As someone who hopes Americans can at least get some new form of public health insurance competition, I would like to offer one quote on the subject of so-called socialism. It comes from page 579 of a very clear explanation of Canada's system in the September 1992 Consumer Reports: "Contrary to what some in the U.S. health-care industry would have you believe, Canada does not have socialized medicine. Medicare, as Canada's health-care system is called, is simply a social insurance plan, much like Social Security and Medicare for older people in the U.S." Good luck this time from the north.I have an idea we will soon find out how many U.S. politicians are in the pockets of the insurance companies.
