Loud and proud democratic socialist from Chicago, Illinois. I believe in peace, social justice, and understanding. A common misconception about socialists is that we believe in some Totalitarian, Orwellian dystopic big brother government, which is blatantly untrue. I believe in a small government with a big heart. In other words, I believe government should SERVE the people, not police them. I think it's perfectly feasible for a government to respect individuality and freedom while at the same time be there to help those that do not have the means to help themselves. America was founded on the principle that all are created equal, so I believe equal people should have equal opportunities to realize their own pursuits of life, liberty, and happiness. Believe it or not, I also believe in economic freedom. I just don't believe in Reaganomics, and I work for a living so you can't call me a lazy freeloader, sorry goopers. I have no problem with starting your own business, but when you have people making 50 million dollars a year at the expense of sweat shop labor and taking jobs away from hard working Americans, then something is definitely wrong.
I'm also very anti-religion, but I'm not necessarily an atheist. I believe that religion is terribly detrimental to society and our development as human beings. It supresses freethought and scientific discovery, all in the name of "god". If you want to call me an elitist for that, go ahead, because honestly, I have no shame in saying I'm better than you for it.
