New Russian President: U.S. In No Position To Dish Out Advice

That we know of...

Unfortunately we DO have a rather long and storied history of political assassination of our leaders. So maybe, just maybe, we should get off our high horse? posted 07/03/2008 at 08:25:56

McCain Calls For Better Electric Car Battery, Proposes $300 Million Bounty

That's only part of the solution. Every house and business in the country should be mandated to install solar and win generators in an effort to become self-sufficient. Other technologies, like geo-thermal and tidal haven't even been tapped. Industrial applications of solar and wind are now just becoming widely adopted. Add in developing technologies like algae and biofuel and our ability to secure our energy self-sufficiency in short order is not just a pipe dream.

I think the biggest challenge we have is getting gasoline out of car engines and into more efficient generating systems. Car engines are notoriously inefficient at using the available energy in petrol, running at about 6%. If we could run that in a gas turbine that runs ~30% efficient we are way a head. If we were to capture the waste products (heat and CO2) and use them to generate power, we can likely increase that to near 50%. The heat can be used to power a steam generator and the CO2 could be sequestored into an algae biofuel plant, used to power another turbine. The technologies are there, we just need to exercise better judgement in using the fuels available. posted 06/23/2008 at 18:19:54
"Why not have gas pricing based on the MPG of a vehicle? The the higher the MPG, the lower the price of gas. If one is willing to drive a gas guzzler, then they should pay a higher price."

That's the way the current system works. Those that drive fuel efficient cars are rewarded by spending less to fill up their fuel tanks. Those that drive gas guzzlers get dinged when they fill up more often.

Shifting to an electricity based economy is the best solution for everyone. The number of jobs it would create to revamp our current infrastructure would be a boon to the middle class. The incredible level of invention that would take place from such a challenge would create a new export economy for the technologies created. The infrastructure gap isn't that large if the government encouraged people to make their homes energy self-sufficient through solar and wind. Its very doable. All it will take is leadership from Washington, and sadly McCain is showing more in this regard than Obama. posted 06/23/2008 at 18:06:51

Media Under Intense Scrutiny During Campaign

The media should police each other and make sure they maintain some journalistic integrity and hold up a standard of neutrality. The reason the country is in the state it is in is because the media did not do their job and allowed one particular ideology, and one particular "news channel", to hijack the national discourse and inject a never ending stream of propaganda and hate messages against any position that countered that ideological stance. It is time for the media to find that centerist position again, and stay there. posted 06/13/2008 at 11:07:07

Keith Olbermann Backlash Fueled By Declaration Of Katie Couric As "Worst Person In The World"

Katie Couric - Worst Person in the World? No, not by a long shot. Worst Person Associated with a Journalistic Entity? On this particular occassion, YES. In fact, every time she tries to pass herself off as anything other than bimbo she really is she falls to that level. She should just go away and leave her laughable legacy where it is, before she drags CBS News even further into the sewer.

Olbermann is one of the few commentators out there that has the ability to articulate a position based on the facts. He's right on the money 99% of the time. It would be nice if some of the other talking heads would emulate him and try to get their heads into the real world. Instead we have out of touch dweebs like O'Reilly, Hannity, Blitzer, etc. MSNBC has a solid one-two punch with Matthews and Olbermann, but really hurt themselves with Dan Abrams. If they sent this guy, and his cabal of yellers, back to small claims court where he belongs, and replaced him with a Rachel Maddows vehicle, MSNBC would completely dominate the Cable News/Commentary market. Oh, and MSNBC needs to put Pat Buchanan out to pasture. His views from the 1970's are no longer relevant and are, to be honest, quite embarassing. There are much better Republican voices out there. posted 06/13/2008 at 08:42:19

Hoppin' the Hillary Bandwagon

Right on the money. Clinton has shown herself to be a political opportunist, and this was taking advantage of an opportunity t get back into the graces of some Democrats. The reaction has been quite over the top. I will continue to be skeptical, and have a bucket of water handy, until Clinton starts doing the things that a good Democrat would do, and get out there and work her ass off to get Obama elected. Actions speak louder than words, and I want to see some positive action from Clinton before forgiving all her past sins. posted 06/09/2008 at 08:26:23

The Second Vote

Looking at your profile there is no doubt that you're a Republican troll. Lots of talking points, especially on the climate change discussion, and nothing to back them up. This is just another comment where you have zero to back it up.

If Obama is weak, what is McCain? McCain embraces Bush doctrine, and that same doctrine has brought this nation to its knees both financially and politically. Major change is needed and Obama is the only one presenting that change.

The United States has been walking around with its fly down and toilet paper on its heel for the past seven years. The rest of the world has known this, and has been politely trying to point it out. It's time for America to wake the hell up and get its political house in order. Obama will bring order back to our government and work with the rest of the world rather than against it. posted 06/08/2008 at 13:54:42

You don't have a clue what you are talking about. Free trade has killed this country, especially the manufacturing sectors. That can be traced back to deregulation and the advent of the free trade concept. Free trade in its own right is an oxymoron, as the Byzantine rules and regulations applied to specific industries add up to greater restrictions than regulation ever would have provided. Free trade was suuposed to increase American exports, but the only export it increased was well paying jobs out of this country. Also, access to cheaper and superior goods from other countries is held up because of the the inane rules in the FTAs. Free trade does not exist and is only an advertising gimmick to be used on the gullible to bilk bilions out of the country's economy and treasury. posted 06/08/2008 at 10:35:17
It is that sheer arrogance and narrow-minded approach that managed to get George W. Bush two terms in office. If we Americans continue to believe that we ARE the world leader, the world police, the world moral leader, and on-and-on, then we have to start making decisions with a global perspective in mind. This is very hard for a country where the average Joe on the street can't even name the 50 states or pick out more than two of the G8 countries on map, that is if they even know which countries have membership in the G8 to begin with. The myopia of the average America is stunning, considering the hubris displayed in regards to this country.

The United States has traditionally been held as a shinng model of all things progressive. America has been considered just and fair; a place where everyone has a chance to live the American dream. That belief is fading, as is the trist of America. When we elect bordeline retards, who are manipulated by power hungry sociopaths for fun and profit, we impact the rest of the world. We Americans need to understand the collateral damage that our decisions in the voting booth have around the world. Remember the people of Iraq, and the suffering they went through because of the will of the American voters. We have a responsibility to elect officials that have a global perspective and a cooperative strategy. The world is watching with good reason. posted 06/08/2008 at 10:12:37

Obama Found Out Clinton Was Dropping Out From Media, Politico Reports

"and a in my opinion leftist bordering on communist-muslim party that hates the USA"

That's all that needs to be read in this post to know what a hopeless douchebag the author is. The rest is mindless garbage without any thought what so ever. Consider...

* Clinton couldn't properly organize and manage a campaign to challenge for the party nomination, and now she's going to organize a third party? Good one. I needed a laugh.

* There are "poor loser" laws in quite a few states that prevents someone from running for office after losing their party's nomination.

* Hillary is not "patriotic for the U.S.A." in any shape or fashion. She is in it for Hillary Clinton and Hillary Clinton only. After all, "What does Hillary want?"

* Those 18 million voters will likely only boil down to about 2-3 million hardcore supporters. Already voters in California and New Jersey have completely changed their tunes on their support of Clinton. Other voters in other states will do the same as Clinton's antics wear thin.

Bottom line, the Democratic Party made the Clintons, and the Democratic Party can break the Clintons. Time for Hillary to STFU and do what she is told for a change. posted 06/05/2008 at 15:42:39

The bigger, and more important question is, can the media get their poop in one pile and make this become an issue? McCain gets free pass after free pass after free pass. There is no serious repetition of this narrative in the zeitgeist. This is one instance where there are FACTS to support a story, yet it is not splashed all over the front pages of papers and magazines, and is not on the top of the list on the 24/7 cable news shows. Obama was nailed to a cross for Wright, which had ZERO to do with execution of the duties associated with POTUS, but McCain's obvious issue with memory (amongst other deminished capacities) and knowledge of the issues tht are crucial to managin the nation are pretty well ignored in comparison. Our media is grossly derelect in the duties and they should be pounding McCain into submission. I know we have a cultural tradition of respecting our elders, but someone has to start calling what this is; incompetence. posted 06/05/2008 at 08:27:56

Obama at AIPAC: Some Doubts Eased, Others Created

The fact that no one was completely happy with the speech means it was right on the money. Obama could have easily paid lip service and kept the Jews in the audience happy. Instead he spoke to all parties as adults and set out reasonable expectations for all to think about. He was right to drag Jerusalem into the discussion as this will be a sticking point for all involved. Lets get everyone thinking about it early, and have them come to the table with potential solutions, not just a bunch of whining and crying. posted 06/04/2008 at 19:07:23
