Great article and spot on. Just watch Chris Matthews as proof the good old boy white media loves McCain, too. To them 'he has a compelling story" although I don't know what that is. He reminds them of their dad or their favorite coach who was there for them and watched their back. And oh, he was in Vietnam and a prisoner of war which makes him a real man although none of them were ever in the miltary. They all have a little boy's daddy crush on him. They view the election as either a game or part of their own emotional needs for a daddy figure.

I've stayed the course, dumping too large a percent of my income into my 401K, and I never recovered from 1987, 1995 and now this. The average gain of 7% annually that the financial advisors claim may be true only because some are making millions but the average person is making little or nothing. The retirement laws were created by the pension companies who have made multi-millionaires out of company executives and left many of us in the dust. I'm lowering my contribution to my 401K from the max to the amount my company will match and putting the remainder in CDs. I'm tired of funding people who have tax breaks and multiple houses while I toil for a company that reminds us daily of 'the bottom line' and lays off people a few at a time to protect their good citizen reputation. Pammy - Some of my friends support Hillary and some support Obama and they are all wonderful, thoughtful, brilliant women who have worked for progressive candidate their entire adult lives. They would never think of describing a fellow progressive in the terms you have. I'm supporting Obama (a convert from Hillary) and discussed the election yesterday with a friend of 30 years who still supports Hillary and seems shellshocked by the hatred on both sides of this election . We've been activists together for 30 years - she listens to me and I listen to her. I understand why she supports Hillary. She understands why I support Obama. We may disagree on the exact definition of feminist but if you belive women and men should have the same rights and responsibilies, then you are probably a feminist. Go ahead, call yourself a feminist and most people will take you on good faith that you are one. As for the 'movement', well, there is no 'movement but there are an array of feminist organizations - you have the right to agree or disagree with any or all of them or any issue or all issues. Their positions on issues has nothing to do with how you perceive yourself.
