Conyers On Rove: "We'll Hold Him In Contempt"

Great idea - in theory. But please remember: a law is only as good as the enforcement behind it. Can we really count on this particular Congress to enforce the Constitution, considering the bang-up job they have(n't) done so far? posted 05/16/2008 at 06:13:59

Sex And The American Mom: 1 In 3 Report Getting Action On The Side

I've always believed that the number one cause of divorce is... marriage. Seriously, though, I've seen far too many people rush into relationships for looks, money, sex, loneliness - rarely out of love.

For myself, it seems the only women I can attract are either golddiggers or head cases. Also, even though there are plenty of decent guys around, most women seem attracted to jerks. My guess: it's what they see in the media, and they don't want to "miss out".

It seems to me that a lot of women are brought to date for looks, marry for money, and then cheat for everything else. For the record, I don't hate women, in fact, I seem to get along better with women than I do with men. But, as one poster noted earlier, getting told you're a "nice guy" is usually the death knell for a relationship. posted 05/16/2008 at 14:16:27

Madonna Makes Out With Girl On Stage (PHOTOS)

Once again, proof that Bad Taste still sells - which, sadly, has been true for the past 30 years.

This is why I miss progressive rock. posted 05/08/2008 at 07:40:15
Oh, look. Another Madonna publicity stunt. Yaaaaaaaaaaawn.

You know, there IS a point at which she ceases to be shocking. Now, it's just sad. posted 05/07/2008 at 20:56:42

The Pro Teen Sex and Unwanted Pregnancy Movement

Well, as I keep telling people, there's a big difference between what SHOULD happen and what WILL happen. Of course parents SHOULD be the child's moral guide - but many parents AREN'T. Can we realistically count on all parents to do their job? And if they don't, then what happens to their children who simply don't know any better?

As I've said before, as long as we insist on making such a big deal about sex, we will always have problems with it. We Americans need to desperately come to terms with our sexuality. If it doesn't begin in the home, it will have to begin in the schools. As long as we insist on treating it like Forbidden Fruit, the young and curious will keep reaching for it. posted 05/07/2008 at 21:52:58

What John McCain Told Me, and What it Says About How Far He's Fallen

On the other hand, nobody seriously thought the NY Giants would win the Super Bowl over the heavily favored New England Patriots.

After what Hillary Clinton pulled - and got away with! - in Pennsylvania, she could still slime her way to the nomination. posted 05/06/2008 at 09:38:58

Polyamory: The New Monogamy?

I'm lucky if I can get ONE sexual partner, let alone many! Am I the exception, here?

In my experience, women tend to use sex as a weapon - usually by withholding it until she gets her way. Ironically, as a man, I've never really gotten that much pleasure from sex - usually, it's just to get relief. (Of course, the fact that my [now ex-]girlfriends tended to just lay there through the whole thing might have something to do with it, too.)

I don't think I could handle polyamory - hanging onto one girlfriend is hard enough, let alone trying to please multiple women. posted 05/05/2008 at 06:50:02

Miley Cyrus Bare In Vanity Fair: Tells Fans She's "Embarrassed"

Sigh.

I get the feeling that most Americans have never been outside the United States - not even to Canada, let alone Europe. This is NOTHING! (In fact, I understand that in many European countries, the "age of consent" IS 15.)

And yet, for all our puerile attitudes, the US is STILL the western world's most sexually active country. Why? Because we insist on blowing everything out of proportion!

Furthermore, I can never understand this "let kids be kids" attitude in this country. To me, it's just another way of saying "let's keep the kids tied to the apron strings until they're 40."

America: let the children grow up. (And grow up yourselves, while you're at it.) posted 04/28/2008 at 07:14:06

Arianna Discusses The Right Wing's "Lunatic Fringe" On ABC's 20/20

Let me be brutally honest about what I saw in those clips.

I get the impression that Ms. Huffington went into that interview thinking she was going to discuss The Huffington Post, its readership and her latest book. Mr. Stossel, on the other hand, wanted to play "Gotcha!"

It's obvious to me that Ms. Huffington was unprepared for the questions Mr. Stossel asked, as her answers DID come across as rather lame. Sorry to say that, but that's my impression. (Of course, that may also be due to the hatchet job ABC did on editing her replies.)

The moral of the story here is: always, always, ALWAYS assume any pre-taped interview with the MSM is going to be a hatchet job, and they will always, always, ALWAYS ambush you with "Gotcha!"-type questions, then edit your replies to make you look bad. Be prepared for this tactic. Be sure to bring a volume of notes or better yet, a laptop with internet access. It's unfair for him to expect you to know every government statistic right off the top of your head.

And that's just my take. posted 04/27/2008 at 07:46:00

End It Now

I wouldn't count out Senator Clinton THAT quickly. Granted, many of us DON'T want her to win, but to say that she CAN'T or WON'T win is wishful thinking. We can't just brush off Pennsylvania as a fluke.

Personally, I think Senator Clinton has clearly discovered a tactic that works (at least in Pennsylvania), and will probably tailor it for the other states. She will make gains, but whether she can surpass Senator Obama remains to be seen.

I think it's going to be very close, and very messy. posted 04/27/2008 at 08:18:04

Pennsylvania Primary: Liveblogging the Results

You keep forgetting - the "popular vote" doesn't seem to mean much anymore.

White Men

"white men cannot be relied on, as all of us know who have spent a lifetime dating them."

No, Nora, all that proves is that you have no taste in men.

There are plenty of decent guys out there, it's just that (it seems to me, anyways) women actually PREFER the jerks. Why won't women give nice guys a chance? Is it because the jerks represent POWER?

In the end, isn't that what it's really all about? Even Henry Kissinger once said, "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac." posted 04/21/2008 at 07:30:11

Far More Than "Bitter": Message from a Small Town Pennsylvanian

I hate to say this. I really do.

In the end, the Democrats have only themselves to blame. For the longest time, Democrats have derided the people of Small Town America as a bunch of hicks, crackers, rednecks, what-have-you. Granted, Democrats have done a lot of good for the inner-city, their traditional base. But they've done it at the expense of those outside the city. After all, they're WHITE, and white people are supposedly all affluent, right? (Then Democrats wonder why they get branded "elitist.")

Republicans haven't done much better. Oh, sure, they've tossed Middle America a few crumbs, and told them what they wanted to hear - just enough to keep them conservative and loyal to the Republican Party, but not really enough to help. But you have to admit: it's more than the Democrats have done.

I am so glad Senator Obama has (finally!) spoken to this issue. He may have worded it poorly, but he's the first Democrat (as far as I know) who has finally recognized the problems of the small towns. Now, whether or not he DOES anything remains to be seen. posted 04/20/2008 at 07:23:27

Obama: Hillary, McCain Using "Very Same Words" Against Me

Yes, ladies & gentlemen - all three candidates have their faults - and all of them have some real whoppers.

So, let us keep in mind that, once again, we are voting for the lesser of evils.

With all his faults (and most of them only through association), Barack Obama is still the lesser of the three evils. posted 04/04/2008 at 18:44:46

Less Monogamy, More Fun

I used to have a girlfriend who didn't believe in monogamy, either.

She gave me crabs, twice. (Don't worry, they - and her - are long gone.)

I hope this lady is at least using some kind of protection, or is at least sure her "friends" are clean. posted 04/05/2008 at 08:50:28

My Argument With God

In my experience, a lot of people tend to be "Sunday Christians" - they go to church on Sunday so they can be "forgiven", then go out and raise hell for the rest of the week.

By "So?", Cheney means, "So what are they going to do about it?"

This country is being run by bullies, and all we can do is wait them out. The Roman Empire fell, the British Empire fell, even the Soviet Empire fell. Eventually, the Bush/Cheney Empire must fall. Unfortunately, it will take the rest of us with it.

HE'S BACK: Bill Clinton's Campaign Remarks

I don't understand the Clintons.

I thought they were loved, admired and respected around the world. Why did they throw away all that good will just to put Hillary in the White House? Hillary, I can understand - she's always been ambitious.

But BILL?? Why would he sabotage his OWN image like this? Is Hillary lording the Lewinsky affair over him?

I don't get them. posted 03/22/2008 at 20:23:43
