Son of a Portugese immigrant, I was Born and raised in the People's Republic of Massachusetts where I began to develop my liberal political thinking. Rather than be drafted I volunteered to serve in the US Army at the end of the Vietnam era. The Army did me a great favor sending me to Europe and paying for my education and making it possible for me to spend over 20 of the next 25 years living. During my time there both in the military for the 5 years and subsequently as a civilian contractor and finally as a Management Consultant working entirely in the German economy, I had the opportuunity to learn a tremendous amount about various political systems and live first hand through such events as the Berlin Wall coming down and the reunification of Germany. I also had the experience of living through several terrorist incidents including having a friend's father killed by the Bader Meinhof gang. Throughout all of this I developed what I believe to be a very objective view of the The United States and our place and responsibility in the world. I am a strong supporter of the military but not of using it where we have no business such as Iraq. I believe our current administration is guilty of doing more harm to the reputation of The United States than I had ever believed possible. We need to make a change and we need to make it soon
