I am a lifelong Tennessean and can trace my interest in politics and current events back to First grade, when JFK was running for president. At the Catholic school I attended, there was much excitement about the possibility of a Catholic being elected to the highest office in the land. Reading lessons included articles about the campaign, we made signs and buttons, and held our own election that November of 1960. I've had a passion for politics ever since.

I am pro-choice. I believe that every citizen of this country should be granted the right to marry whom they choose. I believe in the right to bear arms but, I don't believe the laws which determine who can own a gun and what type of guns may be owned are stringent enough. That said, the only "gun" in our house is a BB gun, used to scare squirrels away from our birdfeeders.

I think the death penalty is appropriate in some cases. However, I think it should be limited to cases where there is some kind of direct evidence. Circumstantial evidence has been used to send far too many people to death row. I also believe that our justice system, as "great" as some may believe it is, needs a great deal of work. As it stands now, our jury system is weighted too heavily on the side of the prosecution. Instead of "innocent until proven guilty", it too often takes only an indictment to convince a jury of guilt. If a defendant is poor, a member of a monority, or mentally ill, Lady Justice leans even farther toward the prosecuters.
