South Texas begins cleanup after Hurricane Dolly

That's got to be the dumbest statement made by any human being on the planet today. Too much warning is bad? Just to provide a newsflash: nobody knows what a hurricane-rainstorm-whatever is going to do until it does it. posted 07/24/2008 at 12:38:00

Hurricane Dolly Hits Texas Coast

This is just so inconvenient. I had plans to sit in the sun by the pool today. posted 07/23/2008 at 14:15:51

U.S. Policy Reversal on Iran

As much as I think President Bush is a disaster, this is a good move. It sure feels weird to write something like this. Talking works better than not talking. That's how problems are fixed. posted 07/16/2008 at 14:43:09

A Fist-Bump for the New Yorker

Obama made a mistake making a big deal about this. They should have just said "The American people know satire when they see it and this is a wonderful slam at the fear mongers that live on the other side of the street." Then we are done with it. That said, we all know the folks on the other side are going to milk this to adnauseum. And we're pretty close to that right now on Day One. posted 07/14/2008 at 16:49:57

Tim Russert Dies At Age 58

I knew him. I worked with him on a few projects outside of NBC and he was the definition of being a pro. His questions were short and to the point. That fact alone made him a standout from all the others asking questions for a living. posted 06/13/2008 at 16:33:47

Radio Audience Drops 14%, College Graduates Tuning Out 8 Times Faster Than Nongrads

I worked in the business. Here are a pair of reasons why it is what it is:

(1) Corporate Takeover: You can be in town A and listen to the local radio and then drive to Tow B and you'll hear the same programs because local radio has no more local content.

(2) Commercial load: Wouldnt it make sense to double the price of a 60 second commercial and then run FEWER commercials in a break? By the time all the commercials are over, I've forgotten what I was listening to--that presumes I would even stay with the station in the first place when the commercials begin.

This is all radio's doing. The argument about new technology and delivery systems is a sham--if a good program was available, people would listen. This ain't that hard to do. posted 06/09/2008 at 11:14:16
