Barbara Walters On Star Jones' Verbal Barbs: "Poor Woman"

Barbara has been very clever, somewhat insulting folks but not enough that she can still be acquainted with them and has worked out strategies so that she can't ever be seen as the bad party in all these controversies. Ya notice she does the tell all book AFTER she's already got her money and fame and all the folks she talks about have either moved on or passed away. Ya gotta give her credit for cleverly being honest with out destroying other people's lives. But it must be tiring to do the same stuff over and over on these promo tours for her book, I've watched her recent appearances on other news/chat shows and she recaps the same stuff over and over, but then again I guess that's what they're supposed to do when promoting a book or something similar. posted 05/13/2008 at 11:05:22

Health Care As the New Terrorist to Fear

I kinda thought that is kinda shocking. Perhaps what should happen is to make ALL healthcare providers non profit. For profit healthcare providers would be illegal. Again what 's with a celeb flying on a commercial airline anyway? Seems to me he WANTED to get caught for the publicity (good or bad). He's at that income level where he could have chartered a private jet or had fractional ownership of one, then he could go to the SW side of the airport avoid the paparazzi and the embarassment of this incident and take off from the private terminal at the SW side of the airport or could have used Van Nuys Airport for this-that's all for private aircraft. posted 05/12/2008 at 10:50:21

Vallejo's Bankruptcy Might Have Been Prevented

All this whining about public employee unions getting 'generous' benefits for the most part is all bs
they are equivalent to what's in the private sector, and in some cases DO NOT pay into SSN-they have their OWN system. Oh yeah the media goes on and on about some high level exec or director of such and such government entity but that's for they few that are at that level, most of the grunt work folks like say your vital police, firefighters, first responders in disasters not to mention the other dilberts that monitor control and negotiate all the contracts to MAKE SURE taxpayer money is not wasted get compensation and benefits in line with the private sector. That is just pandering that is used by the antitax at any cost crowd (read libertarian neocon etc.). The sad thing about all of this is the taxpayer/voter for the most part DOESN'T GET THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TAXES THEY PAY AND THE GOVERMENT SERVICES THEY RECEIVE, elected and public officials don't seem to stress that in the media and they should (media doesn't or doesn't want to take this on-typical of corporate media). BTW what happened in Glenn County, I've heard it had gone 'bankrupt; several years ago and let's not forget Orange County and New York City. There's been stories about this off and on in the media about this. And it must not be dominated by a few large faceless impersonal megacorporations. And then I guess whole animals raised for food will become a luxury item.

MTV's Real World: Hollywood and the Continuing Descent into "Negativness"

After the LA/(Venice) and San Francisco ones, it all went down hill after that. It was all stereotypes all bitching and whining. At least on the LA one, one person actually had a real job as an L. A. County sheriff deputy. And there was that ugh Puck from San Francisco one. But after that not anything interesting. And as another commenter pointed out that was about the time Bunim passed away.
Yep go figure. posted 04/22/2008 at 11:04:55

Shortage Weakens Resistance To Biotech Crops

'In Japan and South Korea, some manufacturers for the first time have begun buying genetically engineered corn for use in soft drinks, snacks ...'
Is rather telling-they need it to make junk food so folks can get more obese, not to feed starving folks in other countries. I heard on a tv program all this tech and trading in food doesn't really benefit those who need it most it mostly benefits those who can pay for it, not necessarily those starving millions who really need the food. End result folks just keep popping out more babies. posted 04/21/2008 at 10:34:52

Kinda shocking and alarmist but think about this this goes back to the that 'vast right wing conspiracy'
in Calif. it all started with republican (and neocon evangelfundie) backed propostion 13 which pretty much dried up school funding and thus classes such as 'civics' were the first to be cut, and I'm sure in the other 49 states it could be traced back to similar actions. Thus the generation that will be replacing those who are retired will be uninformed about democracy and that's exactly what neocon evangel rethuglicans want.
A compliant un (and ill) informed populace, then they can advance their agenda by gutting the constitution, and you can bet the corporate globalized american played along since their goals are similar, kinda the reason why that media has been so dumbed down, evidenced by the moderators of the last democratic presidential debate. posted 04/19/2008 at 16:09:39

Nash McCabe: Obama's Flag Pin Questioner

So with her hard life why did she ask such a trivial question, she had the background to ask a hard probing question but then she wasted it. I guess I could never run for office as I don't wear any jewelry at all and only wear a cheap watch only when I'm at work. posted 04/18/2008 at 13:14:59

Saving the Woods is Class Prejudice

Every time I read/hear about fight for open space I remember seeing a map circa 1963 I think it's from a book called 'Man Made America' (you can probably google it and perhaps find the map) It was llustrated by showing the dark colored areas as 'areas that are more than 5 miles from the nearest road, right of way or navigable waterway'-this is North America's remaining wilderness-much of the east coast had almost no dark coloring (maybe parts of upstate New York and part of Main and New Hampshire) There were some dark colored areas in the west but not as much as you'd think there would be and remember this was in 1963. If this was shown in these fights for open spaces, I think it would illustrate what folks are fighting for. posted 04/18/2008 at 10:20:28

Joe Scarborough Walks Off MSNBC's "Race To The White House" After Exchange With Rachel Maddow

I wish more guests would stand up to interrupting folks Rachel you go girl.
Scarborough was rude but he's not the first Billo is the worst offender.

I think they should make a new tv show a mashup of political talk and game show.
The rules are each guest get to talk conscisely about an issue for 1 minute without interruption, if any other guests overtalks or interrupts they lose points, lesser points deducted for rolling the eyes or any other similar gesture. The one that wins is one that has the most points and was judged by the studio and call in tv audience to be the most clear and conscise about explaining and issue and their opinions on it. Of course there's no way FNC would have a show like this. posted 04/19/2008 at 16:23:41
