Harold Ford Heckled Over Fox Comment At Netroots Nation

His support of the FISA cave-in is symptomatic of Ford's right-wing sympathies. It has nothing to do with centrism at all. I the reason I didn't even vote when I lived in TN and Ford ran for election. He may have fooled a lot of people but his heart is right of center, whether it be Gay marriage, religion and government etc.

FISA is forever folks, not a temporary lax in judgement by Obama either. He voted for it and it stays with us. This, from someone who claims to even understand the Constitution. He's a disgrace. posted 07/18/2008 at 18:26:16

Obama Iraq Speech: US Strategy Is Unsound

Notice, the key words are "combat troops'. Obama leaves residuals in Iraq though so all this talk about his sincerity in ending the war in Iraq is just that--talk. He won't end the war and certainly not our involvement there. His honesty about Iraq has about as much credibility as his support for the Constitution e.g., FISA. It appears after his vote for FISA that the Constitution is important to him only in so far as his perception of gaining votes. The Iraq war will go on and on like the Energizer battery posted 07/15/2008 at 15:21:19

After Obama came out of the closet and supported FISA as well as his stand in regard to the death penalty for rape and extending Bush's faith based initiatives with government monies etc, he should be "overthrown" at the convention. Hillary Clinton should have been the nominee. thankfully, she hasn't con ceded yet so there's still a chance for her. Have We Missed the Key to Obama's Leadership Style?

I suppose FISA and the Consititution is a partisan issue--for AMERICANS! Obama caved. This is what happens when someone wants to please everyone. Exclusive: Congress Plans Historic Hearing on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

"As a general rule, homosexuality is incompatible [with military service]," he testified. "But there are exceptions to the rule [...] and individual homosexuals have served with distinction in the armed forces of the United States."

The same could have been said about heterosexuals. My Lai and Lt. Calley, the men who murdered and raped women in Japan and Iraq etc. There's always a bad lot among the good. However, Don't Ask, Don't tell will never be overturned if left to the congress and the senate that gave us FISA and keeps funding the war in Iraq. Reversal will need an Executive Order and I have yet to hear Obama propose that. Good intentions are not enough. It's not just a shift but a convenient ommision that discounts Obama's credibilty. He never told his supporters until after he won the primary that he intended to expand George Bush's faith-based initiative programs and with government money at that. As for FISA, this wasn't a "strategic" decision, it was a cave-in to those who would undermine our Constitution and it has much more meaning than you discount it for. It's the CONSTITUTION stupid! If the Constitution is just something to play politics with as if it were a boardgame then it has as much meaning for you as a game of Trivial Pursuit. Stop making excuses for Obama and realize that this guy is not the wonder of wonders you perceive him as.

I wasn't going to vote because of Obama and FISA and the religious right he's pandering to and a host of other issues such as his intent to keep us involved militarily in Iraq to "counter" terrorism with residuals who will be fighting for thier lives every day, his stand against Gay marriage, death for rape even in "limited circumstances" and anxiety, depression or whatever you want to call it as a means to deny a woman an abortion. I suppose all these things are just "politics" to you but these policies will affect real lives and that's something you haven't even considered. posted 07/10/2008 at 11:35:05

Is Obama Really Moving To The Middle?

"It is clear that Obama has changed his positions to move to the center. It is a well calculated, intelligent decision by an extremely able Politician."

Intelligent? Then where is the core of Obama's beliefs? What does he stand for if he changes his positions on FISA etc? Is there a political conscience there? What are his supporters supposed to think? Yes, his position on 'ending' the war in Iraq never changed. He never commited to bringing all the troops home by even 2013 and said we would keep troops (residuals/troops/schmoops; it's all the same) in Iraq to fight terrorism--so much for ending the war there ). Obama will NOT end the war in Iraq. There'll be a photo-ops of some 'combat troops' coming home but we're there to stay and those of you who BELIEVED him will be more than disappointed if he wins the presidency. Neither McCain or Obama will end it. It's his position on FISA though that now mainly disgusts. I wonder what Hillary Clinton thinks about that. posted 07/08/2008 at 11:46:53

What is he going to change his mind about now--the Iraq war, FISA --again--etc? Obama is human yes but he's clearly what he has always been--a politician--and that should come as no surprise to anyone now. Why are you so surprised Vest? For months others have posted at HuffPost saying Obama is not who you think he is, that he has a lot of explaining to do about issues he chose to ignore e.g., leaving residual troops in Iraq and refusing to answer whether when those troops have to fight for their lives every day if he would send the combat troops he says he'll bring home back to Iraq, Rezko, opposition to Gay Marriage and at the same time support of Gay Rights--at the same time McClurkin etc. Speaking out of both sides of his mouth is a prime facet of Obama's character. (Like every political hack, he now blames the press for the flack.) Not much different than McCain. So let the tears flow. It seems every day e.g., FISA, expansion of government of religion, even 'refining' his position on Iraq, the death penalty in 'limited circumstances' in cases of rape etc, Obama is full of surprises. What you and others didn't realize Vest, because most of you were so busy dragging Hillary Clinton though the muck, was that Obama is an arrogant phoney who used progressives to get where he is, just as he used Rezko to get political ascendancy, and then distanced himself from us. Like he said in his news conference about expanding government and religious ties with government monies to boot, he never was one of us because "if (we) had been listening ..." posted 07/07/2008 at 13:11:31

Everyone was saying what a wonder Obama was, what a new kind of politician he was, that he speaks for progressives etc. It's all a crock. At least she's commited to abortion rights and other issues Webb is not.

It looks as if Obama is going to have to be kept in line if he wins and is going to have to be reminded on a daily basis that the progressessives he courted to win the nomination really want change that works within the Consititution. He's gotten tremendous financial support from progressives and right now it feels as if we might as well have tossed the money out the window. It's the rape issue and the death penalty that really surprised me. None of the other issues which Obama has sided with has. Children sometimes are forced by a parent to lie about rape or just could be plain wrong. This is the problem with Obama I've mentioned several times in past posts. When you have someone (and in this case a black man who a good portion of voters might be hestitant to vote for and one who many still think is a Muslim although he's not), he's going to have to try and make it seem to them he's one of them, and that's very risky business, especially for those who supported him and thought 'progressive' was his middle name. It's not and that's very clear now. So many at Huffpost were bitching that Hillary Clinton was the one you couldn't trust, that she was right of center--too far right--to support and now I see Obama is someone I can't trust to uphold progressive values. if he becomes president I think he'll pick right-of-center supreme court judges and that's just not good enough. In fact, it stinks. his FISA decision was clearly a slap in the face to many who support him. A lot of us will stay home elction day. I want change--REAL CHANGE--and we won't get that from Obama.

Obama refused to commit to bringing all the troops home from Iraq by 2013. Why aren't progressives pushing him to change his mind so that this war really ends and way before 2013? We want it over with and while Obama talks about ending the war, he never says when he will do it. Certainly not by even 2013. It's pathetic. posted 06/29/2008 at 15:29:04

Burton 'outted' Speke though in the sense of proving that Speke did not find the root of the Zambezi river or Nile--I forget which one. Speke was so humiliated, he commited suicide. Burton was not the nices t of people either, something he has in commonm with Everett obviously so I could see why Everett wants to make a documentary about him. After Burton died, his wife burned most of of letters etc. posted 06/09/2008 at 16:46:07

Let's Give Hillary Her Props

" ... begin to put behind us the legacy of slavery on which this country was built by electing the first African American President."

This is no reason to vote for Obama. Issues are the reason and the issues affecting Americans daily like the economy, high gas prices, health care and the war in Iraq (which he won't end. Sure he'll pull so-called combat troops out and leave behind a residual troops and call them something else. We're there to stay and there's going to be more than a slight case of shock to Obama supporters when Americans are still dying there in 2013 if Obama is elected. Better than then 100 years of war from McCain but at least be honest about t.) posted 06/07/2008 at 19:05:43

FAQ: The Vice Presidency

I won't vote if Obama picks a southern redneck like Webb as his VP choice. Richardson is a good man but a black man and an hispanic is a no-win. Wesley Clark would be a good choice or even Hillary Clinton, although a black man and a woman might be a bad idea and these things have to be taken into consideration if Obama wants to win. Neither Sam Nunn either or Warner. Both are too conservative on social issues. I don't know if Richardson has a law degree but I'd like to see either him or Hillary on the supreme court. Hell, why not Barney Frank as a supreme court judge. THAT would be amazing! It would be more amazing if Frank was Obama's VP choice but that won't happen for obvious reasons. Some day though. posted 06/07/2008 at 19:14:26

Hillary Clinton Running For The Vice Presidency

Hillary then has about as much experience and background to be on the Supreme Court as Obama has to be president of the U.S. The fact is years have gone by since Hillary was in law school. She's much smarter now then she was then and would make a great Supreme Court justice. All the issues that dems supposedly care about e.g., abortion rights, Gay rights, the environment etc would be in good hands in her care if she sat on the supreme court so all this bitching about her as unqualified is mean-spirited and won't get Obama any support from those he needs the most now--Clinton supporters. posted 06/05/2008 at 11:05:53
The GOP doesn't have enough votes with the base to win. An Obama/Hillary ticket would seal the dems win if only supporters on both sides would grow up and support it. posted 06/05/2008 at 10:58:23
If you don't want Hillary as VP, then you don't want Obama as president because he can't win without her as his VP choice. Anyone who runs for the presidency thinks it's owed to them as well so all this bullshit about Hillary as the only one thinking that spot was hers by right is wrong. The presidency is the ultimate ego job. Any pol with chutzpah enough to run for it must have an ego the size of Mount Rushmore. I wouldn't wish that job on anyone. You age terribly fast within the first few years and the pressures are enormous so it takes someone with a Rushmore size ego to think he or she could handle it and come out physically and mentally unfazed. So if Hillary gets the VP nod from Obama, continue to be as juvenile politically as you've shown in your post and stay home election day or vote for McCain and cut your nose to spite your face. posted 06/05/2008 at 10:55:12
Cut the crap. If you think Obama is going to end this war and bring ALL the troops home, you're delusional. Remember, he woudn't commit to bringing all the troops home by even 2013 and neither did Hillary. We're there for the long haul. Of course those of you who believe anything Obama says will continue to make excuses for him if he wins the presidency and show no surprise when Americans--those Americans he leaves behind in Iraq--continue to die day after day there, so grow up. Bill Clinton also gave us a fantasy world where Gays would have equal rights and not get discriminated against in the military and look what happened then. Obama promises us the same thing (of course, he's against Gay marriage though). He promises the heavens to open up and God's hand to reach out and touch us every morning every but that's Diana Ross isn't it? There's not going to be any Shangri-La. posted 06/05/2008 at 10:47:23
"Hillary's approach violates the protocol of avoiding overt appeals normally associated with the vice presidential selection process."

My my! You'd think Hillary was commitng arson. So her appeal is overt. We want change don't we? All this prior bullshit with other pols going for VP was just nonsense, a silly game more attuned to a night out at a bar with one patron trying to pick up another and playing maybe she/he will or maybe she/he won't.
As to the VP spot not worth more than spit, these last few decades have shown us that it's worth considerably more than that. If Hillary doesn't get the VP nod from Obama, he loses in November. I'll vote for him but a lot of Hillary supporters will either stay home or vote McCain. They're as assinine as a lot of Obama supporters who will do the same if Hillary gets the VP nod. Hillary Clintojn is NOT the enemy; John McCain and the GOP are. posted 06/05/2008 at 10:36:54

Jay Leno Apologizes For Gay Remarks

Then vote for McCain because he'll keep us in Iraq 100 years or more and that's about what will happen if we continue our involvement there. There's no way out of Iraq unless we just do it and leave. posted 04/02/2008 at 19:03:22
I never found Leno funny and was surprised when he got Carson's job. I suppose he did so because he never ruffled Carson's feathers, unlike Joan Rivers who was once hilarious and showed she wanted the job and may have pushed for it , upsetting Carson's midwestern sensibilities and NBC's sense of a woman's place is any other place but behind a talk show host's desk. posted 04/02/2008 at 14:07:35
For us to stay in Iraq and try and train the untrainable--the Iraqi military-is a hopeless cause. What happens after we leave Iraq is entirely up to the Iraqies. We can't stay there forever and seeking an agreeable consensus to work together peacefully between opposing factions in Iraq is just as much a hopeless cause. We're dealing with a society there that's bound to religious dogma that will never lead to democracy as we know it and God help us if we get what we wish for.
Will it get worse in Iraq if we leave? Probably, but what happens there is up to Iraq. Peace or chaos. We've had enough. posted 04/02/2008 at 14:00:27
MutualDisdian: All politicians are liars and dissemblers and it's often up to the electorate to pick the wheat from the all the chaff. Hard to do and so often we wind up with chaff, however if you really care about at least partly ending our involvement in Iraq (neither Obama or Clinton will end it totally; they keep us involved one way or the other there for years), don't stay home on election day. There's too much at stake, no matter who gets the democratic nomination, e.g., Supreme Court appointments, healthcare, the economy and who knows, maybe even Gay rights. posted 04/02/2008 at 13:49:10

Letter From A Soldier: Answers You Won't Want To Hear

Steam control is a fallacyand that's because like among New York City's streets where manhole covers abound, you plug up one holel where steam erupts and the pressure builds uo so badly on the pipes that it erupts from another manhole cover . That's what we're trying to do in Iraq and in doing so only causing varous eruptions throughout the country. Better to leave and save American lives and let the Iraqies vent it full steam ahead if they must. Iraq will never be our friends anyway and democracy there a fantasy. Iraq can live in peace or they can murder each other which is what they seem to do best. Nothing we do will help them. We should leave. posted 04/02/2008 at 01:01:48

Jesus for President, a Review for Atheists -- Part 2: God's Story

(Continued)
Exley says, "One of my biggest surprises in getting to know Bible believin' Christians is that they are able to keep their eyes wide open while diving into the ancient texts of the Bible head first." Ain't that the truth and ain't that the problem. They view this world through an ancient text that's been censored to empower popes and kings throughout history. Ask youself then just who was being worshiped after all?

For me there's no supernatural being, nothing that looks over us nor away from us and no devil with horns and a tail who goes boo and makes bad things happen to humanity who is born, not rotten and of sin, but innocent and beautiful and who has to be taught to do bad things. That doesn't mean thatthere isn't some wider experience we're part of; there is. it's a universe that exists, knowing and unknowing, everchanging and unchanging and the biggest question mark we face. posted 04/02/2008 at 00:24:49
Periodic redistribution of the means of making a living is in human's DNA and is known to anthropologists? Nonsense. What anthropologists? Reputable anthrolologists, denigrate the idea of genetic memory. There's no proof of it. That only exists in fictional page-turners.

"How in the world do modern Christians who believe in a "kind, unchanging and all-powerful god" think they can answer that?
The answer -- sort of -- is that they don't. "It's a mystery!" they say ... "

That's a convenient way of explaining away anything. It's denial, not wanting to face the larger question as to whether a supernatural being exists. It's too frightening for most people to accept so they shrug off God's ways as mystery and turn to their loving God after the fact when a loved one isn't saved from some terrible event. 9/11. Where was God? It's a mystery. Nice.

As to the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve lived in ignorant bliss, surrounded by a world that was perfect until a woman ruined it all. Most Christians blame the woman in the Garden of Eden for the Fall and there's the rub. They take a moment in time and for centuries individuals and groups suffer from it, from women to Gays and African-Americans etc. posted 04/02/2008 at 00:24:27

British Sex Scandal: The Obvious Hillary Connection

There's nothing elitist about majoring in history and english. Not only do we need teachers knowledgable about these subjects but most young people today don't even know how to write. They're so used to short quips on the net that barely resemble sentences and using the jargon of the young, which isn't exactly something you can put into a term paper on the Civil War for example. Maybe we won't get into messes like Iraq in the future either if more kids learned their history too.

Ageism and John McCain: A Personal View

Age DOES contribute to John McCain's irrational nbeliefs about victory in Iraq. Some people grow old and have learned from the past. McCain is old and hasn't learned a thing. He's frozen in a time warp of Vietnam where glorious and illustrious men also fought a war that should never have been fought but not having learned anything from Vietnam, McCain prides himself as a warrior still looking for a war he can win--at America's expense. So, ageism does come into play in his case. posted 03/31/2008 at 18:19:30

Chelsea Clinton Asked About Monica Lewinsky Again, Watch Video

The more these questions are asked, the more it's going to hurt Obama, regardless if the whoever asks the question is an Obama supporter or a republican plant. posted 03/31/2008 at 21:02:34
Exactly what questions do you think should be asked? Did Hillary know of the affair early on? Did she argue and fight with Bill? Did she ever consider leaving him and seeking a divorce? Did she ever confront Monica Lewinsky? How did Chelsea feel about the affair? DId she ever speak to her father about it? Etc etc etc. All these questions are extremely personal and no one's business and should never interfere in a political campaign. It wasn't Hillary who had the affair either but the way some of you at HuffPost talk (and say questions should be asked without mentioning what questions should be asked), you'd think Hillary broke her marriage vows. And I support Obama. posted 03/31/2008 at 18:11:03
The public certainly has the right to ask any question they want. When they ask Cheslea about her father's affair with Monica, it's up to the person who asks the question whether he or she wants to look like an idiot. Asking a son or daughter about their parent's sexual affair is not only hurtful but mean-spirited and really low. posted 03/31/2008 at 18:05:55
Bill Clinton is not running for president; Hillary is, Even though I don't support her, you should know the difference. posted 03/31/2008 at 18:01:59
I don't support Hillary; I support Obama but Chelsea is absolutely right. These questions stem from the assumption that somehow Hillary Clinton had something to do with her husband having sex with Monica Lewinsky. It's unfair to ask these questions and only desires to blacken Hillary's name in regard to the affair. There's plenty of political issues Hillary can be called on so this type of cheap tactic isn't called for at all. posted 03/31/2008 at 17:58:50
