Afgail was a lifelong liberal Democrat. Her painful disappointment in Obama has prompted her to quit the Democratic party and she will henceforth vote as an independent. She had been an activist in party politics, local government and a volunteer in civic and environmental organizations. Upon graduation from college she joined the League of Women Voters. She was elected to the City Council and was president of the County Board of Supervisors, which is equivalent to County Commissioner in other parts of the country. When not writing political commentary, she is an artist.
