Lehrer Says "NewsHour" Money Woes Are Worst Ever

I lost my respect for Jim Lehrer after hearing the stories a few of years ago about him angered over people speaking out against the Bush administration on his show. The show does at least devote real time to real news, making it more relevant than the overtly commercial networks, but I'll take Amy Goodman and Bill Moyers any day. The NewsHour is about as useful as Harry Reid.

Like earlier commenters, I choose to send my money to someone who knows how to use it - Barack Obama. I guess PBS will just have to keep milking the corporate cows that got them this far. posted 05/19/2008 at 01:14:26

Hillary Agonistes: Why Doesn't She Concede?

At this point, it would seem incredibly odd for her to quit: "Hey I just slaughtered my opponent in West Virginia, so now I concede, so I can slaughter him again in Kentucky without even pretending to try!"

It would certainly look better if Obama clinched it on his own by gathering up the necessary remaining superdelegates and then having Oregon put him over the top. I think both the Clinton people and the Obama people understand this and are making it happen.

Muscling out Clinton at this point is kind of stupid IMHO. posted 05/14/2008 at 12:46:19

Latest Indiana And North Carolina Polling Averages

Well said (albeit badly typed) - I agree with all your points except the last one. Yes, the tax-credit is foolish and foolhardy, but her proposal was not a foolish error. If it is an error at all, it is an error of cynicism. She has calculated that the Indiana electorate is too stupid to understand that the tax credit won't trickle down to them. This lack of respect for the voters has been a keystone of Clinton's late success, and it may in fact get her the nomination. If the race ends up between McCain and Clinton, this is the approach that will win the presidency.

W. Bush showed everyone that even an idiot can get himself elected if he doesn't care about an informed electorate. But if you win with smoke and mirrors and fear cards, you lose any mandate to effect any real (and desperately needed) change. Your only mandate is to play more fear cards and blow more smoke.

Obama certainly has his faults, but if this awful system of triangulation and winning by .01% is to stop, he's our best hope to lead the way. posted 05/05/2008 at 00:56:27

Editorial: My Fellow Clintonites, It's Time For Obama

Go ahead and stick with a candidate that will pull anything to get elected, the good of the country be damned. A candidate who refuses to quit even after the game is well over. I personally have already had 8 years of that kind of candidate and am done with it.

Obama has done what what it takes to win the nomination. It's just taking Clinton an extra 4 months to realize it. posted 04/06/2008 at 00:17:07

Clinton Under Fire Over False Story Of Health Care Horror

Questioning authority begins with questioning your government (and the people running for it). In a healthy democracy, the newspapers would be the ones doing the questioning, but the republicans and Murdoch have been very effective in destroying the media's status and role, so that they are now considered an enemy of the people rather than another governmental check. Please don't accept this.

Let me remind you that it is your $100 million candidate that you're relying on to stand up to "big money business." The same candidate who promised to continue to take money from lobbyists because they represent corporations:

Hooked on Hillary

I don't think this about her being a woman. People who don't like Hillary can point to any number of gender neutral reasons. Dynasty fatigue & her penchant for calculating triangulation are chief among them. I'd say this is more about being against the couple than just being against her.
To expect older women to blindly follow her because she's an older women is a bit insulting to older women. There are other qualified women out there who would be much better presidents than HRC, with much more impressive resumes that are based on more than being some guy's wife. posted 03/31/2008 at 01:07:58

Florida Superdelegate Introduces New Argument To Seat The State's Superdelegates

As an Obama supporter, I don't demand that Clinton quit. I just don't see, at this point, how she can win in a manner that won't alienate the majority of the Democratic party. Obama hasn't employed the slash and burn tactics that Clinton has, so I think the party could still get behind him.

Because of her present position, Clinton doesn't seem to have any means to win other than tearing down Obama. That just doesn't seem like a viable method for a Democratic victory in November. The current polling seems to agree.

I'll vote for the Democrat, whoever it is. But I'd prefer to be happy about it. posted 03/27/2008 at 01:35:19
