New Polls: An Unexpected Uptick for McCain

My feeling is most "undecided" middle of the road white folks are looking for any reason not to vote for Obama. I've always thought this. I said it of the Ohio polling numbers the came out other day that showed Obama with the lead, I said you can easily add a 5 point swing for McCain because white folks wouldn't be honest with the pollster. Hell 90% of Americans believe America is ready for a black president, some would say that's pretty good but I'd say that leaves a hell of a lot of wiggle room for McCain and none for Obama. We'll see but despite Obama's great reception over seas the reality in terms of him convincing white Americans he's better for the job then McCain is a 45 degree up hill battle. The Democrats' National Security Hangover

"It's the economy stupid!"

Obama just needed to win some national security points against McCain and sure up his defense when McCain attacked him on those issues, the fact that Obama's trip has been such a coup for his national security beliefs doesn't mean he should become the national security democra. There's no particular 7 day trip that can help McCain on the economy in the same way that Obama's has helped him on National security, so it's time for Obama to attack McCain's weak spot---bread and butter issues. This is a no-brainer in my opinion. posted 07/22/2008 at 10:36:23

Hillraisers Donated Less Than $20,000 To Obama In June

Obama raised 52 million last month, would it be nice if the Hillraisers did a better job? Sure, but Obama's campaign doesn't hinge on their success and when it comes to future dealings with the president they may find they have extremely limited access, which is, of course, as it should be.

Besides Obama supporters haven't done anything to clear Hillary's debt--though we did give 5 times as much to a candidate who isn't running for president, but I digress... posted 07/21/2008 at 17:16:37

McCain: Hagel "Wrong" On Iraq But I'm Glad He's Going With Obama

The presumptive nominee said he is "pleased" that Obama will be accompanied by Hagel, "who has military experience, who has knowledge of these issues."

Ok, that doesn't make any sense. Obama is wrong on his foriegn policy decision as far as Iraq goes because he hasn't talked to folks on the ground. Yet McCain says Hagel is well informed on these same issues, though completely wrong on the issues. Ergo, according to McCain whether Obama goes to Iraq or not he's wrong on the issues, unless he comes back and agrees with McCain, in which case it's a flip-flop.

Why isn't such political slight of hand called out for exactly what it is? Is the MSM so simple that they can't see it for what it is or are they just plain old cowards unwilling to call McCain on on his flim-flam artistry. I'm guessing it's a fine mix of both. posted 07/17/2008 at 14:27:11

It was never clever. It's an insult used as substitution for legitimate argument. for some reason some people, including Barry Blitt, get so wrapped up in their own intellect that they can't see that the most important thing in a election is your brand and defining that brand before the opposition does. Now before Obama has had a real opportunity to define himself Mr. Blitt has created the perfect poster child image for the bigots to shoot off with their hateful whisper emails. The same emails that have cause the Obama campaign serious issues through out the primary and general election.

The only reason I can imagine Obama having an issue with this is if he is still in the midst of planning his European tour and he wants to keep scheduling flexible in case it makes since to leave in the first week of August rather then the end of July. Announcing the scheduling conflict would just reveal his itinerary to the press and we all know Obama's gone to great pains to keep it under wraps.

Rove Ignores Subpoena, Refuses To Testify

The Supreme Court confirmed the legitimacy of this doctrine--executive privilege-- in United States v. Nixon, but only to the extent of confirming that there is a qualified privilege. Once invoked, a presumption of privilege is established, requiring the Prosecutor to make a "sufficient showing" that the "Presidential material" is "'essential to the justice of the case.'"(418 U.S. at 713-14). Chief Justice Burger further stated that executive privilege would most effectively apply when the oversight of the executive would impair that branch's national security concerns.

First: Let's start with qualified privilege. Karl Rove has stated publicly that he hasn't talked to the President about anything in regards to the Don Siegelman case, and the hiring and firing of court appointees so there aren't any discussions with the executive that can be qualified as privileged and this is according to Karl Roves own statements on the matter.

Second: Executive Privilege hasn't been invoked, it's been claimed by Rove but to invoke privilege he needs to appear in front of the committee.

You may applaud this governments use and abuse of executive power to undermine the peoples right to know what is going on in their government but you are in the minority and as well as on the wrong side legally. posted 07/10/2008 at 13:26:00

Obama's Faux Iraq Flip-Flop May Finally Die

Lets get honest here, the corporate press and the 24 hour news cycle needs a news theme for any given day, something that will drive viewers to watch, and continue watching. There's no interest in getting it right. The interest is drumming up viewership and selling news papers. Getting Obama's statement in the right context would get few viewers, get it wrong, call his Iraq statement a flip-flop and it's now a major story worth at least 2 days of coverage.

Corporate media. If you understand that any corporations mandate is to make year over year profits then everything done by extension of that corporation should automatically be scrutinized as a method to adhere to the mandate. Why was Rev. Wright news for a solid month? Not because there was any news there but because it made good ratings and that adhered to the corporate mandate. Get the viewers first, worry about credibility later. Fox is #1 in the ratings based on this very line of thinking. Is it any wonder that the rest of the corporate media has been taking notes and following suit?

Mr.Linkins, the next time you're completely confused by the inanity of corporate reporters and wonder how the hell they got it so wrong, follow the money. posted 07/09/2008 at 14:17:49

The issue of debt and irresponsible spending isn't a "peter pan" attribute which is why I won't address it. Woman have equal problems in this regard. But the need for family and children has more to do with the woman's birth cycle then men acting as boys. The fact is the year a woman turns 30 and every year following the chances of her giving birth drops considerably. For men this is of little concern, for woman it's of huge concern and here in lies the issue. Woman penning columns about men as boys is like men penning columns about woman being prudes. The offering opinion is misguided from the start by the writers personal tastes and emotional perspective.

The responsibility of being a father, a faithful husband and what is means to be a man in today's society isn't gleaned through osmosis or imprinted on the Y chromosome, it's something that needs to be discovered through time, self discovery and experiences-both good and bad. To the men who get it by their mid 20's, congrats. To the men who get it by their mid 30's, congrats. In either case woman get men who are truly ready for commitment, understand the responsibility of raising a family, and most importantly: these men know themselves and in a society of men being forever defined by woman, it's important that a confident man can pass on such self confidence to their children. posted 07/03/2008 at 16:14:59

"If Hancock is really as bad as it sounds, could it spell doom not only for Will Smith's sure-thing status, but also the superhero film as a genre?"

This quote goes to show just how out of touch or deliberately dishonest some of these critics are. The last Hulk movie many thought would've killed the entire franchise but low-and-behold look what happens with the latest film. posted 06/28/2008 at 11:17:03

Jonathan Weisman, Washington Post Reporter: Obama "Much More White Than Black"

I don't see the need for classification at all. Each individual defines where and how these lines are drawn. It's certainly not the job of the Washington Post. If you feel the same way tell Mr.Weisman just that.

Impossible: Finding An Expert Who Says McCain's Energy Plan Provides Short-Term Relief

It's "voodoo economics" because all this talk doesn't take into account the inevitable increase in demand over the span of ten years. America would see a quicker decrease in oil price by doing away with the Enron loop hole rather then pulling more oil out of the ground. posted 06/23/2008 at 16:47:27

Press Dissatisfied With Treatment From Obama Campaign

"Wow, WOW, WOW! "

Just a little too dramatic maybe, Heidfeld?

Considering the press went a solid month with Rev. Wright, and bombarded him with questions-that had already been answered-- about Rezko 4 days before an extremely close primary election in Texas and Ohio, I think Obama may have a trust issue as it relates to the press and their motivations. Go figure. posted 06/20/2008 at 07:59:30

House Dems Capitulate On FISA, Telecom Immunity

Why do democrats seem to have an all or nothing attitude? Don't you realize that attitude has given you nothing for over 30 years. You don't represent the majority in America and so there must be a middle ground. You aren't winning with your high minded ideals so get over yourselves. The fact is the federal government, right or wrong, promised immunity to the telecom industry. If you don't like it, go after Bush and McCain, all that congress has done is allowed the telecom industry the opportunity, through the legal system, to get what was promised to them by the corrupt Bush White House. To do otherwise could mean trouble down the road when information that is crucial to national security is needed and the telecom companies give a big FU to the government for fear of endless lawsuits.

After 8 years of being firmly on the right you can't expect every element of the nation to immediately be on the left. You have to start in the middle and pull everyone to the left over time. The lefts Holier then thou attitude is why you've seen 1 democratic president in 30 years. posted 06/19/2008 at 14:57:05

Obama Campaigns For Pro-War Democrat

If so then I'm mistaken and so is Obama. posted 06/19/2008 at 14:58:33
It's not an excuse, it's reality. Obama wants to win and win big, a majority to be more precise, all in order to better bring about the policies he's promised. You basically said what I did, the question is do you think "it's all about winning" or do you think it's all about maintaining a moral high ground, even within your own party. You can't pass health care reform, make government more transparent, enact environmental reforms and such fighting against congress. You need a majority, that's the reality. Now will some see this move as weak kneed? Sure. But in my opinion if it helps get done the major work that needs to be done in the next 4-8 years it's well worth it. posted 06/19/2008 at 14:35:28
This democrat isn't influencing policy as far as Iraq goes and in order to quickly implement the type of change Obama and America needs, Obama needs a majority in the house and every seat helps. What's the alternative? Sending the Dem out to die and letting the republican win? Obama is an idealist but he's also practical. If the dem wins he owes Obama and that'll show up in his votes later on. posted 06/19/2008 at 13:59:39

Mark Wahlberg Slams The "Ocean's" Movies: "The Second One Sucked!"

Probably because his role in the Departed was stellar and a scene stealer, even among the best actors in the industry. That being said he's honest, Oceans 12 was full of monumental levels of suck as was Planet of the Apes. He doesn't claim to make better movies then Clooney or that he's a better actor, how could he after the garbage that is The Happening was released in theaters.

The masturbation that is the Ocean 11,12,13 press junkets is well known and quite sickening in my opinion. Props to Wahlburg for telling it how it is. posted 06/17/2008 at 15:11:37

Right Wing Outraged: McCain Brags Of Supporting Clinton's Supreme Court Nominees

We Canadians are on pins and needles but if you had asked us four years ago are Americans dumb enough to re-elect George W. Bush we would have said 'hell no'. As it turns out Americans were dumb enough, so my faith right now is in the younger voters, blacks and Latinos. I'm pretty sure in the end white America will be scared into voting for McCain. In the end Obama will be seen as to Black for Reagan democrats and their ilk. posted 06/16/2008 at 18:03:38

Let's get real here, the Republicans can't win on the issues so they'll try to win with dirt, misinformation and lies. Ignoring the dirt and taking the high road is exactly what did in John Kerry. GOP Operative Releases Obama Muslim Ad

This type of attack will be effective. It's a part of the right wing narrative of "do we really know who this guy is" add to is Ayres, Rezko, and Wright and Obama has a real problem, of this fact there can be little doubt.

To say that America is smarter now then they were 4 years ago gives far to much credit to Americans. The home of the brave has been guided by fear for a long time now. Why do you think you're always at war? War helps elect republicans, Bush started an ill advised war then got re-elected because Americans trusted him to get them out of the quagmire that he got you into because he was percieved as being tougher on National defense then the democratic candidate.

The only thing that can really save Obama from such attacks is well known governors Senators and local politicians calling such smear attacks 'typical republican fear mongering tactics' link such tactics to the Bush administration and the propaganda campaign that got Americans into the Iraq war.

Obama and his surrogates need to define his story to the American people before the GOP and 527's do. posted 06/11/2008 at 11:22:01

Obama Launching "Joshua Generation Project"

Separation of church and state is like the separation between oil and water. You can't very well say the oil is separated from the water but the water is not seperated from the oil. It just doesn't work that way. That being said there is nothing wrong with being guided by a moral compass born from religion. The problem becomes if you insist that moral judgment extends to, and directly effects, individual rights and freedoms or attempts to usurps high school science for dogmatic teachings. posted 06/10/2008 at 11:19:30

Iraq, Not Economy, Defines Presidential Debate

McCain may want it to be about Iraq but it really really is a loser for him, especially if Obama ties the economy to the war, which for some unknown reason he hasn't done yet. Just wait until gas prises keep rising and Americans are still losing jobs at a record pace.

In any other year the whole idea of democrats being weak on defense might work, not this year. There have been too many failures in the Bush administration and and keeping such policies in place, as McCain is willing to do, is a non-starter in a election year where over 80% of people think America's on the wrong track. posted 06/08/2008 at 11:51:41
