Obama: Clinton Can Run "As Long As She Wants"

Of course she should stay in the race!

I am an Obama supporter and at 36, this was the first presidential primary in which I've voted. Sen. Obama has said from the very beginning of his campaign that the American people should be more involved in government, especially since it is our government. Voting is probably to most important way to participate. We must be participants and not bystanders and hold our elected officials accountable and responsible.

It's unfortunate Florida and Michigan voters are left out of the contest, through no fault of their own. But as ironic as it is, it is in that spirit many believe it is unfair to allow Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina to be the sole arbiters of this very important process. posted 03/29/2008 at 22:42:36

Obama Aligns Foreign Policy With GOP

Obama was talking about PAST presidents, not the nominee the Dems are trying to defeat. The Clintons reverence of McCain is unprecedented and a betrayal to the party's objectives for this election. McCain has yet to prove he'd be a president as significant as the ones Obama to whom he often refers. posted 03/29/2008 at 22:59:48

Time Is Not On Our Side

Mr. Bruhns, thank you for your post. For the record, I would like to state I am an Obama supporter and was against the war from the onset. However, I am a bit concerned about pulling out of Iraq, especially with regard to what may be in store once we do.

The Bush administration either underestimated or was completely willing to disregard the Iraqis' backlash to this war (and now occupation) of their country. It appears that if we ever pull out we are opening Iraq up to becoming another terrorist base from which Al-Qaeda and other anti-American terrorist groups can operate. I am 100% behind withdrawing troops immediately. However, we must ask ourselves if we are willing to subject the American people, here and abroad, to attacks by terrorists? Do you think this will open us up to another attack on American soil? Do you think this is potentially a price to pay for an "illegal" war we waged against Iraq (Saddam Hussein)? As a New Yorker who was on my way to work in Manhattan on September 11th, it I may be I am a more sensitive to this possibility. posted 03/29/2008 at 22:29:02

I'm not talking about surrogates and campaign aides. I'm specifically talking about the former president of the United States and his remarks. I definitely hold Bill Clinton to a higher level than others, as a former "leader of the free world".

Candidate surrogates constantly take cheap shots. I happen to think questioning the patriotism of an American citizen running for president is one of the most disrespectful things one can do. When a former president does it, it is deplorable.

As for the McCarthy comparison, McPeak is right. He's throwing suspicion and doubt about a man's patriotism in the same fashion McCarthy did. Yes, it's a stretch, but the train is on the right track. Where I come from, it's "calling a spade a spade".

Can someone tell James Carville that comments like these keep the old Bill Clinton supporters tipping to Obama? Every time Bill opens up his mouth with this rhetoric, Hillary loses another super delegate.

Hillary won't get the nomination and at this point, Barack's chances of winning get slimmer with each day she remains in this race. If she manages to steal this nomination black people will vote for her because they know McCain is not an alternative.

I think you're right about this country not being ready for a black president. It will take some time and I hope it's in my lifetime. posted 03/22/2008 at 20:34:51

Is Hillary Positioning for 2012?

This is something the MSM should be discussing.

We really need to evaluate Hillary's commitment to the Democratic party. I'm certain if Obama (or any other worthy Dem) was in a similar position with no mathematical way to arrive at the nomination, he would have dropped out- better yet, there would be calls for him to drop out by this point. And to continue to attack fellow Democrats in such a way says a lot about Hillary and Bill Clinton and their surrogates. They are certainly blooding up Obama and history shows that if they continue to the convention, the nominee will lose.

I think this post is spot on! The Clintons are calculating and it's looking more and more obvious that they are setting themselves up for a McCain victory and another stab at the nomination in 2012.

I think we, the voters, need to start getting on the phones and sending emails to our government representatives and to the super delegates to demand some swift action before she ruins it for the Dems in November. posted 03/22/2008 at 20:18:14

I like Carville, but he's wrong on this one. And if he calls out Richardson, he should call out half of Obama's campaign because it's made up of people who were in the Clinton administrations.

I don't fault Hillary Clinton for the way she runs her campaign, because it's obvious she's not running it. I fault her for hiring Mark Penn. He has done more damage to her campaign than Bill Clinton, Doyle and Ferraro combined. I admire Bill Richardson for calling Mark Penn out of his unfortunate response to Richardson's endorsement. Mark Penn should be forced to pay back all of Hillary's individual contributors with the enormous fees he's charging the campaign.

Clinton Camp "Essentially In the Red"

I've seen several people make mention of her strategy for 2012. But the assumption would dictate that she won't get behind Obama in the general election, he'd lose, McCain would be elected and serve just one term. If she does not get behind Obama in the general, she'd toast in 2012. That is a mistake she cannot make. I know we, as Americans, have short memories. However, this primary/ caucus process will be etched in the memories of many Americans for election cycles to come. posted 03/21/2008 at 21:54:16

The Day Hillary Clinton Knew She Had Lost

As always Mr. Jenkins, you have very insightful posts. Hillary's campaign was a true disappointment after Feb. 5. This is when her surrogates and campaign made it impossible for her to win. She was reduced to a negative campaign and talking out of both sided of her mouth to win- trying to get the delegates from Florida and Michigan to count, when she initially agreed they would not.

I'm saddened by the end of this process for her. I hope she returns to the senate unscathed and continues to do good work for her constituents in New York, including myself. posted 03/21/2008 at 22:59:00

I am a Democrat and an Obama supporter. There is nothing Hillary Clinton can do to make me vote for a Republican or stay home on election day this year, not evening lying, cheating or stealing her way to the nomination. As much as I cannot stomach either Clinton right now, I am voting for Democrat in 2008, regardless of who it is.

I hope the thought of 100 years of war in the Middle East, right wing supreme court justices and more tax breaks for the very wealthy are things you can stomach for the next 4 years. posted 03/22/2008 at 16:13:06

This is not true in "practice". I am an Obama supporter, but he can't choose when he wants to be white and when he wants to be black. Unlike Tiger Woods, he's chosen to live his life as a black man. While it does not take away from his ethnicity as a mixed race person, he walks a tight rope if he calls himself African American, but continues to defer to his whiteness when convenient. I have not seen him do it, and I don't doubt he's aware of its ramifications. posted 03/22/2008 at 10:43:38
It's a flawed strategy because we all lose. However, I do agree with you that this is their strategy. It's sad to think that Obama would have already been the nominee for the Dems and campaigning against McCain. He's going to be the nominee, but coming out of the gate 4 months behind. posted 03/22/2008 at 01:10:10
The Clintons really believed they were going back to the White House. Iowa scared the crap out of them. While Bill Clinton said the presidency is not owed to any candidate, even his wife, they are in disbelief and feel Obama stole Hillary's moment. In my opinion, Hillary should have run in 2004. This country was yearning for the Clinton years. But that's hindsight. posted 03/22/2008 at 00:57:09
In my opinion, Hillary would have had this whole thing wrapped up if it wasn't for Bill's remarks in South Carolina. I voted after that primary, in New York and voted for Obama on Super Tuesday. There is something lacking in the logic of the Clinton campaign. Maybe it's sheer disbelief or simply arrogance that keeps them going in this suicidal spin. Each day Hillary, Bill, Mark Penn, surrogates and aides to the campaign continue to speak, they weaken the chances of a Democrat winning the White House. A high ranking Dem needs to call them out on it. Bill Richardson tried to do this today. Nancy Pelosi is itching to call them out. I wonder what's stopping her, or anyone else for that matter. posted 03/21/2008 at 23:37:52
The less Bill Clinton speaks the better his wife's campaign looks. Period. It's the thought of Bill Clinton back in the White House that makes people crazy. I hope she divorces him after this is over- when she loses the nomination. Then I'd vote for her when she runs again in 20??. posted 03/21/2008 at 22:13:59
Interesting observation and a sentiment I've had about the last few presidential election cycles. The only president and/or presidential nominee I've been truly excited about in my 30+ years is Bill Clinton. I wonder how many Americans look at presidential elections as "the lesser of two evils" or "the devil you know versus the devil you don't know".

I'm truly excited about an Obama presidency and it's a great feeling. I'm sad for you that you don't feel you have a horse in this race. posted 03/21/2008 at 21:26:59

Obama Endorsed By Bill Richardson

We are a race-based country. Our societal castes were built upon status and that status was based on whether you were a slave (of African descent) or non-slave, then wealthy and poor. If you are not 100% white, you are "other". "Others" are usually forced, by societal pressures, to associate themselves with the non-white part of their make-up.

Having gone to a private school in New York and college in Virginia, this is the reality. It is a reality that Barak and Bill R. share and it's a one of pain, but also one of strength of character. posted 03/21/2008 at 22:06:49
I really admire Gov. Richardson. He completely called the Clinton campaign out. His response to Mark Penn's comment about his endorsement coming too late (post-Texas) was classic. Obama, Clinton And McCain's Passports Breached: Two State Dept Officials Fired, Investigation Underway
