Is the Corporate Media Deciding This Election For Us?

Dave: You state that "In the early 1980s the Reagan administration unilaterally dropped the requirements that broadcast media serve the public interest...' What was the legal authority held by the Executive branch to unilaterally change the policy. It must not have been a law passed by congress, for it were, the action would not have been legal or binding. posted 04/30/2008 at 18:35:26

Keith Olbermann's Idea For Beating Hillary: Literally Beating Hillary

Rachel: Let's recall that H Clinton compared herself to Rocky Balboa and stated that when she gets knocked down she get back up. How many times has she been quoted as saying she is "fighter"? Countless. Her old man describes politics as a "contact sport" and calls for "putting on the pads." Writers of every persuation describe political campaigns as street fights. Even the cockroach, chickenhawk Rove wrote an article entitled "How to Win in a Knife fFght." (or something very close to that title).
The vast vast majority of the ones who use these tough guy/gal analogies and none of the ones mentioned here have ever been in a real knife fight, street fight or even school yard brawl. They just run their mouths trying to appear tough. They have never shown anything to refute my view that they would run to mommy and hide under the bed if ever confronted with real violence.
So it seems that Olberman just continued with the same chest-puffing nonesense. posted 04/25/2008 at 16:05:54

Petraeus Promotion Just One More Crony Replacing A Commander

It's more like his boss turned Iraq into a huge pile of sh$$, had Petraeus throw a flowery tarp over a small portion of it, had him take a close up photo of the tarp and is attempting to pass it off as a garden. Telling us, all the while, not to mind the smell. posted 04/24/2008 at 00:19:19
Esprit: It may very well be many more than (as you aptly list) "our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, and friends" who will suffer. The Iranians have ties with the Russians, among others. Not long ago there was a big incident about bushie setting up missles in eastern Eurpoe pointing right at the Russians. My concern is that if bushie attacks Iran the bolshevics may see it as a grab for Iranian oil and conclude (and maybe rightfully) that they are next on the list. It could get very messy. posted 04/24/2008 at 00:04:46

Thoughts on Pennsylvania, Clinton and Obama from a "Realisticrat"

Hey Ostro: In the first paragraph you say you are neither a Demo or a Repub but some ficticious Realisticrat. Stand up and be counted.
In the same paragraph you say you prefer Obama and that he would make the better president and then in your next breath you side with his opponent (Clinton). Stand up and be counted.
Next you poop all in you pants about the RRAM like it is some kind of an unstoppable force. Not once even implying that you are willing to fight for your beliefs. Stand up and be counted.
Next comes the ...let the RCAM do the fighting (like that is the only weapon at your disposal) while you are where...under you bed? Stand up and be counted.
Lastly, you wimper several time not to shoot the messager. The only massage from your drivel is that you cannot deal with any confrontation or conflict. Stand up and be counted or crawl back under you bed with the rest of your Realisticrats. posted 04/22/2008 at 17:47:20

The Pentagon's Spin Machine

Pierre: I appreciate the response but it didn't address my question. To repeat, what are the top five actions you recommend be taken against the "robber barons?" It is ok if you don't have any action items, just say so. posted 04/21/2008 at 17:32:36

McCain Wins GOP, Independents Back In New Poll

Another recent poll showed 80% of Americans say the country is on the wrong track. John McCain's policies more than mirror those of GW Bush. Now this poll says an equal number of Americans back McCain as back either democrat. It must be that a large percent of American want to be on the wrong track. Maybe polls are full of ..... posted 04/17/2008 at 12:39:46

Why Wall Street Socialism Will Fail

It's not like the corporatists haven't been plain in their strategy. They named their paradigm the "trickle-down theory." Sounds suspiciuosly like the poor wretches on the lower economic rungs are to recieve the crumbs and droppings from the upper rungs. The ultimate insult is that when the upper rung gamblers make bad decisions and take losses, they reach down and confiscate the crumbs and droppings form the lower rungs. posted 04/15/2008 at 14:27:20

We're Not Staring Into the Abyss, We're In It

The overwelming consensus is that the U.S armed forces have the best equipment, are the best trained, and have the best and toughest soldiers, sailors, airman and marines on the planet. Without delving into the (de)merits of why we invaded Iraq, we did and took out their armed forces and toppled the regime in a matter of weeks. Not really surprising considering it was a second rate third world country. So in the five plus years of occupation, FIVE YEARS for crying out loud, why is that the most formitable force on earth cannot bring and maintain order to a place the size of California? The answer is easy, FAILURE OF LEADERSHIP. GW Bush, Patraeus and those that came before him, Joint Chiefs, Chaney, Crocker, Rice, Rumsfeld, Gates...most are criminals, all are duds. posted 04/13/2008 at 01:24:05

Punished for the Truth

All I see and hear are 3 presidential candidates ascribing thoughts and feelings to the good folks of Pennsylvania's small towns and rural communities. Has anybody bothered to asked them what they think of the accuracy of Obama's comments and the retorts made by H. Clinton amd McCain? I wonder what they say. posted 04/12/2008 at 18:17:21

Give Iranians Their Freedom Back

Madam, if you are waiting for someone to give you freedom, you will never have any. Freedom is something a person, group or society must fight to obtain and be ever vigilant to keep. Not always, but often times it is a very messy endeavor. If some other group "gives" it to you, it will be on their terms and they can also take it away whenever they want. So it was only an illusion. posted 04/11/2008 at 12:33:05

John McCain Accuses Me Of "Trash Journalism" While He Engages In "Trash" Propaganda During The Petraeus Hearing

John McCain knows first hand that torture can cause the torturee to sign documents and make "addmission" that are false. Eveen knowing this he votes against restricting the CIA from torturing others. Sounds like he wants revenge against anybody he can get a hold of, which makes him ineligble to be president or hold any other office of honor. posted 04/08/2008 at 12:59:32

Sometimes Honor Is Wrong -- The Problem With John McCain

It is well established that John McCain was brutally tortured both physically and psychologically while a POW in Viet Nam. The fact that he survived proves to me he is one tough SOB and should be admired for his toughness. He admitted that during the torture he told himself to last one more week, then one more day, then one more hour, then one more minute until finally he could no longer endure. As a direct result of the torture John McCain signed phoney confessions and made statements against himself and our country that everyone knew were completely false. One can only imagine how much it must have pained him.
I don't believe there is another person in either house of congress or in the administration who is more keenly aware of the heinous nature of torture. But even knowing, first hand, that persons who are tortured can be made to admit to anything, he voted against the bill to prevent the CIA from torturing prisoners. That act gives credence to the above author's contention that John McCain is too adversely affected by his Viet Nam experience. It was also a dishonorable act and disqualifies him from being president of the United States. posted 04/02/2008 at 19:03:18

The End of the Age of Milton Friedman

What we have today is not Capitalism. It is a collusion between governments and multi-national corporation. The object is to control the world's economies so the few reap the financial rewards at the expense of the many. e.g. your statement "they want their money and don't want to pay taxes on it or have the government interfer(e), but when they lose money they want the public and the Federal Government to bail them out.", another is doing business with the Chinese totalitarian state that supplies them slave labor, and assisting that same state monitor their populace and to even help them round up disidents. All this looks suspiciously like fascism; but for now, let's call it Corporatism. posted 03/31/2008 at 19:11:53

Bush: Iraq Violence A Necessary Part Of Development

The administration has been threatening to attack IRAN for quite a while now. Let's not be too surprised when IRAN will fights with a vengence. The military probably told the administration that unless we take out the Mahdi army, our troops will be fighting a multi-front war and be outnumbered. Hence the current fight to eliminate al Sadr's boys. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get to use tactical nukes. That ought to liven things up. posted 03/28/2008 at 21:46:58
