Poll: US Image Improves, But Still Overwhelmingly Negative

That number will dive lower if McCain is elected. The only reason it has gotten better is because they hope this country will elect a Democrat. The rest of the world just does not comprehend the Republican Party because no other country in the Western world has a large party that is as right wing as the Republicans. Face it Republicans have been bashing the UN and the rest of the western world especially Europe in a constant drumbeat since Reagan. posted 04/02/2008 at 02:32:27

Clinton's Push For Popular Vote Win May Not Persuade Superdelegates

OH always vote their pocketbooks and McCain offers no plans for the economy. For the first time since 1992 more Americans say they are worse of now than four years ago. Obama will win CO, IA and VA and have a shot in MO, posted 04/02/2008 at 11:19:14
What are you smoking? To win the popular vote she would have to win PA by 20% which will never happen. Obama is withing single digits in the latest polls.

This is not the general election yet these poll numbers mean nothing. Obama started down 10%-20% in almost every state contested so far. Obama is the real fighter who can make up a deficit while Hillary cannot. posted 04/02/2008 at 11:14:17
It actually cuts both ways Obama has a 2.6% lead in popular vote and a 6.3% lead in pledge delegates so while caucus states trim you popular vote totals they actually helped Obama out in the pledge delegate lead. The pledge delegate lead is more representative of how Democrats voted in terms of weighted percentages for all Democrats represented in each state.

Obama or Hillary will get MI and neither would get FL. Florida is a bright Red state that has gone Republican in 6 of the last 7 races. Both candidates will win states like PA and OH because of the economy but Obama is the only one who has a good chance to win CO, WA, MO and IA. posted 04/02/2008 at 10:52:05

Obama Casts Race Between Him, McCain

Great quote from blogger on DailyKOS

"Blue Texan, who regularly blogs at firedoglake, pointed out:

Someone who favorably compares Iraq -- three religiously and culturally distinct countries crammed into one by British after World War I -- with the ethnically, culturally and largely religiously united societies of Germany and Japan, displays a fundamental misunderstanding of history.

Someone who favorably compares the United States' peaceful occupation of Germany and Japan, neither of which were resulting in American casualties 5 years after our arrival, displays a fundamental misunderstanding of history.

Someone who asserts that occupying Iraq for 100 years is the solution to "radical Islamic extremism" displays a fundamental misunderstanding of history."

McCain has already failed the Commander-in-Chief threshold test with his 100 years in Iraq statement. posted 04/02/2008 at 01:50:41
What's really interesting is that Obama supporters and Republicans get it while Hillary supporters do not. Obama will be the Democratic nominee barring an unforeseen disaster like Obama is an alien or something. Every right wing attack machine like the WSJ, NYP, Washington Times, NRO, Weekly Standard and Faux News have started an all out assault on Obama. Go to RCP.com and it is quite plane to see. Your right of course and Hillary should keep on attacking McCain like she did today as well. At this point if she attacks McCain as well she will seem more magnanimous to Democratic voters. I think she has faced the fact that the kitchen sink blew back on her in the long run. Her campaign will continue to go negative behind the scene but that's not winning her any friends or more importantly super delegates. She will probably go negative again against Obama right before the PA primary but who really listens to her at this point? posted 04/02/2008 at 01:28:45
Agreed. If you think about it if Obama has the delegate lead and popular vote lead he can start the general campaign against McCain as the presumptive nominee and there is little Hillary can really do. posted 04/02/2008 at 01:23:24
Obama has more international experience than Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Abraham Lincoln before they were elected. Lyndon Johnson had years of international experience like John McCain and was responsible for the second biggest foreign policy blunder after Iraq. The joke is nominating a candidate who says he know little about the economy when that is the biggest concern of the American people. Dick Cheney has more international experience than almost anyone in Washington and that did not turn out to make much difference did it now? Look I'm a dude who knows little about style but Hillary has the worse taste in clothes that I have ever seen for a woman candidate. I mean most female candidates are impeccably dressed and it's not about her size. Clair McCaskill is a healthy sized woman like Hillary and is always in good fashion. I mean from the bumblebee suit, the tweed disaster she wore in the last debate, the drapery like flower prints, the fusia bomb, and to the Republican Red State mess she shows bad judgment in her attire. Ironically she looks best in Democrat Blue and she seldom wears that color. I know fashion decisions are much tougher for women but please. I don't think most Hillary supporters know that most Obama supporters would rather be attacking McCaing right now that's why many of us are so anxious for this race to end. It's not that Obama supporters want to stop other states from voting, it's about a crazy primary and caucus calendar that was heavily front loaded. and should be over by now. While Democrats have a disagreement on who is better able to set this country in the right direction at least we all agree that we need the same change of course. Sorry for all the warship references I'm just in a fighting mood to go after McCain. posted 04/02/2008 at 00:50:27
Another great article by Maureen Dowd. As long as Democrats do not let this race go too far after the primaries end, Clinton is only helping Obama get ready for the general. So you are fine with every healthy young person paying a 10% tax for health care. Face it mandatory heath care will be a boon for insurance companies. That's why they are supporting Hillary more than anyone else. Obama's health care plan will let families cover children up to 25 and will reduce costs trough competition. Corporations will drop employee's health care like a bad habit since it will no longer be a competitive advantage to have a good heath care plan (competition for enticing employees) and make individuals who are covered now pay into the group plans. It's economics 101 increase demand with a mandate and prices will go up. Mandatory heath care will be another Clinton boon for corporations and a disaster for the middle class like NAFTA. posted 04/02/2008 at 00:05:42

The fact that McCain was beaten by Bush the last time shows that McCain is really a default candidate just like Bob Dole was in '96. The Republican Party nominated McCain because they think he has the best chance to win in the fall based on his biog. But make no mistake as a politician McCain is a very flawed candidate. He inspires no one, is more dull than Hillary as a speaker, is mean spirited and is testy at best, has no vision for the country, is linked to the Iraq war, is plagued with gaffes, knows nothing about the economy when that is the biggest concern of the voters and is less believable every time he opens his mouth. posted 04/01/2008 at 23:48:43
Actually Clinton and Obama trained their guns on McCain's feeble "economic plan". McCain has no economic plan except for drafting young people for his other wars. There is a 90% likelyhood that McCain will need to institute a draft to fight his new war with Iran. He is already giving us the same lies that Bush has given trying to link Al Queda with Iran. Anyone who paid attention to the Obama campaign versus the McCain campaign early in the primary season could see that Obama's vision for this country was night and day with McSame's stay the course message (stay the course of the Titanic I would add). He said in every war from Vietnam to Iraq McCain wanted to bomb MORE.

A war veteran who promotes war is the worse warmonger possible. Eisenhower was a great man, great veteran and great president because he knew that wars were a necessary evil that's why he ended the war in Korea. His presidency would actually be worse than Bush's because he will start other wars. I always ask trolls how is McCain going to pay for a 100 years war and/or occupation in Iraq? I have failed to get one answer after posting it over a dozen times. Both Clinton and Obama have come correct and say how they are going to pay for their health care and other plans. But McCain gets a free ride from the media because no one asks how is going to pay for 100 years in Iraq. For the first time since the Revolutionary war we are borrowing foreign money to finance a war. Basically Bush has brought us back to square one. I guess that's what conservatism really means. Clinton Says Obama Wants to Stop Votes

Again Clinton supporters want to change the rules in the middle of the game like seating FL and MI delegates per faux primary results. Caucuses are the purest form of democracy because the people are fully engaged in the process. On the contrary something like a mail in vote is a form of Democracy for Dummies because people who would never bother to show up for a primary would vote and college students and transients would not be able to vote in many cases. Oil Chiefs Say High Prices Not Our Fault

The Bill Clinton years were a boon for corporate America "The news that more than 60 percent of U.S. corporations failed to pay any federal taxes from 1996 through 2000 when corporate profits were soaring"

http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2004/04/b45142.html posted 04/02/2008 at 03:33:50
Corporate America has had a boon with regard to not paying a fair share of their taxes for 50 years. People need to know the facts. Back in 1950 corporations paid 4.8% of the US GDP in taxes which is about the total amount of the deficit this year. While in 2003 corporations have only paid 1.3% of the US GDP in taxes. While payroll taxes have increase from 1.6% of GDP in 1950 to 6.8% of GDP in 2003. Payroll tax is the most punitive tax to the middle class because about 90% of it comes from the middle class. Individual income taxes rose from 5.8 percent of GDP in 1950 to 8.3 percent of GDP in 2002. The regressivity of the Bush tax cuts has made this increase much more of a burden on middle and low-income taxpayers. Obama and Clinton want to rightly repeal the income tax breaks for the rich. This is a very important argument to understand when discussing taxes with trolls. Trolls only want to talk about corporation tax rates which misses the point because these tax rates are only paid on income left over after deductions that are slanted to favor corporate interests. While the tax rate is high for corporations Republicans like Romney try to conflate these rates to the tax burden in the US which is the third lowest out of the 30 richest nations.

Hillarycare will be an unmitigated boon for the insurance industry and corporate America just like NAFTA was. Corporate America will drop health care coverage for their employees and force them to pay for 100% of their own insurance premiums. Lately we are supposed to believe that a 12 year old survey, calling himself a professor in a campaign mailer and referring to a family legend is as bad as lying about being a in combat situation. The reason people don't care about these trivial matters is because Obama was in no way trying to change reality. Al-Sadr Pulls Fighters Off Streets

Another MISSION ACCOMPLISHED moment that did no accomplish anything than getting more people killed. Al-Sadr is getting just what he wants more political power and recruits to fight the occupiers and their allies. posted 03/31/2008 at 01:01:16
I already see right wing bloggers trumpeting Al-Sadr's request for a truce as vindication of how well the Iraqi troops have done to squash the rebellion. Unfortunately this is the way Al-Sadr works if you see how he has been successful in the past. Al-Sadr is getting exactly what he wants more political power through force. Every time the Iraqi government tries to close Al-Sadr down he orchestrates a limited forceful response just to show them the power base he has in Iraq. posted 03/31/2008 at 00:58:25

Iraq Fighting Underscores Power Struggle

The biggest reason it underscores that the surge is not working is because the surge never had the intended results of attaining political progress. In fact if anything the surge had the unintended consequence of letting Shia militias like the Mahdi Army regroup and strengthen their hold on Iraq. posted 03/30/2008 at 16:07:07

Op-Ed: Obama Was The First To Play Race Card

Just to prove this guy is doing the same race baiting he did in The New Republic a month ago, but now he is doing it to help Hillary win PA.

This is the same guy righting the same column in another newspaper. He should be sued for breaking his own copyright. The argument did not fly in the New Republic it does not fly now.

I saw him interviewed after the first time he published this nonsense and he had the nerve to say it was a good strategy by Obama and the Clintons fell into the trap. He has no credibility whatsoever.

The interviewer kept on pressing him on Bill Clinton's SC statement trying to marginalize Obama and he had no answer. posted 03/31/2008 at 22:33:17

Obama Overstates Kennedys' Role In Helping His Father

The press is doing their job looking for anything to be balanced. The really story is that everyone who knows where McCain came from is dead or senile. posted 03/30/2008 at 21:43:01
This is like Hillary saying she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary when he actually climbed Mount Everest five years after she was born. I would not call her a liar for saying that either. It was probably just a family legend all families have.

Anyone who is trying to make this a gotcha moment is just being an idiot. posted 03/30/2008 at 21:41:22

Please it's not like he had a fake recollection about what he knew as fact. He was not born yet. posted 03/30/2008 at 16:18:43
This goes in the category of family lure that may only be partly true. Just like when Hillary's family told her that she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary when she was actually born 5 years before he climbed Mount Everest. Anyone who does not have these wife's tails in their family are just not Americans. This is a staunch case of silly season overload. posted 03/30/2008 at 16:16:41

Cash Strapped Clinton Fails To Pay Bills

I have just read where Hillary did not pay almost $300K worth of her staffs health care premiums for at least two months. This is irony at best and hypocrisy at worse.

I guess they didn't surf to HuffPo because how much money Obama received was reported here every time the numbers were determined. posted 03/31/2008 at 00:49:37
She definitely has. It was her campaign to lose and her staff is far to over paid, but then again she picked the staff and their pay. Besides giving Wolfson almost $270K a month to be a pit bull, it just seems like blatant corruption to give Mark Penn's company so many millions in business. It's similar to Cheney giving no bid contracts to Haliburton, but of course on a smaller scale and no lives were lost. Bad comparison I guess. posted 03/31/2008 at 00:47:35
The parallels are definitely there, good post. posted 03/31/2008 at 00:42:29
The only question I have is can Hillary use her general election war chest after the primaries are over? I really don't know if she can it would be a sham because she would just be pissing other peoples money away after a lost cause. posted 03/31/2008 at 00:33:31
Just analyzing it objectively how can she continue her campaign past PA or at best past NC or IN? It seems like even though she won the popular votes in TX and OH she still did not get enough new donors. Even if she wins PA by 10 points or more than loses NC by 10 points or more and squeaks by in IN she will run dry of funds. No one is going to give her anything on good faith credit if she keeps on sticking it to small businesses. posted 03/30/2008 at 21:56:59
The real problem I have here is that she is misleading her own supporters. She claimed she got something like $35MM+ last month and spouted it all of the media to make her sound viable. Yet the vast majority of that money came from maxed out contributers and cannot be used for the primaries. While the vast majority of Obama's money is coming in from small contributers. It just seems like Hillary's supporters have been duped as well as the small businesses. posted 03/30/2008 at 21:52:10
I am deeply troubled by this with the economy being so bad. posted 03/30/2008 at 16:21:42

Hillary Clinton Deluged With Calls For Her Withdrawal

Hillary is a wonk and is a great Senator because of this fact. She loves to get down in the details but does not do as well with the big picture or managing people which is the vast weakness of her campaign and campaign strategy. Face it if she was a good strategist with a vision she would have won this election hands down. She would be great as a majority leader in the Senate or as Vice President where she could detailed plans like health care into action that a president does not have time to do. Basically a president needs to be a type of Renaissance person how can form a vision forward for this country while legislators need to be technicians that can do the daily work. Hillary would be great to lead the debate and details on health care for example. posted 03/30/2008 at 16:02:30
Obama has no chance in PA for a couple reasons including this is one of Hillary's "home" states. The old Democratic establishment is unsurmountable in PA because of Rendel, et. al. posted 03/30/2008 at 15:55:37
The majority of Democrats think Obama is qualified. He has more years of elected service than Hillary and more foreign policy experience that Bill Clinton before he was elected the first time.

The whole affirmative action argument is complete nonsense. Obama has had to earn most of his votes while Hillary was the default candidate or Democrats in the beginning. I like someone who said this; if Bush was half black and raised by a single mother and his grandparents his goal in life would be to be fries manager in a Wendy's. Hillary is the one who did not earn her votes just like Bush. posted 03/30/2008 at 15:54:01
I'm an Obama supporter but Hillary should stay in the race until the primaries are over. It helps Obama for her to stay in the race as long as she campaigns clean like she has recently. I think both Democratic candidates should pivot their attacks towards McCain and see who is most effective against him. This would help both candidates and the Democratic Party. Face it the negative campaigning has hurt both sides, especially Hillary's so she needs to put the kitchen sink away. posted 03/30/2008 at 15:47:53
I do not agree at all. It will just show that Hillary enabled Bush with her Iran vote and propagate another war. posted 03/30/2008 at 15:43:13
