Life long liberal, so not always a Democrat, as many times they are nothing but Republican lite. Fan of Ted Kennedy, & with the loss of Lion, I'm drifting towards Bernie Sanders.
Believer that other than health, our liberty is the most important aspect of being a human being. The traits that make us human are compassion and selflessness.
I am a believer of a higher purpose. That our lives or essence continue after our deaths. However, I'm a non believer in organized religion of any type. Especially those that are exclusionary of people who live good lives, but don't follow that particular religion.
I would hope the world and it's citizens understand we don't choose which country we are born into. That Nationalism is just another form of religion or a means for segregation.
Those of us fortunate to live in a prosperous country like ours, should share our good fortune with those less fortunate. Rather than make empty remarks like "they can just pull themselves up from their bootstraps & better themselves". I know plenty of people who work harder than I ever will, yet live in poverty, through no fault of their own other than an accident of birth.
Famine, lack of potable water, basic sanitation are causes those of us with good fortune i.e. those of us who are not facing those issues, need to donate our time and money to eradicate. For there is no us v. them.
