The Obama Problem

So, lastjournaliststanding, you actually got it! I couldn't believe that Democrats would drink the Republican cool-aid about the Clintons, and then use that hatred to elect such a centrist candidate -- one who was obviously, in my opinion, less progressive than Hillary Clinton. I'm so glad to see some sensible conversation -- at last -- on HuffPost. Too bad it took the FISA bill to get it started.

Serenity Lost: Obama And The Netroots

Well, Clinton (Bill) supposedly moved to the middle and led from the middle and now Obama supporters accuse him of not being a Democrat, say he should change his registration, etc. But he did manage to win the presidency and keep it for 8 years against a firestorm of Republican hatred, and I know personally that he managed to do a lot of good every day because of regulations he got passed and management of government agencies that he improved from the top down. We need that now, and i though Hillary might provide it. Obama -- perhaps not so much. Anyway, his ideas were never as progressive as hers.

Obama Silent as Democrats Give Bush More Spying Powers

Obama has my vote, because to do otherwise is insanity. However, I have cut off all contact with emails on his behalf and given the several reasons, and said I will no longer donate money and will not do my usual newsletters (I have about 2500 on my list since I was Southern California ACT volunteer coordinator) nor walk my precints. I am no longer going to lead the meetups I organize. Maybe I'll change my mind later, but right now, I have no enthusiasm for this campaign and I'm a political junkie of 60 years! posted 06/21/2008 at 17:28:05

Obama Hires Solis Doyle: A Bad Omen For VP Hillary

I actually don't hate politicians as a group. I only dislike the comments from the Obama supporters which indicate that they believe that Obama is some kind of saint who never heard of politics, and Hillary is a devil who will do anything (murder, torture, steal?) to win. Check out how Obama made it to the Illinois state legislature. What he did was technically legal, but it sure sounds like "anything to win" to me, and it destroyed the political career of a good woman legislator (he admitted that she was). I find Obama to be a pretty typical male. He bragged in his speech that "This is our time" without thinking of how it would sound to all us older women who thought it might finall be "our time." He has a tin ear about women. posted 06/17/2008 at 23:55:25
I agree that most Hillary supporters will vote for Obama. I certainly will. I think that what happens in November is still a toss up, and although I thought Hillary would make a better president AND I think a woman would bring something valued and unique to the office AND as an older woman, I would like to see a woman president before I die, I am not sure whether Hillary's "negatives" as a woman would have turned off men at the ballot box, and whether the Democrats who have drunk the Republican cool-aid about the horrible Clintons as part of their reason for supporting Obama would have further assured her defeat, or if the hidden racists will not be able to force their hands to make an X for Obama, although they may have been rightfully ashamed to say so in public and in polls. If Obama is defeated, I don't believe it will be by Hillary supporters, but by racists. So, although I certainly hope that Obama does win, I don't think the support of women is enough. Remember that some Democratic men may have voted for Obama instead of Clinton because they hated the idea of a women president even more than the idea of an ethnically mixed president. Now, with a white male candidate in the mix, they may be the real defectors to McCain. posted 06/17/2008 at 23:45:47
I'm going to vote for Obama. My check book is staying home, and I'm not walking precincts or serving as chair of regional get out the vote efforts. Maybe something will happen to revive my usual enthusiasm, but every blow from Obama and his supporters makes me more discouraged. posted 06/17/2008 at 23:35:02
I'll put my Democratic and progressive/liberal creds up against yours anytime! I resent your name calling (and to me, being called a Republican is name calling.)

It's my impression that Hillary hired Solis-Doyle, even though she probably didn't have the background for such a top spot, because she was personally fond of her and had worked with her (probably somewhat mentored her, although I'm guessing at that). I think she hung on to Solis Doyle as long as she did, even though the campaign was in disarray, because of that friendship and their congeniality. I'm sure it was wrenching to let her go, and there may very well have been hard feelings. But I doubt that Hillary ever hated Solis-Doyle. posted 06/17/2008 at 23:16:28
I agree with jrterrier that this had no class. It's a particular thumb of the nose because Solis did evidently run a bad campaign, and Hillary's campaign improved a lot after she left. She was, according to most observers, the clear winner at the end of the campaign, although it was too late to catch up. So it almost looks as if Obama is rewarding Solis Doyle for causing Hillary's campaign to fail, and then rubbing it in by putting her in the VP staff slot to signal that he won't consider Hillary for VP.

I'm having a good deal of trouble getting up enthusiasm for my usual hard work in several precincts. I'll vote for Obama, but am offended by a lot, so may send my political donations to local candidates and be less involved this time around. posted 06/17/2008 at 23:07:54

Smears and Tears: How Obama's National Security Week Turned Into the Mendacity of Hype

Thank god for some sanity on Huffbamamania. I can no longer stand to listten to most of Air America or to read most blogs. The Obama supporters are insidious in their attacks. Anyway, as someone once said, it's always OK to attack women and Gays. Everyone just thinks it's funny.

I will have to hold my nose now to vote for Obama. He has two daughters. Does he realize how the treatment of Hillary by his supporters reflects on the treatment of all strong women who dare to reach for the top in politics or public life in general? One day they'll find that it is not their race that holds them back, but their sex. posted 03/27/2008 at 01:51:56

Obama Has Clear Money Advantage

Believe me, there are plenty Hillary supporters that are far from being "casual low information voters." I'm glad to see young people coming out for the election, but I wonder how their information quota would fare in contrast with mine and many others -- we old worn-out women that so many of you would like to see go away.

The casual way that so many Obama supporters show their disdain for older women -- the backbone workers and voters of the Democratic party -- is so offensive. It would be recognized as racist if it were directed at minorities, but as someone said, it's always OK to insult women and Gays. Most people don't even notice, let alone protest. Obama is the father of two girls. If they can't aspire to be president, it will be because they are women, not because they are African American. posted 03/22/2008 at 00:08:44
