Carly Simon On Painful Past And James Taylor Ignoring Her

I would think it would be difficult to never think of a first husband you deeply loved and had children with, no matter how bad the first marriage became and how good the second one was. Funny that Taylor attended and sang at a tribute to his ex-lover Joni Mitchell but never mentions Simon -- out of a deep sense of guilt, perhaps? posted 05/13/2008 at 09:48:22

McCain to Me in 1999: Bush "As Dumb as a Stump"

Reportedly McCain crashed five times, only two of which involved combat. I would say those other three times are what pedro referred to. Taking out power lines in Italy is not exactly something to be proud of, nor is crashing into the Gulf off Corpus Christi or graduating 894th in a West Point class of 899 cadets. Yet somehow these facts constitute an "attack?' posted 05/09/2008 at 21:02:12

Fox Anchor Jodi Applegate Set To Announce Shocking Family Secret ON AIR

Ms. Applegate's mother did exactly the same thing as Loretta Young, who adopted her beautiful and intelligent "love child" by Clark Gable, Judy Lewis. And why the headline "shocking" secret in regard to Jodi Apple]gate? The word "shocking" was not in the original Post story, just "secret," which it certainly was. What happened is no longer shocking in this day and age. posted 05/07/2008 at 09:11:14

DNC To John McCain: "Stop Whining"

And yet the Swiftboaters lambastedJohn Kerry, a legitimate war hero, lying that he did not deserve his Purple Hearts when many of the critics were not even there. McCain should know that if he too tries to run on his war record, that record should also be scrutinized and held up for intense examination. posted 05/03/2008 at 06:25:19

John Gibson Mocks Rachel Maddow's Sexuality: "Ooh, Lesbians! Yummy!"

And yet, has Gibson ever mentioned Pastor Hagee, the virulently anti-Catholic preacher whose endorsement McCain was happy to obtain, then had to backtrack and say he doesn't share his sentiments about the Catholic Church (which Hagee calls a whore and compares to Hitler)? I think not. Yet there are people out there who watch Faux regularly and consider it "another point of view," without bothering to tune into any other news that would show the world is not like that manipulated by Roger Ailes! As for Ms. Maddow, who cares about her sexuality? No one cares about Ellen DeGeneres' sexuality: her show is extremely popular, and so is she. posted 05/04/2008 at 07:47:24

Baptist Minister Asks McCain: "Did You Call Your Wife A C**t?" (VIDEO)

Not a childish or pointless question. The questioner stated a valid point: a man who would call his wife such an offensive name when all she did was ruffle his hair cannot be trusted to keep his finger off the nuclear button if an Arab leader ruffled his feelings. If a Democratic candidate had done the same, conservatives would be even more indignant. And it's Huffington, not Huffinton. posted 05/03/2008 at 22:26:12

Fox News Lincoln-Douglas Graphic Shows Frederick Douglass

Of course not. Faux is run by a bunch of idiots who apparently not only don't know history but are incapable even of using Google. And those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. All the more reason not to watch Faux! posted 05/01/2008 at 09:56:44

Obama Press Conference: On Bowling, Jello Molds And Threadbare Suits

Elitism was a charge against Gore and Kerry - and both lost. Yes, it's pretty stupid to think that a person's bowling score has a thing to do with his or her ability to be POTUS or anything else, but the yokels in the hinterlands will seize any reason not to vote for someone. I am so disgusted the press has focused on the personae of the candidates rather than their platforms and real credentials, but then, that's part of the reason newspapers and electronic media are laying people off or outright folding, by taking an approach more akin to covering Britney Spears than presidential candidates. posted 04/27/2008 at 14:46:39

Slew Of Gaffes Makes Pals Wonder Why Bill Clinton Is Losing It

Sorry, Bill is NOT demented. He has made a few mistakes -- so do you, but his are made in full view of the press and media. I saw him speak in Pennsylvania for 40 minutes with no notes, ticking off facts and figures in complete, grammatically correct paragraphs. Sorry, but the man does still have the same brilliance that got him (and us) through eight years with no deficits and no all-out wars. It's just the media's perception of him. Meanwhile, McCain makes many more mistakes in his comments and seeks endorsements by crazy prejudiced preachers but gets a free media pass. posted 04/27/2008 at 08:50:40

Arianna On John McCain: Hijacked By The Right

So should people have looked at Reagan as having a liberal mask when he switched from that political philosophy to conservativism under wife Nancy's tutelage? Yet Repubs everywhere revere him. The truth is, many people change political philosophies for a multitude of reasons. So what? The important thing is that Arianna has seen the light of liberalism and is doing more now for that political stance with this site than she ever did for GOP races. posted 04/26/2008 at 15:35:36

I hate to break it to you, but a 24-year-old female is six years past what law enforcement officials consider an adult. Just thought you'd want to know. Not a little girl at all. An adult, not like the teens and younger a lot of these GOP officials like to dally with. posted 04/24/2008 at 10:55:18

Chris Matthews Declares The PA Polls Closed Thirty Minutes Early

Neither is a journalist! Matthews has always been a political hack and Scarborough an actual political candidate. Neither can EVER claim a journalism background, which requires a.) an objective reporting of 2.) facts. Neither can EVER seem to report objectively and they have no idea how to get even a simple fact correct. I don't watch either one. EVER. posted 04/22/2008 at 22:34:35

Prince William Lands Helicopter In Girlfriend's Yard, British Media React

It was part of a training exercise, which isn't frivolous. Maybe the destination is, but maybe the idea was to land someplace from the air which the pilot knew from getting there by land. Who knows? He didn't transport her, in any case. Make love, NOT war. posted 04/21/2008 at 14:33:26

Administration Set To Use New Spy Program In U.S.

Can we all try to remember that Gore received MORE popular votes than Bush in 2000? Does anyone still remember that the PEOPLE did not elect Bush in 2000? And some, like RFK Jr., believe that the people of Ohio did not elect him in 2004? Will we even have a November election that is valid, or will Bush clone McCain continue this assault on the Constitution? The only thing we have to fear is our own perverse version of a government. posted 04/12/2008 at 14:57:01

Obama: No Surprise That Hard-Pressed Pennsylvanians Turn Bitter

You don't have to be a Pennsylvanian to be bitter and cynical about the jobs that have died under the various Republican administrations. During the time when the U.S. steel industry died, Reagan had to duck out the side door of a Pittsburgh hotel. Where can you buy clothing, shoes and furniture made in the good old US of A? Not in Wal-Mart, that's for sure.
I don't think all Pennsylvanians cling to guns out of a sense of bitterness, though perhaps some of my fellow Keystone Staters (that is our nickname, NOT Quaker State, Mayhill) do. I do think Obama needs to stop generalizing about people, including his grandmother's generation.
We were the second state after Delaware to approve the Constitution and want that sacred document restored to its former glory! posted 04/11/2008 at 19:34:39

Same here. Haven't watched Leno in years and much prefer Letterman. I suppose Leno's numbers are higher because the great majority love nastiness. Otherwise, we wouldn't have so many reality shows, which give people an excuse to be cruel and get famous for it. posted 04/02/2008 at 06:09:51

Chelsea Clinton Asked About Monica Lewinsky Again, Watch Video

Actually, if the CEO is that valuable, I'll bet in many companies he would be retained and the intern transferred elsewhere or let go and compensated well. I wonder how many questions about Vicki Iseman John McCain gets these days? Do people even remember the story from a month ago? Let us not lose sight of the fact that McCain presents himself as against lobbying yet somehow advocated legislation this woman was pushing. Lewinsky did not affect the laws of this country in any way, shape or form. posted 03/31/2008 at 17:45:46

Starbucks Refuses To Pay Baristas Court-Ordered Tips

No, because Joe Public doesn't contribute significantly to election campaigns. If you are a major corporation, you can thumb your nose at the court system and no one will do anything about it.
Sounds as if there are problems with this case, if what the posters here say is true about supervisors also acting as servers, though. Glad I don't go to Starbucks because I don't like their coffee and I object to their techjnique of putting shops in areas where there are locally owned coffee and tea shops. As a result, Starbucks puts them out of business. posted 03/29/2008 at 07:12:07

Time Magazine Asks: Can Fox News Survive After The Bush Era Ends?

Faux Noise is entertainment, not news. That's why all the women are bleached blondes with injected lips and skirts, and (the fundamentalist Christian appeal notwithstanding), scantily-clad women are always shown during stories of spring break, beach problems, etc. It appeals to the lowest common denominator in American society.
As for Time, it is a newsmagazine and has often done speculative stories. Unfortunately, more people were only to happy to listen to Faux Noise in the aftermath of 9/11, believing that a preemptive war in Iraq (no WMDs to be found!) would keep us free from terrorism. Instead, we are in a war that not only can't be won, we have mortgaged the collective futures of our children, grandchildren, etc., and will be in debt to China for years to come. have lost the goodwill of the world and have generated thousands more terrorists. That's what Faux has done with faux facts and faux news. Great job, Roger Ailes! posted 03/28/2008 at 14:34:54

US Embassy Personnel In Baghdad Told Not To Leave 'Reinforced Structures' Due To Incoming Insurgent Fire

Dance Off! Chris Matthews: "I Am A Much Better Dancer" Than Obama

Matthews is well known for his man-crushes, especially going practically into a rhapsody when Bush landed on the carrier with the "Mission Accomplished" banner.
But as for his comments on the dancing, Matthews' self-delusion continues. You can tell Obama is being subtle and holding back, but he has the music in him. Matthews is just wooden. But on top of that, he loses his partner, grabs her breast, then makes her fall. What a fool. He's not even a good talk show host, just biased and silly. posted 03/26/2008 at 18:57:51

A Mosaic: 4,000 Americans Dead

Laughing at a funeral is not always in poor taste, so I am not sure Clinton should be criticized. If amusing memories of the loved one are mentioned, it would be a shame not to laugh. Funerals are considered not only sad occasions but also celebrations of the lives of the dearly departed. I have laughed at funerals when amusing events have been recalled and found it cathartic. If it's true Clinton laughed at Ron Brown's funeral, I would have to know the context to tell you if it was in poor taste. Let's not be like Faux News, using one fact to criticize without the accompanying context. posted 03/24/2008 at 12:20:36
