MissingAmerica

I'm a senior who has seen and done a lot. I used to wish wisdom had come at an earlier age, but I realized that I am the sum total of my experiences. I chose to improve, and I did.

The one difficulty I'm having in my growth is understanding how our political and economic climate could have gone so far astray from what it was. I want to know at what moment we ceased to be able to sleep with the windows and doors open, or enjoy nature without fear of attack. What we one considered normal is now considered foolhardy.

I want America back, and I will continue to voice my opinion. After all, age has one other huge advantage besides wisdom and senior discounts. I can speak the truth as I see it. They used to say crazy, now they say senile. I don't care what they call it, I'm still going to say it.

Peace is more powerful, and peace is a choice. We need leadership in this country that remembers that.

The Flip Side Of Dem Victories: A Widening Ideological Divide

This is supposed to be about what is best for America. This is supposed to be about upholding the Constitution and preserving a government of, by and for the people with freedom for all. Fed's Direct Loans To Banks Climb To Record Level

If this isn't a bandaid with cheap adhesive, I don't know what is? First, it's not the bankers that need the money -- it's the homeowners. An example. I know one young family that was forced to move because his job took a great deal of commuting and the gas was too expensive. They put their house on the market for $20,000 less than appraised. Then Bush signed into law a $7,000 break for those who purchased either new homes or foreclosures. This left this young couple in the middle. An investor offered them cash -- at $100,000 LESS THAN APPRAISED! They rejected the offer and are praying that something will happen. This is only one example of what people are going under this dismal leadership we've had.

As for the banks, the government bails them out and they don't learn. A tv ad yesterday: "Want to buy a home, but don't have the money? Think you can't afford the payments? We'll help you get into a home with little or no money down. Poor credit? We can work with you. Now you can own the home of your dreams." This is what started this in the first place! He's only giving them enough money to hold them over until they do the same damn thing.

John McCain: Obama Unfit To Protect The United States

One more thing to get off my chest. Mr. McCain would have us believe that it is diplomacy and terrorism killing our brave soldiers in the Middle East. This is Bush thinking. What has been proven to be killing our soldiers and so many more is Bush's illegal war against, and continued occupation of, a country which was no threat to us. As for terrorism, one insane act by a madman in the Middle East that killed over 2,000 was just that, an insane act of a madman. Bush responded with arrogance and now over 4,000 of ours are dead, not to mention the millions of Iraqis who can no longer walk the streets, who can no longer walk, who can no longer BREATHE, who don't even have streets or homes anymore. That is what the GOP have done. And terrorism has increased by more than 70% around the world due to the arrogant response.

No, thank you, Mr. McCain. It is time to stop fighting and start talking. posted 05/16/2008 at 08:48:03

First, who is he to declare what is right or wrong? His decisions and actions have destroyed this country and impacted the global community. He lied to wage war against Iraq, when all he truly wanted was to control the oil.

He refers to the "false comfort of appeasement" when speaking of Hitler. Hitler was a madman who wanted power and did not have the mental capacity to reason. Bush's actions would indicate that he is personally acquainted with this subject. He is arrogant, and his foolish actions have proven that he has no right to determine what is right or wrong.

She voted on the Iraq war, but I can forgive that as a lot of people were duped by the Bush camp. What lost me to her was her willingness to turn on her own party by, first, stating she and the Republican nominee were the only two qualified to lead this country, when clearly the Republican nominee has proven to be anything but a good choice for a new direction we so desperately need. Second, when it was discovered that her claims about her Bosnia trip were verifiably untrue, she attempted to deflect attention by bringing up the old distraction, once again going against her party.

She has turned into a GOP, and that is why she has lost my vote. If I had always been for Obama, and he had been the one to do this, he, too, would have lost my vote. It's about what is best for America, and I'm not so sure that Hillary is. posted 05/13/2008 at 10:53:57

We want equal pay for equal jobs, and we want our own choice in how we choose to exercise our faith or not. Moreover, we want to return to a peaceful country, with our money returned to our school system and our scientific laboratories. We want to be in charge of our own destiny, and that means returning manufacturing and jobs to this country. That means no more taking money from our current landlord, The Peoples' Republic of China. In other words, Mr. McCain, take this as a sign that we want America BACK! posted 05/07/2008 at 09:13:24

Obama: North Carolina Win A Victory Against "Politics Of Division"

Good one! I, too, look forward to inauguration day and the swearing in of an honest man who brings hope to this country. I look forward to the first time we can refer to "President Obama". He is a man who gets that we must progress and do all we can to clean up the mess that George Bush has created. It takes a good man to stay calm and remain a voice of reason in the midst of the distractions created by his opponents.

We have the right man at the right time. Let's unite behind him and help to bridge all the deep divides left by this current administration. As for the current administration, I have faith that Obama will deal with them as is appropriate. We may not get Bush out of the White House but, hopefully, we can get him into the big house. posted 05/07/2008 at 09:05:40

Harry Reid: Clinton's Iran Comment Is "Not The American Way"

Fact is that if we take a stance to obliterate one country, other superpowers take a stance to obliterate us. After Bush, they're just waiting for their chance. By the time it's through, who started it would be a moot point, as obliteration would encompass the entire world, not just Iran. posted 05/06/2008 at 21:33:54

Next best thing to being there. Thank God his parents were able to reach him; what a frightening event for them and their son. Modern guns should not overheat. This is yet another sign of what Bush is putting our troops through. One could suspect that he has failed to plan for their return to the U.S. because he knows the weapons will not protect them in battle.

Our troops deserve better. We will continue to pray for Phillips safe return to his family. posted 05/08/2008 at 09:37:57

Democrats Set To Defy Bush On War Bill

How many times have we heard this, and how many times have they backed down? How many times has Bush vetoed? How many times has Congress overridden the veto? How many times has the President won? Doesn't it equat to how many times the American people have lost? McCain Woos Conservatives With Promises On Judges

A perfect reason to keep McCain out of office. I believe that the greatest freedom we as human beings are given is that of free choice. Each of us has the freedom to choose our path in this life and, in the end, it is no one else's business. To stack the highest Democratic court in the land with those who would tell a woman what she may or may not do with her own body and life brings this great nation closer to the realization of theocracy every day.

When will people get that the Middle East is an example of what will happen to this nation if the government keeps invoking God as the rule of law, especially in a country where freedom of religion has been embraced. The Middle East is a mess because of religious law; don't let that happen to us. Do not vote McCain into the White House. Additionally, we should impeach those who are in there now. posted 05/06/2008 at 12:44:10

McCain's Catholic Committee Full Of Controversial Figures

I like to think that we are becoming more enlightened and more able to think for ourselves. Our founding fathers believed in the separation of Church and State, and we are now experiencing in this country the inherent hatred which goes along with the incorporation of those two. It seems our founding fathers were so much wiser.

Faith is best served on an individual basis, with each person choosing how to think and live, rather than a government telling us what is "right" or "wrong". The Middle East is an example of the perfect storm when sectarian theocracies rule a people.

We must think for ourselves, rather than elect another religious-based administration. We have had "religious" rule for nearly 8 years. What we have is a killing field in the Middle East, a crumbling infrastructure, weakened education system, violence and widespread poverty -- much like the Middle East. Take America away from the religious and return it to the Americans. posted 05/06/2008 at 10:12:41

Post-War Veteran Suicides May Exceed Combat Deaths: U.S.

This is such a sad situation, and certainly another area of this insane war which Bush never even thought about. The in-and-out scenario he pictured when he decided to conquer a foreign country has proven to be devastating on all of humanity, and most certainly our troops and their families. Bush has sent these brave people to die for this country; he should have prepared to take care of them on the slight chance that they would live.

Having used his family and money to escape serving in a war zone, he has no idea what it is to suffer the hardships associated with the inhumanity of war. He prefers to convert democracy to a barbaric culture, as our troops give up their lives for democracy.

It is time to end this insane bloodshed and bring our troops home. Before Bush, we were all about humanitarian efforts, and I pray I live to see the day when America earns back that respect which we have lost through this administration's madness. We must impeach. Sadly, we must do so through a Congress that has forgotten this option.

God bless these brave souls for their sacrifice. Let's push Congress to help those who survive Bush's war. posted 05/06/2008 at 10:20:03

Dead Kentucky Derby Filly the Elephant in the Room

Thank you for writing about this. I noticed the headlines in the newspaper this morning proclaiming Big Brown's victory, with nothing about this terrible accident.

I watched an interview on You Tube with the owner of Eight Belles, telling how many races she'd won, including how many recently. I had to wonder how he could have felt comfortable with putting this filly in any race.

Having spent most of my life around horses, I know that, as a two-year old, their bones are still thin and fragile. Even the famous Lippizaners are not trained until they are at least five, and they do not show until the age of 7, because of the strenuous nature and the massive weight.

To run a two-year old that hard was inviting this tragedy. It's so sad that valueing the horse has taken a back seat to raising the value of a horse. God speed to Eight Belles, who no doubt is now running painlessly through greener pastures. posted 05/05/2008 at 00:27:26

Clinton Defends 'Obliterate Iran' Comment, Obama Calls It Bush-Style 'Cowboy Diplomacy'

Once again, I'm with Obama on this one. "Obliterate Iran" is the last statement we need floating around. These people are so quick to talk about using nuclear power and, as George Bush proved, some of them may be crazy enough to do it. But these are not cannons and muskets; they are nuclear weapons designed to wipe out civilizations. One bomb would lead to another, and that would be the end. The only thing that would prevent laying blame on either America or Iran would be the lack of human beings left on this planet.

It is time to put down the weapons and start talking. That is the only way civilization will survive. posted 05/05/2008 at 00:20:12

Howard Dean On Fox News Sunday: Your Coverage Is "Shockingly Biased" (VIDEO)

What concerns me about the massive turn of GOP to the Dems is that while they may be doing this because they are indeed turning their backs on the GOP, many may be using the tactic of voting for Hillary in the primary so they can turn around and vote McCain in the General elections, thereby throwing the presidential election for the third time.

What troubles me more, however, is that one even thinks such things about this nation's process. We always took it for granted that the elections were fair and reflected the will of the people. Bush, Cheney and Rove changed all that. I truly miss the America in which I was born and raised.

I guess all we can do now is hope that these who have turned on the GOP did so for the good of Democracy. posted 05/05/2008 at 10:05:57

Late-Night Jokes Of The Week: Testicular Fortitude And Reverend Wright

Jeremiah Wright is so transparent. He made a comment and the anti-Obama camp jumped on it. Then they continue to take him past his 15 minutes of fame and he grandstands. I have one question for those who continue this controversy? If you feel that Obama was wrong to continue to listen to this bitter old man (who is anything but true Christian in his rhetoric), why do you continue to listen to him? Further, if you want him to have coverage, why not give him a spot on a religious network so you can constantly add clips to YouTube?

McCain Implies Iraq War Is For Oil: Watch Video

The more I see this, the more I realize the truth behind it. He is a favorite son of George's; that's been shown. We usually get scripted speeches and planned excuses. In a Town Hall setting, where the questions are unplanned (except, of course, for George Bush's), the words slipped out in a moment where he didn't have time to remember the lie.

There's a saying from an old book I had, and I never forgot this one: "Never tell a lie, but if you must, never tell more than one a year, because nobody's memory is that good." Obviously, McCain has told more than one lie a year. posted 05/04/2008 at 09:13:53
