I know she leans to the right, but I like Cambell Brown. I would much rather see Soledad O'Brien onthe morning telecast Kiran Chetchney (sp?) and Dan Roberts. The partisan panels get on my nerves. If I wanted to hear spin, I'd turn the channel and watch Pat Robertson or Anne Coulter. Lately, I've been watching Keith Olbermann and on the weekends I watch Meet The Press and Late Edition. I too hold Al Gore in high regards; but, with only 2 months to campaign, it would be impossible for him to talk substantively about anything other than global warming. In Pennsylvania, 130,000+ new voters registered as Democrats. Not surprisingly, 86,000+ Republicans switched the party affiliation to the Democratic party in order to vote in the PA primary. It has become apparent to me that the mainstream media, MSM, is more concerned with "racially charged" remarks by an associate of a presidential candidate than they are about the possibility of electing another President that would once again lie to the American people. Why? I'm an African-American, and I want to talk about ending the war in Iraq and making America more prosperous. Barack was right to avoid the whole issue of race. Only the media and the right-wingers who are upset about affirmatie action are worried about race to the extent that they want to have a national referendum on race and whether a black candidate is electable. Most blacks that I know feel that th laws on the books are serving the black community. At the local level, we continue to fight for a fairer justice system, but that has little to do with national politics at the moment. First, let me say that his speech was historic in regards to race relations in the United States. His candidacy is by no means based on race. His candidacy is based in the belief that the American people desire change and that their goodness makes it possible.

Every historic speech made in America has laid the groundwork for a better country. The provide a vision that inspires to American people to live up to an ideal form of citizenship that is best described in our constitution.

Without a doubt, the single most important speech on race to date in the country is Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream".

In "I Have A Dream", King writes "So we have come here today to dramatize a shameful condition." He's talking about segregation and the disenfranchisement of the black voter. It's an ugly picture, that shows our government failing to live up to the standards that should have been apart of our shared American values system. He writes:

"It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. "

"Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy."

"Those who hope that the N* gro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the N* gro is granted his citizenship rights."

We all know where his speech goes from here:

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right there in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

Now, nearly 45 years later, Barack Obama stands on stage and says:

"I chose to run for the presidency at this moment in history because I believe deeply that we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together - unless we perfect our union by understanding that we may have different stories, but we hold common hopes; that we may not look the same and we may not have come from the same place, but we all want to move in the same direction - towards a better future for of children and our grandchildren."

It has almost never been said in the black community that we have realized Dr. King's dream, but we have. Segregation has ended. All men are equal under the law and have the right to not only vote but to govern. Those were important achievements that should not be overlooked.

We as blacks have been wandering in a wilderness for 45 years awaiting a leader that could take us into the promised land. The land spoken of by Dr. King. The promised land isn't just for blacks but for all Americans. The promised land that King wrote of is a better American. It is an America in which every citizen is given the opportunity to succeed. King wrote:

"We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land."

As I said, it's been 45 years that we've been wandering in the wilderness in search of the promised land without a leader. In steps Barack Obama who says "I know the way to a more perfect union". He says that everything about who he is as a bi-racial American has taught him the way to a better union. It requires a certain understanding of the differences between all of our discourses so that we can communicate and travel together to that place that we all want to get to, a place where our children have good schools to go to, a place were we have adequate health care, a place free of religious strife and the threat of war. He notes that there are going to be difficult dialogues that have to take place like welfare and affirmative action. But, if we undertake the task at hand, together, our union will grow stronger.

First, let me say that his speech was historic in regards to race relations in the United States. His candidacy is by no means based on race. His candidacy is based in the belief that the American people desire change and that their goodness makes it possible.

Every historic speech made in America has laid the groundwork for a better country. The provide a vision that inspires to American people to live up to an ideal form of citizenship that is best described in our constitution.

I support him. His speech was historic. The media took Wright's comments out of context. The lastest poll numbers show that he has rebounded from the smear campaign and now leads Hillary as the preferred Democratic nominee. You have to come over here to HuffPo. Look, I'm not so easily spun by the media to think that this is the vilest thing Bill Clinton could have said. Let's face it. Barack Obama could say all day that John McCain is a patriot and that he looks forward to having an honest debate with him.

But, the Clinton's have got to know that there is a political consequence to sucking the enemy's weewee. They lost the right to say anything positive about John McCain when they said that he had passed the Commander and Chief threshold. John McCain failed the Commander and Chief test.

If the Clinton's continue to press arguments that have failed with Democratic voters, i.e. experience and patriotism which are right out of the Republican playbook, they must know that they will not only lose the support of a MAJORITY of Democrats (e.g. those that think John McCain is not fit to be Commander and Chief) but they will ultimately lose the support of a majority of Independents and Republicans that think John McCain trumps her in experience (she was only a ceremonial figure) and in patriotism (he's a former POW).

Those statements don't confuse me. They tell me that the persons who said them are confused.

You can't say that John McCain failed at the war and yet he's qualified to be Commander and Chief.

We've known for some time that this race is about the delegate count. It's not about the popular vote, even though Barack leads there including FL (he wasn't on the ballot in MI and we all know he'd get more than 0 votes). When taken out of context, Wright's comments seem deplorable. However, that's not the full story.

In it he says that the American government does both good and bad. He in no way cursed the American people or the country. He also called 9/11 an unthinkable act. His sermon was dedicated to how we should have responded. He was not advocating voilence against America. He was calling on Americans to reflect on their relationship to God. Wright probably could have selected a better way of saying what he was trying to say.

Anyway, what we see on TV these days is never the full story.
