It is obvious that some broadcasters, or "pundits" have an extensive knowledge of world and American history- like Tom Borkaw, for instance. And he appears to be unbiased. There are others, like most of those on Fox, for example, who just have big mouths and a forum. That said, there are those actors who are well-informed and others who are not- the former are as well-qualified to speak out and make a point as, in fact, the rest of us. Neil Diamond is a great songwriter, as evidenced by his undeniable success. To say otherwise is simply ignorance. Star Trek was great for many reasons- the stories, concept, characters, of course- but also the irreplaceable cast. The Superman movies with Christopher Reeve were great, of course- but to me, George Reeves is still Superman. Sean Connery IS James Bond- the rest are merely a mix of good and bad films. We know who Kirk and Spock are. New cast? Could be interesting- though if they got Nimoy, they should've gotten, and resurrected Shatner as Kirk. Generations was the worst Star Trek movie ever made- Shatner should never have allowed them to kill Kirk at all, let alone with such a stupid, underwhelmingly dramatic plotline.
Otherwise, they should've been more inventive and gone yet another 100 years or so with an entirely new cast of characters, so that the audience could experience the joy of discovery more than the agony or ecstasy of comparison. Star Trek isn't Star Wars. It's not supposed to be. posted 05/04/2008 at 18:09:25
I am totally mystified how you can say that- different strokes for different folks. Brooke moved me more than anyone else with her singing- I loved her wit, her voice could connect with a song, and the right listeners (Carly Simon, Andrew LLoyd Weber, me..).
The saddest song, and moment of the season is Brooke's goodbye. I have little to no interest left in the show from here on. As a musician, I am exhausted and frustrated that I was unable to fully grasp that this wasn't really a talent show- but a popularity contest. "THANK GOD," she says, that Brooke was booted. How nice. How weird. How wrong. posted 05/01/2008 at 03:02:06
If that had been record tracks instead of a TV competition, I'd buy Brooke's and I'd buy David Cook's. DA annoys me, I can't stand his voice, and Jason should go. His worst yet. Carly went because she was extremely over-rated, soulless, and obnoxious. posted 04/30/2008 at 13:36:05
Well, Carly is right on the mark. She, too would've been voted off the show, considering the mentality, taste, and maturity of the "voters." The level of abuse and animosity on display here is equally as shocking to me as is the musical ignorance. I feel sick to my stomach that Brooke is leaving- but I'm looking forward to her first album. I'll skip the Idol tour, though. posted 04/30/2008 at 23:31:51
Unlike most fans (and judges) of the show, Carly Simon knows musical, and I agree with her totally. Interesting how all the mentors have commented on how they were looking forward to hearing Brooke sing now that she had apparently connected with the song and was able to put it across. To truly appreciate her, you have to download one of her studio recordings from iTunes. It seems she can be a great recording artist, whereas Syeesha id a really good performer who can't sing. posted 04/30/2008 at 13:40:26
It's sexual exploitation, and I'm surprised her parents in particular would allow this. Poor taste, her handlers and the magazine too share the guilt. If she were not a celebrity and this was merely an art shoot, fine- but what does this suggest to all her young fans? No wonder she herself has already been photographed in provocative positions. Maybe she's got a deal with Dateline NBC to rev up some perverts for their next installment. posted 04/27/2008 at 12:54:01
I'm for Obama, but the details are important regarding Hillary's statement: she said it must be said as a deterrent. Ah, yes, the Jesus Card. Now we must decide who to diss next: her, the competition, or the show itself. Or "those Americans" or "those Christians."
I have the sneaky suspicion that Carly won't be back because she simply had less people call on her behalf than the others. No one calls to vote someone off- you vote for "your favorite."
The Red Sea did not part when Carly sang. Of the remaining candidates, the audience didn't "like her best." That's all. No conspiracy- we don't need an investigative commission to get to the bottom of this. posted 04/25/2008 at 21:28:16

Considering the state of popular music today, I'm not surprised by idiotic opinions. Carly, quite simply, has a big mouth and no soul. Syeesha is no Melinda (last season)- her performance was charming but her voice is thin, pitchy, and grating. Jason needs to detox with some coffee. The two Davids, I must admit- are talented and "the ones to beat." However, like ALW, I'm a big fan of Brooke's- check out her studio recordings on iTunes, and ignore the stumble (which is not cool at this stage of the competition): she has the most affecting, soulful voice and doesn't need gimmicks, theatrics, or belting to move you (me).
Regarding the tattoos- I don't care how many people have them or where- they are painful to look at, demeaning to the natural artistry of the human body. Self-mutilation, a tacky, decadent expression of phony hipness that in actuality, for most people, is actually a form of conformity. K-Mart chic. posted 04/24/2008 at 11:49:00
I'm closer in age to Webber than little David. Like me, he saw the passion in Brooke's voice, and her talent. Carly's performance was incredibly over-rated. Compare her to Leona Lewis and you'll see what's missing. I personally thought Castro was worse than Syeesha, who still can't sing but put on a nice little show. There are reason's why people have fans. After all, without them, how can you sell anything? I'm glad Brooke had enough (wise) fans to keep her in there another week at least. Neil Diamond should be very interesting- definitely preferable to ALW and Mariah Carey. Question is- will they be doing Neil the Rocker or Vegas Neil? posted 04/24/2008 at 02:06:05
Aha, so the bimbo has an ever-growing collection of her own. Sorry, but I find the behavior, this act of self-mutilation (no matter how cute or pretty your birdies, hearts, and flowers are) absolutely idiotic and disgusting. I'll be happy not to see Carly's arm or her husband's face on my TV screen. They may as well be burn victims or lepers. Imagine Michelangelo, da Vinci, even Reubens' reaction to this asinine defacing. The Mona Lisa with a nose ring and an oh-so-cute tat on her neck. I of all people resent conformity, or as Dylan sang, "Everybody wants you to be just like them." I don't want you to see like me, feel like me, be like me. Shikeze and Carly dazzled with joyous performances- vocally (just listen) not so hot. Cook did hit that one note that surprised me and, in fact, blew my mind. Young David was very good, but who cares? Brooke had been complimented the first time she asked to start over, now she's trashed. Listen to her studio version of this song as well as last week's ("Hero") and tell me she can't sing or doesn't sound fantastic on record. She needs a good coach and the rifht material. Jason should go- one-dimensionally stoned. posted 04/23/2008 at 14:59:16
Brooke has a voice with the potential to stand out and sell albums. When she goes, I go. Actually, I thought Syeesha and Carly are the most annoying, and should be next. The two Davids are over-rated. A sad commentary on the state of American popular music- particularly the inexplicable popularity of Mariah Carey. Talk about "one-trick pony"- she doesn't sing or write songs- she does gymnastics with her vocal chords and convinces people it's music. Not so... posted 04/17/2008 at 12:33:04

Listening to Mariah was as much torture as listening to the others trying to sing her "songs." I'll give Cook credit for trying to add some substance, and Brooke for trying to find a melody. I never tire of her voice. Carly has no soul, also equates vocal gymnastics with singing- no, she's not in Carey or Anne Wilson's league as a gymnast. But she's almost as obnoxious as Celine- and the arm hurts the eyes even more than the shrill, shallow screeching does the ears. posted 04/17/2008 at 23:47:05

"Imagine no religion" is apparently the most frightening lyric (to some) Lennon ever wrote. The wimps at Idol skipped that verse. However, as Lennon used to point out- he wasn't saying he was against religion, or especially God- in fact, there is no line "Imagine there's no God." He was saying- "Imagine."
