Show Interview, Deny Sexual Abuse Claims

Thank goodness she wasn't stuck bearing his children too. I doubt they like the sweaty passed-around crotch of the FLDS geezers either...

The guys who did it are facing hard time....the club is in the cross hairs..they're building a case and getting the runaways help...

Nice try though. posted 04/16/2008 at 23:54:06
Historically, religious texts called for the oppression of women regardless of age of consent. Education, freedom, participation in modern advances, leadership and choice were dangerous to the subjugation of women, and thus, the damnation of those who bucked the system was assured. When religion failed to oppress a majority of women anymore, genetic science tried to, when that fails other nonsense explanations appear.....

I wonder if age of consent would even be a debate today if women were not originally oppressed to believe this nonsense throughout history. How young does a male have to be before it's considered abuse? 12? 10? 7? What's the age of consent for a young boy? Historically or today? Imagine marrying off a 13 year old boy to his 45 year old stepmother who's already bedded his cousins and probably his brothers....weird huh?

"...but that's different...."

If I had a dime every time I heard that..... posted 04/16/2008 at 23:36:17

In my old days working at the lab, I saw similar cases come across our desks. Kids with STD's, teen girls having babies from male relatives....each one worse than the next. Those criminals and enablers received lengthy prison sentences...why is FLDS exempt?
Because it's just girls and it's nobody's business but their own? Why get all upset over pedophile priests then? If sex for salvation is no biggie?

And you're completely correct, the Amish value system is nothing like this and no one bothers them, so the 'religious persecution" crap FLDS levels is bogus. posted 04/16/2008 at 21:09:09
Get those swabs processed.....I love the lab....great stuff they can do nowadays....a couple of weeks and the whole scenario will be clear....The Innocence Project knows how critical DNA swabs are in combination with depositions.....it clears you, or it condemns you...either way I say let the swabs fly. Go DNA!

"The temple also contained multiple locked safes, vaults and desk drawers that authorities sought access to as they searched for records showing alleged marriages of underage girls as young as 12 or 13 to older men and births among the teens. The affidavit unsealed today mentions a 16-year-old girl who has four children......Troopers had arrested two men over the week and charged them with interfering with the search."

Some men will do anything to hang on to their underage sex-fest.....I'm with local law enforcement....ritualized sexual abuse has no place in our society, either for Gawd, Satan, the Easter Bunny, or just for thrill of it....

Bombings kill nearly 60 in Sunni areas of Iraq

It would take a massive campaign and media blitz to get the numbers. But count me as one of the 2 million who would be there. posted 04/16/2008 at 04:03:16
Here's one way they're getting the explosives:

"Bomblets are individual units of cluster bombs and are made of metal. They are shaped like a soft drink can and are packed with high explosives. Cluster bombs contain about 200 small so-called bomblets designed to scatter themselves over a large area, targeting troops and military vehicles.

A written release from the U.N. International Children's Emergency Fund said, "Confusing unexploded ordnance with food places children at huge risk of injury or death. UNICEF urges coalition forces to urgently change the color of these rations."

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/02/sprj.irq.aid.bomblets/index.html

We used the same color wrapping around the rations as for the bomblets. Iran isn't arming them with bombs.. We did. some of our soldiers getting killed could be unexploded bomblets we left along the roads ourselves. Insurgents need only pick a few of them up, toss them in a car, and it's done. Who in congress approved the use of cluster bombs? posted 04/16/2008 at 03:38:25
Good observation. And al Qaeda can get the materials in how?

We're all over the country, including satellite-wise. Nothing gets in or out without us knowing.

Our Congress approved the use of cluster bombs. I wonder what for. It seems to me they're getting used against us somehow.....

I wonder how that's happening...... posted 04/16/2008 at 03:07:45
How are these explosives getting in?

We have troops all over Iraq. They have been subject to searches and have been shocked and awed into compliance. We armed their security forces with old rifles from some crackpot company here in the US probably, we have their borders covered with troops and satellite surveillance....they're having trouble getting food, gas, oil and freakin electricity, how are they finding it so easy to put together these complex devices and get the materials for them?

How are they getting military-grade explosive devices into the country? And coordinating attacks no less?

Think about this...if martial law were declared in a few states here, with 140,000 odd troops, how would you get a hold of explosive devices powerful enough to do something like this?

Either our military is incompetent, which I do not believe for a minute, or someone else is doing it for them....

Makes me think. posted 04/16/2008 at 02:37:29

Tree Man Has Surgery, Wants Love

That's what this doc says. I think he's wrong which is why he wants to do more tests....this is a different organism. The government wouldn't ban an HPV positive medical case but a fungal/mycobial one which is easily shed to others who may have low immunity? Definitely...

Methinks this one won't get into the medical journals for a reason....some things are better left unpublished...they're rare enough and you want to keep it that way!

This doc:

"He also has a $524,000 grant from the U.S. Veterans Health Administration to investigate allergic reactions to natural rubber latex."

Ya....riiight....latex allergies...uh huh

http://www.umm.edu/news/releases/gaspari.htm

Glad we're on top of it though. It looks to me more fungal in origin. Immune response is improved with Vitamin A but he will need anti-viral (ahem...anti-fungal) "tree-tment" indefinitely. Just my guess, that area has probably already been treated to kill it. Now this guy has to be treated.

Sometimes our government actually does good things. posted 04/16/2008 at 01:46:10

With Clinton It Would Be "Hillary Hates Hicks" -- With Obama It's "Compassion"

Let me clarify a little more. Comprehension skills are down in this country. Bill Clinton said the same things when he last ran, and it was well received. Obama says it, whoa nelly, it's a catastrophe.

My hubby, IS a typical white person, he even likes to be called redneck. He's proud of it. Why aren't you? Why take offense to it? When did being called white become such an insult to some whites? Not a smart move. Shows he's a never give up guy which is why I respect him, but he's tripping up all over and his accuracy is suffering, which is what I think was the goal of the Clinton campaign...squash those damn good speeches somehow. Mariah just has a beautiful voice, I love her music, always will. How unAmerican to bash success and talent, it should be celebrated. Besides, the Beatles are the ones who broke Elvis record, and continue to do so. They're #1 above Mariah.

More From America's Worst Mom: 9-Year-Old On The Subway, Continued

At risk of a flaming...here I go....

I'm a NY mom, while I agree with you that it's critical to give kids freedom to master their surroundings independently I can't agree with letting all 9 year old boys take the subway by themselves as a recurring habit.

-subways have a serious groper problem, young girls know this. They take the subway in groups. I've even been groped on the subway a few times.

-NY DOES have a population of pedophiles, the convicted ones have to ride the subway as many of them aren't the most gainfully employed or moneyed after such a conviction. This is one lottery I wouldn't want my 9 year old participating in.

-Platform pushers. That rare but wacky breed who occasionally pop up when no one expects it.

-The atmosphere in subways is strained. It just is. Blame it on the media, war on terror, whatever, everyone watches everyone. While this theoretically makes a child safer, it also puts them in a position to be self conscious. It's gotta be weird.

-NY'ers are amazing. They will go to town to protect each other, especially a child. That's what makes it a great city. I've seen several kids in my travels over the years so you're not unique but every kid is different, you may have a 9 year old who looks and acts like he's 13, who knows, I still would caution any parent against this as a general practice. posted 04/11/2008 at 22:17:27

And it is not the same contract for everyone. It is adjusted IF the recruit is fortunate enough to have an attorney for a parent, or comes from a military family.

Our mission would be so much easier and would have greater global and domestic support if we all just got a little more honest, don't you think?

After the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, Sawsan says, the situation was "the best." But now, she says, it's "the worst."

Contracts are always renegotiated when they no longer serve the needs of both parties. Military contracts are the ONLY non-negotiable contracts existing in the US. To compare the military contract to a business contract has been the single most baffling argument I've encountered during the war on terror.

If a soldier is on the verge of mental collapse due to multiple redeployments, or their personal circumstances require a longer in-between time than is laid out in the contract, or a limit to redeployment, the right to renegotiate is absent. They're coerced into compliance. Last time I negotiated a contract up for review I didn't have a chain of military command, jail time, retaliatory assignments and threat of negative discharge status placing me at immediate disadvantage..

None of this would even be necessary if the mission was defined in clear and patriotic terms consistent with their experiences on the ground. Not happening. We in a global counter-jihad with nuclear implications and no clear enemy combatant, so we've fallen into the old "kill, pillage, rape and hear the lamentations of their women" mode of Vietnam. That is a monumental failure of our leadership and our soldiers are paying the price. It is our duty as citizens to put our government on the ropes to stop this. posted 04/12/2008 at 16:55:54

The burkas and veils came on after we got there.

We can put troops in every single country in the world, that still isn't going to eradicate the threat. A political reconciliation and agreement is required. Not surrender, but solution. posted 04/12/2008 at 16:29:34

Not only do we need strong leadership for the vacuum that currently exists in Iraq, we need economic incentives, and humanitarian assistance. We need an unprecedented number of boots on the ground to sustain all of those at once, an unprecedented diplomatic and security mission, and we need to stop indiscriminate slaughter of Iraqis. Extermination is not an option, as well as not practical. Increased global support for our efforts on Iran and Saudi Arabia will come when we get Iraq on track. If we can't do this, we need to get the hell out of there and regroup/prepare for what's to come.

We have boots on the ground all over the world right now hunting Muslims, radical or otherwise, it's hard to differentiate nowadays, just ask McCain, he doesn't even bother to anymore. A political solution is required, and an imperative. On that much, I will agree with Petraeus, and there sure isn't much I agree with him on.

Throw out the Vietnam book. Communism was benign and diplomatically resolved in comparison. The ME is nothing like this.

"the bar being set at "devoid of extremism" is too high. The US is not devoid of extremism."

Comparative to a culture that finds it acceptable/uncontrollable to bomb civilians, yes, we are devoid of extremism. My neighbor pisses me off, I have a pretty decent court in my community to address grievance. Not perfect, but certainly don't need to blow up their house if I lose. Rule of law and a majority population who adhere to it (as well as Constitutional Law, most important of all) does that. A functioning private sector starts with a functioning population. Not in reverse. Ireland had economic incentives to stop the violence, also, they had Bertie Ahern and (horrors) Tony Blair, good leadership as you stated, who made it happen. Different culture, different approach. I think Sen. Obama was correct to assert global extermination and repression is a concern, and a false path to achieving significant success. posted 04/12/2008 at 03:22:32

"My confidence in our ability and the Iraqi's willingness is very high. My confidence in our capacity to see it through is very low."

Iraqis were always willing. It is a shame that was squandered by the initial Washington players, including Bush/Cheney but certainly not limited to them, in sabotaging that process every chance they could to incite sectarian violence. Disbanding their army (who were also highly willing to support a new and free democracy) against the generals & Joint chiefs of Staff advisement were intentional, not accidental. This has led to our inability to help the Iraqis. We must acknowledge that to move forward.

Addressing Obama's Olympics Inexperience

What he should be doing, what Clinton should be doing, what McCain should be doing, hell, what EVERYONE should be doing is putting the spotlight on the growing international crisis and escalation we have happening right now. And I don't mean the damn Olympics.

Tibet has just replaced Britney Spears as the latest MSM distraction. OUR SOLDIERS ARE DYING, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MUSLIMS ARE DYING, WE ARE IN A NEW COLD WAR WITH RUSSIA, WE NOW HAVE TROOPS SETTING BOOTS DOWN IN AFRICA AND NOT TO HELP DARFUR, OUR SOLDIERS ARE TRAPPED IN IRAQ INDEFINITELY AND IF WE BOMB IRAN THEY WILL BE UPWIND FROM THE NUCLEAR FALLOUT FROM IRANS "URANIUM ENRICHMENT" SITES, WE CAN'T AFFORD A SINGLE INITIATIVE CLINTON OR OBAMA ARE PROPOSING AS THIS ESCALATION GOES ALONG..

McCain Won't Rule Out Pre-Emptive War

Ramirez - love your posts...but he did say it..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFknKVjuyNk

To be fair, he elaborated to say if the situation is similar to other nations where we maintain a presence (no soldiers getting harmed/killed) he advocated staying to deter any al Qaeda presence from establishing itself for up to 50, 60 years, or permanently, as is the case in Japan.

If we bomb Iran, our soldiers in Iraq are at risk for uranium exposure from Iran's "uranium enrichment" sites, and chaos for an indeterminable amount of time, also Russia has reactivated and has expressed strong rhetoric against a strike, including upping air missions near Alaska.

http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2008/04/airforce_pacaf_040608/

The benign presence scenario McCain described does not reflect the reality. If the odds of success with minimal loss of American lives, and possibly cities (return fire from N. Korea, Russia cannot be ruled out) were high McCain would have shot straight about it and I would support this. There is no such war plan depicting success. Why Progressives Should Support the Draft and Why Aren't People Protesting McCain's Lack of Patriotism?

"In December 2007, the Selective Service System announce that it plans to conduct a comprehensive test of the draft system sometime in 2009."

But don't worry, it's routine...nothing to see there...

"The Army is currently undergoing a major reorganization (which will take several years), the ultimate result of which will transfer many active duty, non-deployable "support" jobs to civilian contractors. That will allow the Army to use the active duty slots to create more combat and direct combat-support units"

So if there is a draft, you'll be trained for usable skills, like direct combat. Makes sense now why a majority of Congressional Republicans do not support the new GI bill. Alot of $$$ to dish out educating returning draftees......

....but not to worry, draftees are "scum" and "more trouble than they're worth" so if there is a draft, you'll get the added bonus of being an automatic 2nd class military citizen on top of cannon fodder for the Iraq debacle.

And then there are the other wars to consider....Russia getting uppity lately, our newly minted "humanitarian" military forces in Africa (though from what i've read, they're not in Darfur or Sudan..hmmm..), our ongoing (until recently) neglected efforts in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and don't forget Venezuela is getting written in as we speak....

If you don't think a draft is coming, you're not paying attention. Republicans want it on THEIR terms. And their terms are going to suck, as usual. posted 04/10/2008 at 07:42:45

Bush Gets Emotional Tuesday, Talks About Drinking On Wednesday

Excellent points.

"If you see no difference between the work that doctors, etc do (people whose primary mission is to help the population"

No matter how cautious a physician is, or thorough/pro-active, exposures happen, by someone elses mistake or by elements they could not control. I know this to be fact. Common enough for me to have seen a few doctors with Hep C in my own lab work back in the days. By your logic, it is Darwin award worthy to pursue a profession that knowingly places you at risk like that - because it saves people. who you have no idea what they will do with their lives once saved. Some of those people who may harm others. The world is not black or white. There are grays.

A soldier, or hired assassin, deserves honor and respect for doing this morally/ethically difficult work as well. Until and unless there is a global evolution toward peace/consensus, we will face conflicts that are just and require the services of our brave . "Hired assassins" in history gave many of us our freedoms we enjoy today. I by no means say Iraq is such a just cause, and absolutely agree with you it must end. As with MD's, sometimes you don't get to choose who you save or decide if they deserve to be saved. You just do your job and pray it was the right thing to do until you know more. Petraeus in 2003: "Tell Me How This Ends" -- and He Still Doesn't Know

Our goals were never to free Iraqis, our goals were to incite the mullahs in the Middle East so we could bomb them into oblivion, particularly Iran, which is progressing as planned. The fragile situation will be allowed (incited?) to blow when the rest of the world stops blocking us from leveling Iran.

The surge is working lovely, it bought time for the "political reconciliation" we need to get permission from the worlds governments to let us proceed without return fire coming our way, and Congress did just fine in playing their parts as "concerned overseers of the public interest" Complete farce.

Bring the troops home, forget the theater. If we can't stop this, at least get our men and women home before it happens.

Will McCain keep our troops there if they bomb Iran? If I were a soldier, I'd certainly wanna know that one...looks like nothing will make him remove troops from Iraq....instead of body armor, if McCain wins we need to start sending our soldiers potassium iodide pills and spf 20,000 sunscreen. When he passed away and I buried him with full military ceremony at Florida National Cemetery and they handed me his flag, I earned the right to advocate for those he loved in the service and to do everything in my power to prevent what happened to him to happen again.

So true.

Meanwhile, back at the base, the financial incentives, bonuses and benefits offered for re-enlistment and rank ascension which are directly responsible for the career military personnel we already have are conveniently ignored by Republicans. Military retention even with these incentives will drop no matter what as long as they are in power over the military.

This is why our nation is suffering such backlash, no honor at the highest levels. Scam artists squeezing every last dime out of anyone naive enough to volunteer it. This is why we're in this mess. Robber barons can run a company, they sure can't run a nation. posted 04/07/2008 at 13:57:49
His courage is not in question. He has courage. So did many emotionally unstable and nationalistic dictators throughout global history. How you use that trait is a critical factor to consider. Let's accept his apology at face value, what to make of his denial of the new GI bill? How long before he spins his lack of support on that one too? Or his call to place our soldiers at risk for radiation contamination in Iraq by bombing Iran?

McCain has a dangerous agenda ignored to the average voter. His father died of "natural causes" (unknown what that is - not of heart failure, that was his grandfather) after a lifetime of heavy drinking. Vietnam had much to do with that legacy. How many little guys will he make pay for the big guys mistakes trying to redeem that painful legacy? What will it take for him to realize he can't fix the past by repeating history and trying to correct it to blame the "liberals" for failure? How many lives is he willing to sacrifice to learn this terrible lesson? This latest batch of Republicans have long and hideous memories, like the elephant symbol they cherish. Progressive ideals and "moving forward" are not what they do. They try to return back where they think "we liberals" and "soft republicans" went wrong and will stop at nothing to further that agenda. McCain is a classic example of that. Racial divides spin have distracted from the real issues at stake here. posted 04/07/2008 at 01:26:44
If our candidates are suffering such intense scrutiny, McCain should not be exempt. I'm calling him on his phony explanation for his lack of support for the holiday, as well as his spin on how it finally came to pass without threat of repeal. If that makes me "a hateful liberal" so be it. He's full of hot air, not just on this issue, but a multitude of issues. He's got guts, most definitely. Brave man, thoughtful and deliberative. But he IS a politician, one knocking around Washington a long time and a master of marketing and spin.

Where are his tax returns? Where are his medical reports showing him sufficiently medically uncompromised for the intense position of POTUS? Why has he not released who his choices for VP considering how critical these are based on his age? Where are our press calling for this information to be released in the best interests of our country?

Uncouth and rude of me to ask? You betcha. McCain likes his reputation as blunt and in your face, people respect him for it, as a voter, I'm bluntly and in your face demanding the information. I refuse to fall in line and stay quiet so that I dare not offend followers of the blind cult of war hero that will lead us to our national demise. "Those of us who have served, worn the cloth of our nation, and gone into harm's way know that to be successful we must have the strongest sense of trust in our Commander in Chief. We must be confident that he or she has listened to the best possible advice, that he or she has garnered the best possible information from all possible sources, that he or she has analyzed and weighed all the possible consequences and outcomes, and that he or she has made the decision to exert military force as a last possible resort," said Admiral (Ret.) Robert "William" Williamson (USN). "Of this I am certain: Senator Obama will do all of those things and much more to ensure the safety and freedom of our citizens, our allies, and coalition partners. Iraqis are standing down and cooperating with Maliki.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/03/30/iraq.main/index.html

Allies are mobilizing and planning to get back into Iraq for humanitarian assistance. Iraqis know they'll be targets and are bracing for it, but they are finally aware no one can help them until they disarm and they are actively mobilizing to work with their government and end all violence ASAP..

"We announce our disavowal from anyone who carries weapons and targets government institutions, charities and political party offices," al-Sadr said in a nine-point statement issued by his headquarters in Najaf.

The statement was accompanied by demands that the Iraqi government issue a general amnesty to his followers and release any being held. The statement was distributed across Iraq and posted on the Internet.

The move was welcomed by Iraq's government, whose forces have been fighting al-Sadr's militia, the Mehdi Army, in six days of clashes with so-called "outlaws" who had taken control of much of the southern city of Basra. U.S. and coalition troops have been supporting the Iraqi offensive."
