Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Media Blitz Forces Barack Obama to Face the Angry Black Man Test -- Again

I think Rev. Wright has some good points, but that he is extremely short sighted. He is a product of his generation and environment and his views are valid...to a degree. He goes way over the line for the average non-Black American and his comments are harming Obama hugely!! Just at the point when Obama needs to surge ahead and put Clinton into retirement, Wright has come out and given Clinton (and McCain) more ammunition for hatred and fear. Bad timing ! The man is speaking for himself and for his own reputation. Who cares? He obviously doesn't care what damage he is doing to 'Obama. If he gave a thought, he'd realize that an Obama victory would do a whole lot more for Blacks than his brand of hate ever has.

Wright needs to stay in retirement. His views are archaic and divisive. Obama is a product of a much different upbringing which has spared him the extreme victim mentality that Wright revels in. Just as Clinton and her divisive, old style politics is out of date, so is Wright's ramblings. Let both of them go fishing and let younger foks handle the real work. posted 04/28/2008 at 20:27:13

Clinton Slams Democratic Activists At Private Fundraiser

You're right--she has tenacity and really goes for what she wants. And, right again, if only she wanted what was best for the country, this tenacity would be admirable. Lots of others have had this maniacal tenacity--Hitler, for one. I fail to respect this quality when it is applied only for one's personal good. Don't count Obama out for tenacity, though. Nice guys don't have to finish last. As he said, he's skinny but he's tough. posted 04/18/2008 at 20:29:25

Deborah Kerr Rhymes With Star, and What a Star She Was: She Deserves to Be Remembered, Too

Thank you for this column. I did not even know of her passing! She was one of my favorites, too...a beautiful woman who managed to be both supremely dignified and very sexy. One of my favorite of her performances was in Tennessee Williams' Night of the Iguana with Richard Burton. But I can never forget An Affair to Remember or The King and I. She was really one of a kind. posted 04/10/2008 at 00:29:56

Arianna, you have wisdom, courage and heart. You're not afraid of being your own wonderful, funny, sexy self. I don't care what you wear--you are an inspiration to women. I look forward to seeing how you handle the process of aging. I hate plastic surgery too, but it is discouraging to look in the mirror and wonder who that old woman is. Hooked on Hillary

Great comment, NABNYC. I, too, wince when I hear people praise Hillary for being "tough." There's a wonderful book out, POWER VS FORCE which distinguishes between authentic power and defensive
toughness. Hillary should read it, and then maybe seen a good shrink to solve those early childhood problems. posted 03/31/2008 at 00:46:02
I agree with the Korean professor. For a long time the cant of feminists was that it was male energy that got our world into such a mess and that if we only elected women to office that their natural healing feminine virtues would lead us into a civilization of peace and co-operation. Well., Senator Clinton is, in my opinion, more "male" in the negative sense ---She constantly talks about being a "fighter" and has constantly gone on the attack, to win, over the perceived enemy. At the same time, Senator Obama has constantly shown the best of "feminine" virtues--being the peace maker, turning the other cheek when attacked by the Clintons, and proposing strategies of transcending differences.
Personally I like having someone who is balanced and displays the best of both genders...and that's Obama. He's strong in an assertive, not aggressive way. posted 03/31/2008 at 00:37:13

I agree that the Clintons are "so last century!" Not just the matter of Hillary trying to catch Bill's tailwind, but the whole ethos of "winning at all cost," being competitve instead of co-operative, lying, being divisive, manipulative...etc! We are evolving beyond this and Obama is the man to lead us. That's why the young kids are into him. He is trying to bring us beyond the old divisions of white vs. black, red state vs. blue, into a place where we can see each other as brother and sister instead of enemies. This is what our country and our world desperately needs now! posted 03/31/2008 at 00:07:13

Yeah, the Clintons are always the "victims" of someone, aren't they? For years it was the great Right wing conspiracy..The Lewinsky mess was all Ken Starr's fault! Now it's the great left wing conspiracy. What if she actually was elected President (I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I write this)? Can you see her whine when a leader of some country is attacking us, that they are just a member of some other conspiracy? Neither of the Clinton's has ever learned to take responsibility for their actions. This is a terrible character defect! We cannot afford to have such morally hollow people leading our country in this dangerous time! posted 03/30/2008 at 23:49:02

I like this column, Nora, but I think you are being too generous to Hillary by stating that you believe she started out as an honest person but had to learn to lie to deal with Bill. Somehow this doesn't ring true to me. I think that they are two sides of the same coin, that they are drawn to each other by their complementary neuroses, and that, if they did not have some political race to "fight" for to draw them together, that they would probably destroy each other. posted 03/30/2008 at 23:39:15

A Few Unanswered Questions About Bill Richardson's Obama Endorsement

Monique: You don't think the Clintons are out for themselves?! Whoa! And loyalty? They use people like Kleenex. posted 03/21/2008 at 23:34:36
I would Love an Obama/Richardson ticket! We are living in a world, dear friend, where we have to get past the idea of the USA as an all-white country. With the backgrounds of these two, we could make up for a lot of the damage that has been done to our international relations. I think they are Heaven-sent for exactly this purpose! I am, for the record "all white" and I do not at all feel threatened by this ticket. I would feel terribly depressed if Hillary would win. posted 03/21/2008 at 23:01:32

Suprshrink: Maybe he changed his mind due to the incredibly negative campaign Hillary has waged since he made his initial statement. And Obama's terrific speech on race this week may have been the clincher. I admire people who change their minds for good reasons. posted 03/21/2008 at 22:50:24
I agree with most of your comment. I live in New Mexico, too and also was for Richardson first, then Edwards, and finally for Obama. However the more I see of Obama, the stronger is my regard for him, for exactly the reasons Richardson gave. I am sorry, though, that Richardson did not come out for Obama earlier. I think that his backing would have helped him a lot in both New Mexico and Texas. Possibly in California, too. I don't know what his motivation was for not speaking out. Perhaps he was holding out to see who was the candidate most likely to succeed, for his own political reasons. Perhaps he was just disgusted at Hillary's increasingly negative campaign and Obama's steadily positive one. At any rate I cheered when I heard him finally give his endorsement. I only wondered why HuffPost buried it so deeply in the site....I was expecting a headline. posted 03/21/2008 at 22:43:36
Saying that Richardson is going against the popular vote in New Mexico is highly misleading. Hillary did not win the popular vote by much and Obama won a significant number of delegates. Also--there were huge problems in counting the votes. I am a registered Democrat and have been for several years. When I went to my polling place I was, for no known reason, not on the list. So I was given a provisional ballot. It took two weeks to count the provisional ballots and half of them were thrown out. I voted for Obama but I have no way of knowing if my vote was counted. So don't throw around the idea that Hillary "won the popular vote." She may not have! posted 03/21/2008 at 22:36:54
