Home Economics

I can only respond with a quote from the movie "Sicko" by the man who stated it, Tony Benn, British politician:

"People in debt become hopeless and hopeless people don't vote. See they always say that everyone should vote, but I think if the poor in Britain or the United States turned out and voted for people who represented their interests it would be a real Democratic revolution. So they don't want it to happen. So keeping people hopeless and pessimistic. See, I think there are two ways in which people are controlled. First of all frighten people and secondly demoralize them. An educated, healthy and confident nation is harder to govern. And I think there's an element in the thinking of some people "We don't want people to be educated, healthy and confident because they would get out of control." posted 07/23/2008 at 20:29:57

Lieberman: Obama Couldn't Go To Iraq If It Wasn't For McCain

By Faiz on Aug 20th, 2007 at 10:32 am

With victory in Iraq all but certain, U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman said Tuesday the United States should use what he called "very aggressive diplomacy" to handle Syria and other countries suspected of harboring terrorists.

"I certainly hope military action won"t be necessary against Syria," Lieberman said. "I would guess that it will not be, and part of the reason it will not be is because we were willing to use our power in Iraq and made a very strong point there." [AP, 4/15/03]

UPDATE: A McClatchy analysis demonstrates that Syria is not a major exporter of violence to Iraq. Looking at the origins of the suicide bombers in Iraq since 2003, only 8 came from Syria, compared to 53 from Saudi Arabia.

I don't understand why, since its history is hostile to the black community, the word is used at all by the black community. The black community is giving the word value and by doing so, giving it life. If you want to rid the world of the "n" word, it's got to come from the black community to stop using it. Others will follow suit. posted 07/18/2008 at 06:37:09
The sentiment can be expressed through the word, but if the word no longer evokes a response, it no longer has the power to hurt or offend. Therefore, it becomes null and void.

Why do blacks?

If blacks don't want the word used, they shouldn't use it. And by not using it, the word will lose its power.

Words are only as important as the value placed on them... Take away the value and you take away the potency. Take away the potency, and you take away the offense. posted 07/17/2008 at 17:09:43
It's a word that's given a whole lot of value to a whole lot of people for a whole lot of reasons... Value is given based on demand or usage.

Take diamonds; if people see them as minerals or chemical compounds, with no desire to wear them, they'll lose their allure, luster and value.

Words too if people decide they're of no value, will lose status. So, if it's a word that one part of society places a value on, then the word will have value and given status. If however, that same word is ignored, not used by anyone and given no value by anyone, it will go away. posted 07/17/2008 at 16:39:55

Think. Obama, "blasted" by a strong black civil rights leader will appeal to nervous whites. Rev. Jackson's son stands up for Obama, has a good chance of getting in an Obama administration and you don't think Rev. Jackson has thought this through? Rev. Rev. Jackson is taking one for the team. Good for him. He may just have a shot at seeing a black president after all, and I don't think he'd ever be so shallow and self centered as to allow 50 years of struggle to get in the way. Your jealousy theory is just wrong. posted 07/10/2008 at 09:25:56

Maureen Dowd Becomes Fictional Actor In Obama Smear

Who gets these emails? Do you have to be on some Republican/Conservative mailing list to receive these bogus attacks on Obama...

Besides, if all they do is attack the Dems and the Libs, in whose interest are they serving? The Republicans. So, we at least know who's behind them...

But to be sure, anyone see Bill Clinton lately? posted 07/08/2008 at 20:24:01

Where Is Obama's Truth on Late Term Abortion?

Obama, lay person, not a medical professional. So:

Perhaps he should have been more political in how he responded, but when I heard the termonology of "mental distress" I didn't take it as being a mental illness like severe depression where the mother is either suicidal or homicidal.

Is the "distress" gestational in nature? Is it treatable? What's the severity when we can draw a line or can we ever draw a line? Is distress diagnosed the way pain is diagnosed, varying degrees depended upon one's tolerance level? Who diagnoses it, a psychiatrist or the patient?

If a woman has amnio and finds out her baby has downs syndrome, is that distressful enough for her to be able to choose to abort? Amnio doesn't predict severity, but presence. So, what's your take on that?

Finally, what defines late term? Anything after 3 months? posted 07/09/2008 at 11:31:23
