Michigan Democrats: Split Delegates 69-59

Michigan: We held a sham election - soviet style with one major candidate. Of those who bothered with it, 45% voted for "Uncommitted".

Based on that, we'd like everyone to accept our entirely made up result of giving Hillary 69 delegates, and Obama 59.

To not count our made up results of a sham election would disenfranchise the people of Michigan. Well, not so much the voters who didn't get a fair election, but the Governor and the other Hillary supporters who don't really believe in democracy and elections. posted 04/30/2008 at 16:32:01

Worst Debate Ever? Demographics Anyone?

Gee, and in February you claimed Obama was "your man". Now you claim "we don't know this man". You'll say anything to make yourself sound serious, won't you? The only thing you've been consistent about is defending the president.

Too bad ABC and the media never gave this much scrutiny to your man - George W Bush. Of course, I'm sure you were demanding they ask him the tough questions about his cocaine use, too. Because, after all, you're not a hypocritical Republican who would say anything to win.

ABC Hosts Heckled After Debate: "The Crowd Is Turning On Me"

Gee, the best part of the debate was the two talking millionaires telling us that America cares about flag pins and who our candidates eat lunch with. Because, to these millionaires, Americans are stupid 7th graders who will flip out when we learn that Jenny told Mary that Bill likes Hannah, when really Scott likes... sheesh.

In "I'm paid far too much, to talk slowly" land, these things really aren't important:
War in Iraq,
Housing crisis
Economic crisis
Climate crisis
Constitutional crisis
Healthcare crisis

Nope, that's not important.

The Presidency isn't an affirmative action position.

You can't pick a minority or a woman for President because "Hey, why not. We haven't had one of those before. Couldn't be any worse than..."

Actually, yes. It COULD be worse.

Go ahead, take a gender or race based selection for your personal assistant, Ms. Reardon. If it doesn't work out, you can fire that person. The President is someone who we've seen can do whatever the heck they want with our nation for four years - and there seems to be nothing we can do to stop them.

So yeah, lets throw caution to the wind, and pick someone as a great token to an underrepresented demographic. That'll make us feel so much better about ourselves, right?

Or we could choose the person we feel is best suited to deal with the responsibility. America used to strive to be a meritocracy. What were we thinking... posted 04/11/2008 at 13:29:00

Clinton's Push For Popular Vote Win May Not Persuade Superdelegates

As soon as Hillary comes up with a coherent argument, I'll start listening.

Instead it is always two or three contradictory arguments at once, and the Clinton-supporters cling to the one that wins the "argument", ignoring the contradiction, and switching as needed.

So which is it? Consider the electoral college implications, or the popular vote? Because in the electoral college, you can't win by running up the score in big states - any votes over 50%+1 for a state are irrelevant. But her popular vote argument relies on taking the big states she's run up the score in (like CA), and using those voters to ignore (disenfranchise) the voters in those small and/or red and/or caucus states - the states that have electoral votes.

Obama Risks Alienating Clinton Women and Blue-Collar Supporters

Bush ain't a quitter either, tho I think the nation agrees we'd be better off if he did.

As for insulting - I think its a bit insulting to act like Barack can't "win" this primary until Clinton chooses to concede. The winner will be chosen by the delegates. His lead in elected delegates is so large that it simply won't be overturned by the remaining 10 contests, based on the current polls and even giving Clinton a huge benefit of the doubt. To act otherwise is just fancy talk for disenfranchising the people who gave him this lead.

Clinton says that the superdelegates can overrule the elected delegates. True, by the rules. But since Super Tuesday she's lost the superdelegate race too, 65 to 5.

At this point, Clinton can only win if the remaining supers overwhelmingly go for her. There is not even a rumor that this will happen.

She's lost this race. Nothing between now and the Convention will really change the situation in her favor.

She's not a representative of "every woman". This isn't a race to determine whose symbolic status is more important. It's a race to pick the presidential nominee. Not every vote has been counted, and we absolutely must count them all. I'm proud of how both candidates are campaigning and engaging voters in every state. But with over 80% of the elected delegates counted, his lead is enough that the networks would be calling the race for him, were this an election posted 04/02/2008 at 16:47:38
