Lou Dobbs Almost Calls Condi A "Cotton Picker"

Actually, not only was he CORRECT in what he stated about how comments regarding race are taken out of context the very fact that Huffpo would single out his figurative use of cotton-pickin' as suggestive that he's racist only confirms his point. Does anyone honestly believe that the phrase, despite its origins, makes anyone a racist? If, for example, I call Hillary's campaign a disaster am I calling it a terrible star? That is the word's etymology. Huffpo is thus busted and actually making Dobb's point for him. posted 03/31/2008 at 20:35:29

Reading The Pictures: The Mighty U.S. Trained And Supported Iraqi Army

This pic doesn't show anything. Video would be more appropriate. Assuming the description is accurate, it only underscores the stupid mentality of the Bush admin., like a boyscout trying to help an old lady across the street only to find her beating him to death along the way and screaming she doesn't want across the street. Face it - the Iraqis want their own identity, not to be Iraqi-americans. Toppling Saddam was NOT in US interests and remaining in Iraq under non-negotiable terms with Iran is simply unrealistic. The Bush admin simply can't admit they f*cked up 5 years ago and persistent denial has become their foreign policy strategy.

ala, Dead Iraqi policy sketch

Should Obama Drop Out of the Race?

Bill, I agree with you on this one, but we are in a rather small minority. You're argument isn't convincing, because it doesn't address the concern that critics are raising. The fear is that this will weaken the resolve of the democratic party, as it has in the past, against a more unified republican party. The democratic endeavor to place a party member in the Whitehouse will self-destruct. The reason I agree with you, however, is that partisan politics does not belong in the oval office. Let the parties have both houses of congress, but let the People have the Whitehouse. Check all party loyalties at the door. posted 03/31/2008 at 08:06:40

Carville Unloads: Richardson Misled, Promised He'd Back Hillary

The thing I hate most about political strategists and advisors in general is that they are only concerned with party loyalties and winning at all costs. They will talk about the "big picture", but their universe is a small one indeed. Richardson may have mishandled the matter, as Carville laments, but if the man's choice risked burning bridges with the Clintons and came from his conscience, then Carville is mishandling the issue. posted 03/28/2008 at 10:50:14

Lou Dobbs Mocked In Commercial For Hispanic Film "Under The Same Moon"

This one won't make you cry, but you might actually get the point.

btw, if you actually listen to Dobbs, or read his articles you should notice that the focus of criticisms are not with immigrants - its with the federal government, which has come to serve corporate interests and ultimately neither the citizens nor illegal immigrants. posted 03/27/2008 at 09:32:12

CNN Response to War Coverage Criticism? Just Call 'em "Rabid"

Ratings/money driven broadcast media is made precisely to reduce and trivialize everything it touches, whether intentionally or not. The Daily Show is regarded as a news phenomenon, because it is on a channel that is ostensibly dedicated to comedy. This gives Stewart and Colbert special license to speak truth to power before a national audience. If Jennie Moose had done the exact same report on the Daily Show, Josh would've had nothing to say about it, because context is everything. posted 03/27/2008 at 10:05:05

Robin Williams' Wife Files For Divorce

Williams, like most great comedians is probably much more interesting at a distance than in close proximity. I couldn't imagine living with someone I could never take seriously or take too seriously as the case may be. posted 03/26/2008 at 16:31:49

Western Antarctic Ice Chunk Collapses

Anyone familiar with the butterfly effect (Chaos theory) knows that small changes have a tremendous impact. Some skeptics and critics of global warming do not believe that small subtle changes mean anything. But if we imagine large portions of ice melting into the oceans we could see changes in ocean salinity and pH, which will affect ocean life, and what affects ocean life affects the land and atmosphere. The fact is no one really knows what affect these changes will have, since the available information is only a fine slice needed to make long range predictions. The science is simply too young. But we do know that entropy makes future predictions less accurate proportional to the square of the distance in time we are trying to predict, given a working set of data. The planet will likely be fine for thousands of years, but any assurances that it will remain habitable for human life, even in the near future are ridiculously naive. posted 03/25/2008 at 16:24:17

Watch: Anderson Cooper Asks James Carville, "Dude, Aren't You Mr. Washington?"

Carville voived an attitude that is common in party politics - Loyalty to the party comes before loyalty to the ideals of this country. I'm not defending Richardson entirely. Richardson said he was offered nothing for his endorsement. If that is true, then Richardson has made his decision at great sacrifice to himself. He has burned his bridges with the Clintons and chosen with his conscience, which is what we should ask of all voters. Party politics marginalizes most Americans. Let the parties have the legislature. Give the People the Whitehouse. posted 03/25/2008 at 08:41:41

Fox Hosts Claim Friday's Walk-Off Was A Joke

Their argument begs the following question: If it was a joke, why didn't they keep it running (or walking as the case may be)? When stuff like this boosts ratings you don't explain it. You go with it. You expect and hope for precisely the media fall out this little episode experienced, and instead of trying to defuse it you take advantage of the mixed chemistry of the hosts. It seems apparent to me that Fox producers realized how bad it looked for them to be bashing Obama, particularly when Brian stormed off the set. He came back to do the next segment, because like most of his he has a mortgage to pay. It may not be true of all journalists, but the well-paid ones prostitute themselves to the interests of their executive masters and know when to censor themselves. posted 03/24/2008 at 14:10:43

Jim Cramer (Kind Of) Owns Up To His "Bear Stearns Is Fine" Comments

Cramer did NOT own up to his statements. He attempted (poorly) damage control to soften the obvious fact that even the cleverest and most articulate experts actually have no clue what's going to happen from one day to the next. Playing the market is like playing the lottery for everyone from the newbie to the (so-called) experts, because the public veneer of market activity is only the tip of a much larger ice berg, and the US economy is the Titanic. Cramer is a guy who knows just enough to convince people that his opinion is worth a shit, and this little blooper simply revealed otherwise. posted 03/23/2008 at 16:53:45

Mayhem At Fox News: Anchor Walks Off Set, Wallace Rails Network For "Obama-Bashing"

I saw much of the speech, though not all of it. I and many people found much of what Obama said rather refreshing and candid, disagreements notwithstanding. He didn't simply go out there and insult his audience with sound bites, like FREEDOM,DEMOCRACY, LIBERTY. Yet these clowns reached as far as they could to find "typical white person" and that was all they heard. They couldn't even give him the benefit of his bi-racial status of knowing how each views the other. Sad indeed. posted 03/21/2008 at 12:56:35

Joe Klein 'Stingray' Comment Shocks, Embarrasses CNN Colleagues

I'm not sure exactly how this passes for news, but it does bring to my mind the inherent callousness that news brings to daily life. A tragic freak event involving a stingray killing a woman when it landed on her boat made national news. The fact that millions of people now know about this constitutes that woman's 15 minutes of fame, and Klein's statement reflected that. As tasteless as it was, people do this all the time. The business of news is to report the freakish and unusual and push idioms and slang into and out of public consciousness. Is it any wonder we live in the A.D.D. society? posted 03/21/2008 at 08:39:36
