Bio
"Wish I was ocean size
No one moves you, man, no one tries"

White boy born, raised, still living in ultra-conservative Orange County, CA. Late-30's. Married. Most of the time I feel like the sole liberal in Orange County, but then I read the comments on HuffPo and realize I am most likely just a left-of-center moderate.

You are most likely reading this because I said something that either pleased you or incensed you. Before you make any assumptions about me, here are my politics:

Registered Independent, loyal to nobody. My love for my country IS conditional!!!

There is no good or evil, just pro-society or anti-society. Anti-society types should be removed from society, just like we do with "evil" people. Right and wrong are subjective, and determined by society, not by really old books whose authorship is debateable.

Immigration then, immigration now, immigration forever. Only in America do we find the notion of having to learn more than one language so abhorrent.

Pragmatism over Idealism.

Personal Responsibility over Banning & Outlawing. We do not grow or learn anything otherwise.

Pro-Life but Anti-coat hanger: keep abortion safe & legal! Banning abortion does not stop it's practice, it only pushes it underground. (See above, "pragmatism over idealism")

The War on Drugs replaces one problem with another. A much worse, more violent one. Kids have easier access to MJ than alcohol as a result. Taxing & regulating the market rather than pushing it underground helps restrict access to minors, reduces the strain on our prisons, and robs gangs & cartels of their economy. (See both "pragmatism over idealism" and "personal responsibility over banning & outlawing" above)

Religion did not exist before man; religion is therefore man-made. God(s) on the other hand, may or may not have existed before man, if at all. And after thousands of years it's become obvious that we won't know for sure until after we're dead, so its useless even trying to divine the intentions of whatever force of creation is responsible for us. Even assuming that this force of creation HAS intentions is anthropomorphizing at its worst.

Morality means doing the right thing even when no one is watching, yet a prerequisite of faith is the idea that you are being watched. As a result, religious morality is always suspect. I do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, not out of some religion-induced fear of punishment in the afterlife. To me, that makes me MORE moral than religious people...I do the right thing WITHOUT the fear of Hell hanging over me. If you only do the right thing because you suspect someone is watching you, regardless of whether that someone is mortal or divine, then you are immoral!

Despite my anti-religious rantings, I fully support the existence of religion, as long as it stays out of gov't. In fact, I am technically a Muslim. Islam is no scarier than Christianity. I married into a Jordanian family and converted due to the fact that Jordan does not enjoy the separation of church and state that we enjoy here, and the only legal way to have spousal rights in Jordan with my dual-citizenship spouse is for me to be a Muslim. Let this be a lesson to all of you who want less separation of church & state here in the U.S...can you imagine your government telling you that you are not entitled to your wife's estate because you're a Protestant, not a Baptist? Obviously what would happen is a lot of people would become Baptists without actually believing in Baptism, just like I had to do with Islam, which I'm sure Baptists would have a big problem with.

I believe homosexuality is perfectly natural. Our species' genetic response to overpopulation. We are hardly the first species to experience this phenomenon. And if you think it's impossible for a species' to instinctually control its own population to maintain balance with available resources, you haven't studied fish enough.

Marriage is about love more than it is about procreation. If that were not the case, then we would not allow couples with no intention of having children to marry. Gay-marriage does not destroy traditional marriage. If I buy a Mercedes and my neighbor buys a BMW, it doesn't hurt my Mercedes or other peoples' ability to buy a Mercedes. I can understand if you don't like BMWs, but that doesn't give you the right to prevent other people from buyiung BMWs. There is no BMW conspiracy to wipe Mercedes' from the earth.

Deficits to pay for War: really really bad
Deficits to pay for Health Care: not nearly as bad.

All living things are food for other living things. That is the design. Even we are food. We feed worms. Cruelty to animals is wrong, eating them is not.

Obama: not the Messiah, just a smart well-read guy, who can seem like a Messiah when compared to recent competition.
