Bio
A native Michigander, I am currently at the University of Michigan, where my interests are in aquatic ecology, entomology, and environmental science. Previous studies also included international relations, history and socioeconomics. My political views are what I describe as rationalist-liberal: sustainable individual happiness can only be attained in relationship to others, and only when the needs of others are also met can stable and peaceful systems of social reciprocity thrive in society. Systems of reciprocity interface with the environment, which changes over time, form the basis of society. From the top down, a caring and active representative government, which works to redress the needs of citizens, is necessary to correct inequalities and exploitation by groups over others, which in turn provides a more stable, free social environment. From the bottom up, individual rights and freedoms of expression are necessary for purposeful communication of needs, providing the necessary freedom for personal happiness and the desire for social reciprocity, participation in our society and government, and check upon authoritarian government and usurpation of power by the empowered few.
