Bio
Teacher of environmental biology since the course started in 1970; now in 52nd year of teaching. Have served on a city council and a city planning commission. Long time environmental activist: one of 15 key citizens who helped Upper Newport Bay become Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve instead of a boat harbor. This is what got me into local politics. I also spent five years representing the Izaac Walton League of America (San Jacinto Mountain chapter) in attempting to get the national IWLA to endorse the California Desert Protection Act. (Mainly, I helped keep them neutral, instead of being against it.) I've served on three citizen committees involved in the effort to properly preserve yet still use the Puente-Chino Hills Wildlife Corridor, a thirty-one mile long mostly undeveloped corridor totally surrounded by cities. The continuing effort is to get the natural lands into public ownership.

I was also the chairperson of the first teacher-strike at a community college (Rio Hondo College) in California history.
