Clinton: Why I Voted No On FISA

MiddleRoad,

New found respect for Hillary, because as a sophmore senator, she makes grandstanding speeches about why she voted a certain way? She is no longer a candidate, and she supported plenty of wiretapping in her day, when it was in her interest, or maybe you forgot she was wiretapping republicans while Bill was in office.

Please read the story below titled "More Of Hillary Clinton"s Alleged Illegal Wiretapping Exploits Uncovered"

NYCAlex,

Your civil liberties are only really being compromised if you are accepting cell phone calls from Afghanistan or the Gaza strip.

The republicans won't have a field day painting Obama as a flip flopper for supporting this, because its theirs. If anything it scares them a little. The will attack him for flipping on some other issue. posted 07/10/2008 at 10:40:03

Oh, Yes She Can

Kristen writes: "why in God's green Earth would Obama or any Democratic candidate for that matter ever run anywhere near the center?"

Even if more people identify themselves as Democrats, it does not mean that all Democrats run the far left. The vast majority of Americans are radical one way or the other.

Why not have what is best for all people, instead of a select segment?

And what is the left Kristen speaks about really trying to promote? I mean all I ever hear are gripes. I don't see anybody putting forth solutions. I think Obama will put forth solutions (many more than a do-nothing power-monger like Clinton would, just see Bill's presidency, he really didn't do anything) posted 07/09/2008 at 12:29:50
I don't know how I continue to be surprised by the amount of gripes and lack of solutions I continue to find from the so-called left... now embittered against Obama for being left enough.

Blogs like this undermine real progressivism. To promote undermining the Democratic Presidential candidate by supporting a delegate coup at the DNC or to promote withholding campaign contributions from him is nothing more than militant angst. MILITANT ANGST.

We are a nation of many types of people and for all those types people. When a candidate like Obama attempts to reach out to all people, it is not a matter of losing his core values, rather it is reaching out to those values that serve a majority of all citizens, black, white, straight gay, rich, poor, man, woman, religious or not...etc. This isn't some attempt to undermine the radical far left, which are as much a self-serving interest as big oil. This is an attempt to heal a nation divided, and a majority of Americans seem to support Obama's message (flippy or not) posted 07/09/2008 at 12:19:02

Update: Sending Your Obama Money to Feingold

Smart, send a message to Obama about FISA, which is nothing but leftist scare-mongering about privacy violation. Gee allowing the government to tap international phone calls to known or suspected terrorists abroad, doesn't seem to be a totally bad idea....not that I agree with FISA 100%. But to cut off your nose for a single issue to send a message, well that really doesn't say much for compromise.

Where's The Line? Fox Shows Footage of Dead Supermodel

The ultimate sick of this whole article is that Rachel Sklar invites you to watch the footage yourself, thus a defacto support of the footage. This piece is nothing more than propaganda. While I agree the whole thing is in bad taste. You can't just provide a link to the dead images and absolve yourself of actively promoting viewing it, by saying it bad.

Shame on Fox shame on Sklar. And shame on hypocrisy. posted 06/30/2008 at 18:35:08

Government control will lead to poorer healthcare for those who could have afforded it otherwise. This is happening in Canada, where a politician with cancer has come to America for treatment because she couldnt get it quickly enough at home, despite the fact she was an advocate of universal healthcare, apparently only as it applies to other people

Government control over healthcare would result in discrimination against people who are fat, drink alcohol, smoke, rockclimb, etc... why? Dodd And Feingold Will Filibuster Telecom Immunity

OK brilliant peoples!

Go after the telecoms, sue them silly on the wire taps, who do you think pays for it in the end? The consumer! We shouldn't give immunity to the telecoms for subjecting themselves to the government, so people should sue them for the illegal taps, then there will be a huge settlement, and the telecoms will raise prices to offset the losses.

Yes and we need to spend more tax dollars going after frivolous lawsuits.

I understand Feingold's idealism, but he's out of touch. Responsible government is to GOVERN not to investigate and prosecute and impeach endlessly. These are distractions from real issues, like better schools, infrastructure and real personal freedoms. posted 06/24/2008 at 16:25:42

At least we have freedom of the press... Standards of journalism? got news for you. Muckraking yellow journalism has been around for centuries. There is always some sort of bias thats why articles have what is called a "slant" maybe you have heard the term "whats your angle?"

As far as right wing conspiracies and the news, Something like 85% of all political donations from the media go to the democratic party. Reporters must declare these donations so that the public knows how they tend to slant their stories...

What makes journalism truly "fair and balanced" is multiple media outlets representing different points of view... because well everyone see things differently.

Hearst and Pulitzer are often credited as getting the US involved in The Spanish American War. By knowing your history, you'll reward yourself with the knowledge that none of this is new stuff. Media, like government, should not be trusted. Period. Who is in power doesn't change whether or not the nation is a democracy or republic.

A democracy = one person one vote.
A republic = a representative form of government.

We live the the Republic of the United States of America.

I support the concept of vigilant citizenry as you mention it. As far as fascism goes blind support or belief, including the demonization of a people or concept is at the core of fascism. Blame game scapegoating is a root of fascism. Bush is no demagogue, I mean really, have you heard him speak? So he's no Mussolini or Hitler, he creates no frenzy of chanting amongst crowds that gather to hear him.

The idea of taking from the rich to give to the poor is a great theory if you are Robin Hood.

Free Healthcare = not free, it has to get paid for by somebody... government involvement means more bureaucracy.
Tax oil companies... I hate high priced fuel, but lets be smart, how is raising taxes on oil companies goionog to drop the price of fuel? They just rais the price at the pump. Businesses always pass the taxes on to the consumers. Always have.

Taxing corporations will also not bring jobs back. You can't bring them back, why? The buying power you mentioned. Look at Wal Mart... people shop there because they can get stuff cheap. That stuff comes from China.

Higher taxes mean less buying power which means more reliance on government cheese, thats the dark side of socialism.

Racism? Well you only have to look to Clinton... they've done more racial politicking this election than anyone. Republicans? Lincoln...Abolition, NAACP, Womens Suffrage... julianne,

First of all, we live in a republic, a representative form of government, not a democracy. Individual votes have never counted on a national level.

Second... "incorruptability of the election process..." I'm sorry, but there has always been election fraud. In Chicago, a Democratic Party bastion, the old saying has been "Vote early and vote often." To think that the Republicans undermined the political process out of some inherent evil well that is fascist.

Third... Fascism see above. I hate to tell you but plenty of free thinking Americans don't belong to a party. These people sometimes vote republican sometimes democrat. When you label a whole group as evil, well that is a fascist tactic. Replace the word Republican with the word Jew, and you start to sound like a Nazi.

I AGREE: There are only disinterested parties in Washington. Divide and conquer. The two political parties have done a great job polarizing the left and right and divided the country into constituencies that fail to work together. While theytalk of controlling congress etc. They really only care about their own seat. There is now real politics of change in Washington. Unfortunately it will take bringing a bright light like Obama into office and another eight years of government erosion to show it really doesn't matter who is president.

At least the left won't have anyone to blame it on. Unfortunately the right (which I find equally disturbing) will.

I Am Not a Bargaining Chip, I Am a Democrat

Foxy,
Clinton did not congratulate Obama, nor concede the election, despite the fact Obama has won on the vote count.

That is devisive. Hillary is a strong intelligent woman. But the argument that some will always "bitch and moan" speaks more to the idea that you somehow think Clinton was cheated out of this election.

She lost fair and square, and is definitely acting bitter about it. Historically speaking she should not only have congratulated him yesterday, beyond a little compliment, she should be jumping up and down about it, uniting behind Obama, uniting the party and giving a farewell speech urging the party to unite behind the candidate who won...Obama. Thats how general elections are won, a solid concession speech by the loser using the word "WE" alot.

"not making any decisions tonight" well thats a sore loser posted 06/04/2008 at 15:17:08
Whoa Foxy!
In all actuality Obama has plenty of experience. He may be a freshman US Senator, but he has been an elected official for a lot longer than Hillary, and has about as much "experience" as Bill had by his first presidential run.

He has also proven he can select experienced and intelligent people of action to surround him, otherwise he wouldn't have won the election.

The fact is this primary was Hillary Clinton's to lose, and she made a fair amount of poor choices that cost her the election. posted 06/04/2008 at 14:58:18
I enjoyed reading your post. But knowing Clinton's character from the beginning should have clued you in on her reaction a long time ago. We are often blinded to the flaws of the people we admire, so now realizing the Clinton is a selfish power-monger concerned only with furthering her own agenda must certainly come as a shock.

I wouldn't be suprised if she sabotages the Obama campaign just to say I told you so.

As far as VP Hillary Clinton? If I were Obama, I would say no way, especially after some of the accusations. I would go so far to say as if he does select her for Veep, I will vote for McCain. No Clinton limelight.

It would be great if he were to select another woman for Veep, just to silence Clinton's unfounded arguments of sexism. posted 06/04/2008 at 14:50:24

Hooked on Hillary

gala,

You talk about rhetoric over experience, yet you are buying into the most rhetorical campaign out there. One that needs to lie about experience, one that needs to attack on race and make excuses on gender. One that files suits in state elections over the validity of delegates (see Texas) to try to turn over the popular vote in select counties where she loses.

That is creepy.

Ralph Nader = green party, well I guess you have more than a two-party system now... even if it is a joke.

Go shed a tear for Hillary, this country needs her like we need a hole in the head posted 04/01/2008 at 18:15:43
practical magic,

I'm saddened by your emotional connection to rhetoric. It sounds like you are talking about experience as if Clinton had any experience. She has less experience in an official governing capacity than any of the candidates or last four presidents.

If you are planning to vote for Clinton, you are the one who needs to stop voting with your heart, and use your head.... posted 04/01/2008 at 18:10:05
Rog49Thomas

Rog, that is about the most unintelligent "cute puppy" crap I've witnessed as a view of government. We're all just flawed humans! The government we deserve???? Guess what... not one of the candidates in the "final four" are really the best person for the job. Fact is humans are flawed and we will always buy into a certain amount of B.S.

Rather than ho-hum about dying flowers and human frailty, you should wake up from this dream of acceptance and realize its about choice.

By the way we live in a democratic republic, not a democracy. Democracy = one person, one vote. We live with a government where we elect officials to make our decisions (a republic) elected (in some cases) by majority rule. posted 04/01/2008 at 18:06:13

Hillary And Bill: We Aren't Going Anywhere

Frustrated she went beyond the pale back in the Nixon years and has proven she'd do anything ever since...

Hillary was fired from the House Judiciary Committee staff investigating the Nixon Watergate scandal for lying and ethics:

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. Zeifman fired her:

"Because she was a liar," Zeifman said in an interview last week. "She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality."
