Obama, Clinton Supporters Plan For Inevitable Merger

Good to hear that lee4 because I just read somewhere that 27% of voters who are Democrats over the age of 55, would vote for McCain if Hilary gets the nomination.

My God! That just seems spiteful. Do we really want McCain and Co in office? posted 05/18/2008 at 10:14:04

Chicago Overturns Foie Gras ban

I live in Chicago and I will not patronize ANY restaurant that serves foie gras.
It just kills me that people make such a fuss over this...like their lives are all going to
be a living hell because they cannot eat their foie gras.
Same goes for the snooty moronic chefs who have their jockies in a twist because
they can't serve it.
Like their restaurants are all going to go bust if it's not on the menu.
I would never want to put money in the pockets of someone who insists on using foie gras.
There are plenty of other good things to eat.
Yes, I will definitely boycott and I hope others do as well. posted 05/16/2008 at 09:49:15

Ants Invade Houston, Eat Computers

I have tried all of the natural cures to get rid of ants when I get them. The only thing that works like a charm is this spray called "Bengal".

It may not be natural, but you only need to spray it in the location where they're coming in one time and they are G- O-N-E for the season.

One can of this stuff will probably last me for my lifetime. posted 05/16/2008 at 18:41:58

The Seven Deadly Habits of Truly Miserable People

As far as kids and their rooms I have learned that I must "choose my battles".

It actually amuses me when I ask my teenage son to clean his room. He replies "OK" and he then commences to clean it.

I'll go up at some point and look at it and then when I see him ask him why he didn't clean it. He says he did. And you know what?
He did!

But teenaged boys (and girls too) have different standards. There is no effing way in hell that a teenager is going to clean a room to our standards. It's just not gonna happen. There are way more important things to nag about than a clean room.
For instance, I will nag him til the cows come home about getting homework done, or cleaning up after himself in the kitchen. Cleaning the kitchen is not something that comes naturally to a teenager, therefore, nagging is a necessity.

And I totally agree with WriterGirl. I can ask my husband to do something a hundred times and it will not get done until I'm exasperated. Then I get accused of nagging.
I'm sorry...but if he did it without me asking, or if he did it the first time I asked, it would have never
progressed into the nagging stage. posted 05/16/2008 at 18:54:07

I only started watching this show around 4 years ago, and I have not watched an episode this season. It's pretty bad.
If you miss a good medical drama, might I suggest going to www.hulu.com and there you can find WHOLE episodes of St. Elsewhere. For free.

See The Dress That Got A High-School Senior Arrested (PICTURES)(VIDEO)

Actually, she should not only have not been allowed to enter the prom, she should not get a diploma and should be made to go to summer school for remedial reading classes.
Is she incapable of reading and understanding the rules of the school?
The school has a dress code.
She violated the dress code.
Another flaming example of today's youth blaming everyone but themselves. There is no such thing as personal responsibility anymore.
I really hope that this principal does not give in to this girl and her tirades.
My son's high school has their prom next week. When we got the mailing with all of the information, it was stated very clearly that anyone not adhering to the dress codes would not
be allowed entry. posted 05/12/2008 at 11:28:53

Lindsay Lohan Accused Of Hijacketing Coat

What's your point?

Are you really comparing an animal being tortured for its fur to a bug that munches on leaves for nourishment? I don't think that my eating asparagus is going to ruin the lives of your bugs.

The subject was fur. And you're right...whack jobs are ugly. Sharon Stone comes to mind.
She's a whack job AND she wears fur, which means that she's ugly even without the fur. posted 05/06/2008 at 14:24:44

Nike Founder Phil Knight Pockets Over $1 Billion In Less Than A Month

This guy makes me sick. He built his empire from 'nothing'? Yeah...he built it on the backs of slave labor. Child labor.
I have not purchased a Nike product in so many years, at least 10 years. Just last night I took my son to buy sneakers.
Of course, there were more Nikes there than anything else, and a Nike shoe was the first one he picked up, but when I reminded him about Nike products, he gladly put it down and we got something for half the price.
My son is 17 and I'm proud that he is developing a conscience.
Phil Knight should take some of his billions and give bonus checks to all of the children that worked in his slave shops over the years. That scum bag. posted 05/06/2008 at 09:37:33

Steve & Barry's: The $1 Billion Powerhouse Selling $9 Dresses

My first thought was that they're using sweatshop labor. Although upon further reading, they claim that they don't.
I'm not sure I believe that 100%.
Although, the one thing that would make me believe that they really can make good apparel at a low price is the fact that they don't advertise.
I work in the advertising business, so I know how numbers get thrown around like they mean nothing.
There is a LOT of waste in this business, so if these guys are putting out a decent product
without using any advertising...I think that is awesome.
What a HUGE way to save money. These guys could bring the whole advertising industry to its knees when people find out that you don't need to spend gajillions for people to buy your product.
But I would still like to see for my own eyes that they're not buying goods from

Adam, didja ever think that there are plenty of people out there working who are still poor?

They're called "The Working Poor", in case you've never heard of that phrase...yes...people who work 40, 50 or 60 plus hours per week barely making ends meet.

My daughter graduated from college and works at a hospital. If it weren't for me helping her out when she needs it, she would be considered "poor" as well. And she works more than 40 hours per week and yet she does not have enough left over to "save" let alone invest.

Your arrogance is astounding. Do you pay your housekeeper enough so that she has enough to 'save' and 'invest'? Do you pay her enough so that she isn't poor?

Emma Watson Replaces Scarlett "Too Old" Johansson In Film

In my opinion, Emma is not a very good actress. Talk about emoting. I thought she was HORRIBLE as Hermione. In the books, Hermione was a know it all and she was often exasperated with her cohorts...but she was not bitchy.
She had a vulnerable charm in the books, but that definitely did not carry over into the movies.
In the movies, Emma had a constant scowl on her face...it was very disconcerting to me, and it's like she did nothing but turn Hermione into an over-emoting tween bitch.

I don't think we'll be seeing much of her on the big screen in the coming years. posted 04/19/2008 at 16:00:16

Polygamist Sects: A Further Lesson In Style

The "concern" that these mothers seem to show for their children does not ring true to me.
If they were truly concerned about them, would they let a little girl of 14 marry a 40 or 50 year old and then bear his children?
As a teenager?
It's ludicrous.
Also, what about 'The Lost Boys'? The boys who at the tender age of 13-14 are cast out of the commune to make it on their own because they don't want too much competition for the women?
Many of these boys wind up living on the streets and selling their bodies just to get food to eat.
Where is their concern for these little boys?
If these women cared so much for their children, they wouldn't allow these atrocities to continue.
In the clips I saw, the tears seemed crocodilian to me...lots of sobbing, but no real tears.
Everything they said seemed either scripted or just outright lies.
I do feel empathy for them, I realize that they are victims of generations of this brainwashing, but at some point when you see your little girl or little boy get victimized, do you totally forget how
you felt when it happened to you?

5 Ways To Help A Friend With Cancer

My best friend recently passed away from cancer. She lived on the opposite side of the country from me.
I sent her cards all the time. She loved getting my funny cards. I sent her this funny t-shirt that had "I have Chemo Brain, What's Your Excuse. There is this website, I can't remember it, but if you google I'm sure you can find it...but they have these gift baskets for cancer patients...just funny stuff.
Laughing is a good thing. For everyone.
Whenever she called me, no matter what I was doing, I stopped doing it and would talk for as long as she needed.
Another thing you can do long distance, for someone who is going through chemo is think about their pets, if they have any.
Buy special treats or toys for them. If a chemo patient has a beloved dog or cat, believe me...there is nothing they'd like more than to be able to give them a special treat.
There are so many places that make dinner for delivery...you can send a meal to the family.
And just think about what would make you feel better if you were sick.
Lots of times, it's not the 'patient' you need to send something to, it's the people in the sick person's family that you can think of because that would take so much stress of the person who
is going through chemo and is too tired to take care of them. posted 04/12/2008 at 13:28:26

Gayle King: Oprah And I Aren't Lesbians

If we didn't live in such a fucked up society, people would feel free to satisfy everyone's curiosities as to whether or not they're gay. Nobody would ever have to be "in the closet".
I've always said that it doesn't matter to me personally if my kids are gay, the only reason I wouldn't want them to be gay is because I would not want them to ever face the discrimination and possible violence that so many gay people face.

Workers Strike at Nike Contract Factory

Many years ago Ms. magazine did an excellent expose on the Nike corporation. And it has been many, many years since I have bought a Nike product.
What part of the $100 price tag of Nike shoes goes to the people who actually make them?
Not much.
Most of it goes to the sports stars who shill for the product.
I don't understand how anyone would want to give their hard earned money to corporations like these.
I once worked at an ad agency where one of the clients was a was tennis shoe company....not a brand name, just cheap sneakers. And you know what?
There is very little to NO difference between an expensive pair of Nikes and lower cost shoes.
I actually saw cutaways of the shoes. Same materials.
The only difference is, when you pay for Nike shoes, a huge percentage of the price you pay is going for advertising, marketing and of course the lavish lifestyles of the CEO's.
It's a a free country though...if you don't mind putting money into their overstuffed pockets then go right on ahead.
They're the ones laughing all the way to the bank and those sneakers that you just paid 3 figures for will not last any longer than ones you could have gotten for less than half that.

Food Stamp Use At Record Pace As Jobs Vanish

Wow. You saw a dirty, fat woman buy groceries with food stamps and then pull out some cash to buy lottery tickets.
What's your point?
Have you ever seen rich people descend on baskets of freebies like their lives depended on it?
The wealthier you are, the more you LOVE to get your free stuff.
So, what is more disgusting to you?
An example that we are all familiar with is the swag bags given out at events such as the Oscars.
I was out shopping once with a wealthy European business owner...this guy has millions. He has cars worth more than most people's homes...and he made a huge stink at a perfume counter after buying some perfume, he did not get the 'free umbrella' that came with purchase.
Like he needed some free, crap umbrella with a tacky corporate logo on it.

Cigarette Company Funded Lung Cancer Study

Why do you even need your doctor to tell you to quit smoking? We don't even need studies on this subject anymore. We all know that smoking is not good for you.
More insidious to me, are things like Brazillian Hair Straightening. It's a product that straightens your hair and advertises that it's a protein (keratin) and it's safe for the hair and doesn't cause damage like chemical straighteners. But most people don't know that it is laced with formaldehyde which DOES cause cancer.
Doesn't this concern you? I mean we KNOW cigarettes are dangerous...but there are hair dressers who are applying this shit on client's hair on a daily basis and exposing themselves to dangerous levels of FORMALDEHYDE. How can this even be legal?
It's not even the keratin that straightens the hair...it's the frikkin formaldehyde.
IMHO, this is just as evil as the cigarette companies were back in the 40's and 50's.
What else is out there that is dangerous and we don't know about? It's time to forget about the cigarettes which we all know are bad...let's turn our attentioin to other dangers that are being kept from us...anti-depressants would be a good place to start too. posted 03/26/2008 at 16:26:46

Appeals Court Rejects N.Y. Airline Law

Last summer I had to fly home for a sudden family emergency. It was all very hectic and on the way back, my son and I sat on the tarmac for 3 hours. It was early in the evening, we hadn't eaten anything all day. I finally asked for some pretzels. The stewardesses also organized games for the passengers, which was kind of fun and killed some time. They were extremely helpful and friendly and it the end they passed out vouchers for a free flight for all passengers. This was United Airlines.
I do have to say though, 3 hours is the limit. I think I would have gone crazy if it had been one minute
more than 3 hours. I do think there should be laws passed that limit the amount of time you can keep passengers stuck on a plane that is not moving.
I can't even imagine being stuck for 7 hours, with overflowing toilets and no food or water. That is criminal!
I do have to say though...even under the best of circumstances, that flying is one of my least favorite things to do. posted 03/26/2008 at 11:47:37

Pomeranian With Embedded ID MIcrochip Stolen

Everyone should care.
No doubt, this dog was purchased from a puppy mill anyway. So the owners of the pet store and the thief have something in common: Greed.

People should stop patronizing any store that sells puppies. If you want a purebred puppy, find a reputable breeder. Better yet, go to your local shelter or breed rescue society and get a dog that really needs a home.

Pet Stores should be outlawed. Most of the puppies they sell come from puppy mills and are not healthy and certainly waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced. You buy a puppy from a pet store and you are doing nothing more than adding to the coffers of the greedy owner of the store who cares little to nothing about animals or their welfare. posted 03/24/2008 at 10:17:17
